"This. Cave. Sucks." Clover was bundled up in a thick jacket and still felt the chill permeating through the layers. Psyduck seemed unbothered. Was it too self-absorbed to realize its environment was dangerous? Was it simply above such concerns? Clover had spent a lot of time with the Psyduck but still had more questions than answers. It was the most difficult psychic pokemon for gauging intelligence, she swore.

"It got me pretty good with its claw." But, hey, it'd been subdued! A victory, even if it wasn't seamless. "It put up a lotta fight, just like the Shard in the Desert [Regieleki]. Mr. Howard's Stakataka team kept us from, like, getting electrocuted." Seeing it up close had only inspired her further to pursue the Guardians to protect Hoenn after all of the unnatural disasters that plagued it. howard slayte had protected them from the Ultra Desert threat, but now she needed to do everything in her power to protect themselves in the face of another Guardian. Fangs was the logical next target.[break][break]

They shook their head to clear the thought. "In any case, I'm glad it's your problem." She crossed her arms, assessing him openly. "I know you've already been brought into the fold-" emphasized with wiggling fingers, "by a Hoyeon, but now that I've met you, I approve of you for my cousin." Cousin being used loosely, of course. "You're welcome in my sect, too, if you find yourself in Fallarbor."

I bet he'll come around." Clover jabbed a thumb at their chest for emphasis. Clover was raised to communicate through food, but they also had a penchant for burning things, so they needed to brush up on some skills before trying to out-do Tempest. [break][break]

Clover's jaw drops at the shadow display, the way it curls around him so naturally despite its supernatural nature. Clover can't decide if the miasma has a mind of its own or if it's more of an extension of Cillian's will, but it's badass all the same. "Damn, can you teach me to do that?" They look between the Flygon and its new master with renewed inspiration, unaware of how impossible the ask is. [break][break]

"It might be more accurate to say it found me. I was leaving the Safari Zone when it struck. Took Archen a lotta effort to subdue it." Clover had thought the shadows were some secret move they'd never seen before, but when it had fainted, it was still surrounded by the odd effect.

Clover feels very lucky as Kit explains the acid Victreebel can generate. They had little interest in experiencing it firsthand, and now they know to keep their distance when they use Victreebel in a fight. "Toxins can be cool, but I got nailed by a Qwilfish when I was younger." Her nose scrunched up. "Shit hurt." [break][break]

Archen scurried ahead of them in the path to investigate an Obstagoon, though he had to dance around it as the larger pokemon struck out with a cross chop. Trusting Archen to handle himself, she turned her full attention to her partner. "I think those guardians are the only ones that can really protect Hoenn. Like, they're all connected to the environment and know things we don't and, like, they've been largely absent until recently. I think they change things."[break][break]

They were tools that served Earth Mother, and Clover trusted that their power could fix the destruction facing Hoenn, especially that that was caused by the League government's careless expansion and development. "I want to find Fang. Er, Regidrago, I think you guys call it. Fang's the most unusual of them, and I think it's very unexpected that way. Summoning the Guardians, though, that's the hard part. They're, uh, not very reactive." Or maybe it was more accurate to say they were just slow to react.

Quick attack knocked Psyduck on her side. Instinctively, Clover pulled a pokeball to release Oricorio. "Tie him up," Clover ordered. Oricorio interpreted this to mean hurricane. The winds forced Treecko into a vortex it couldn't manage to escape from. Without a vine attack to help correct its path, the Treecko grew dizzy and fainted by the time the hurricane finished. "If it works, it works. But I meant more, his mentality, y'know?" Oricorio gave him a look. "Okay, yeah, I'll be more direct next time."

Clover laughed at Lam's commentary. "Yeah," he said as he wrangled Archen into submission, "he's kind of a pain in the a- uh, he's just trouble." Most adults didn't care for cussing and Clover looked young than they were, so they did their best to quit the habit. That, and their mom never let them hear the end of it for using such language, so his ears almost rang pre-emptively when he swore. [break][break]

"But he's a fossil which makes him automatically awesome, so, I can't really bring myself to part with him." Archen cawed indignantly, and Clover finally released Archen to fly up out of reach. "I need to start thinking about battle strategies since stuff is so crazy now. But it's hard to not just carry the pokemon I like." He couldn't battle with a set of Oricorios, now could he?

The Beldum came out of nowhere and struck Psyduck with a zen headbutt. Psyduck smarted, but otherwise looked unaffected. Mostly confused, actually. With its close proximity, Psyduck followed with a cross chop to knock the metal pokemon into the earth. It got lodged into the muddy terrain and struggled to get out. "We'll take our wins where we can get 'em, yeah?" Psyduck said nothing. Clover tossed a pokeball.

Clover turned and brightened at the sight of the familiar Lam. He waved, excited to see that Yuzu was here, too. "Gotta give the people what they want, y'know?" Their Oricorio gang were mastering turn-taking, up until Archen's jealous interruption. Clover grabbed her oldest companion and squeezed the bird into a loose wrestling hold to prohibit him from messing with the Oricorios. [break][break]

"Are you taking a break from, uh, gym-ing?" His Sensu Oricorio started stepping towards Lam, ever-curious.

Psyduck was shaping up to be a strong contender for her competitive team. She hadn't expected the aloof pokemon to pull her act together, but she was doing well in combat. High pressure situations were no problem for her. It was everything else that kinda fell apart. [break][break]

Carvannha leaped into the sky from the nearby river just to come plummeting back into its waters. Clover was pretty sure the swarm of them were trying to garner their attention to have a nice snack. "No. Thanks." Clover shared a look with Psyduck before continuing on the path. They had no interest in leaving with bite marks, thank you very much.

With three birds this time, the trio danced in sequence. It had been a losing battle to make her Oricorio copy each other, but now, giving them each a moment to shine before passing the baton was effective. All three of them desired the spotlight, but they'd gotten better at sharing it. She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear as her pom pom Oricorio started its dance. [break][break]

"Show me what you've got!" But Archen didn't like the attention the others were getting, and he squawked loudly to throw the Oricorio off her rhythm.

It was a good question. "I don't think I am," Clover said with utterly no confidence. "No time like the present, yeah?" Digging in with wild abandon, Clover sampled more than just what Lisette had and made it through almost the entire sampler before the uncomfortable pressure set in. Hoyeon people were happy to feast, but normally Clover was much more restrained. The difference was that so much of this food was exotic to him. [break][break]

"The one with the leppa berries and caramel is so sweet but actually super good," he reviewed as he bathed in his gluttony. "Sweets are normally underwhelming but I would, like, commit crimes to have this one again." In a manner of thinking, he was committing crime for the treat, but... well, he'd do it again. [break][break]

A big, satisfied sigh left him. "Oof, I'm gonna be walking stiff to the drop-off point with all of this in my stomach. But! No regrets. You," they said while pointing at Lisette, "have the perfect sense of adventure. If you're getting up to nonsense, I wanna be there, too." A lot of the Rockets Clover worked with were very serious, but at least he knew there was one partner in crime who knew how to let loose a little bit.
