Psyduck was shaping up to be a strong contender for her competitive team. She hadn't expected the aloof pokemon to pull her act together, but she was doing well in combat. High pressure situations were no problem for her. It was everything else that kinda fell apart. [break][break]

Carvannha leaped into the sky from the nearby river just to come plummeting back into its waters. Clover was pretty sure the swarm of them were trying to garner their attention to have a nice snack. "No. Thanks." Clover shared a look with Psyduck before continuing on the path. They had no interest in leaving with bite marks, thank you very much.

With three birds this time, the trio danced in sequence. It had been a losing battle to make her Oricorio copy each other, but now, giving them each a moment to shine before passing the baton was effective. All three of them desired the spotlight, but they'd gotten better at sharing it. She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear as her pom pom Oricorio started its dance. [break][break]

"Show me what you've got!" But Archen didn't like the attention the others were getting, and he squawked loudly to throw the Oricorio off her rhythm.

It was a good question. "I don't think I am," Clover said with utterly no confidence. "No time like the present, yeah?" Digging in with wild abandon, Clover sampled more than just what Lisette had and made it through almost the entire sampler before the uncomfortable pressure set in. Hoyeon people were happy to feast, but normally Clover was much more restrained. The difference was that so much of this food was exotic to him. [break][break]

"The one with the leppa berries and caramel is so sweet but actually super good," he reviewed as he bathed in his gluttony. "Sweets are normally underwhelming but I would, like, commit crimes to have this one again." In a manner of thinking, he was committing crime for the treat, but... well, he'd do it again. [break][break]

A big, satisfied sigh left him. "Oof, I'm gonna be walking stiff to the drop-off point with all of this in my stomach. But! No regrets. You," they said while pointing at Lisette, "have the perfect sense of adventure. If you're getting up to nonsense, I wanna be there, too." A lot of the Rockets Clover worked with were very serious, but at least he knew there was one partner in crime who knew how to let loose a little bit.

Archen cried out as a curse struck him. "Arch!" Clover knew the move was dangerous, but they hadn't encountered it in person. Was this the technique that made it so that pokemon fainted when the user did? He couldn't sure. He sent Archen back into his capture capsule and sent out Psyduck instead. "Psy, hit him where it hurts!" Psyduck launched aqua tail at the Numel, pushing it back several feet. Then, Psyduck finished with a cross chop to faint it.

Suddenly, the field Clover stood in was flooded. They looked down to see a wave of water wash over their ankles, soaking their shoes. "Ugh." He looked around for the culprit... and the only thing he saw was the Mudkip. "This you, little dude?" The mudkip cried out angrily at him. "Well, be that way, then." They tossed Archen out to the field. "Get that punk, yeah?"[break][break]

Mudkip didn't stand a chance against Archen's tailwind, which sent the water type flying into a nearby tree. It was knocked into a daze, making it an easy catch.

Clover nodded to his first question, then again in sage understanding. "Gym stuff's like a full-time gig, yeah? I wouldn't wanna fight all day." Battles weren't that fun, though they liked finding new applications for what their pokemon could already do. Her oricorios were all following Yuzu, but she could see her sensu Oricorio getting frustrated because of how different her dance was compared to this new one. She switched up with a teetering dance, but she only got a few steps in before Clover recalled her into the pokeball. She'd seen that dance too many times to not recognize it immediately. [break][break]

"We'll have to work on social skills," she confessed with an easy going smile. "But hey, it'd be super cool to challenge your gym if I get my, uh, trainer stuff more together. You'll go easy on me, right?"

Clover's not one to accept charity or excessive generosity, but the moment Lisette says they could try everything, Clover bites his tongue only to keep from blurting out "I love you" in response. "Um, yes. Yes, a thousand times yes." They're seated in the stool in record time. With unrestrained glee, they pass on the good news to the cook who gets to preparing. Clover has to take a moment to keep from drooling. [break][break]

"This is the best job ever," Clover confesses. "I hate the night time stuff because it's usually, like, terrible. But a seamless drop-off and food stalls as far as the eye can see? I could do this again." A series of plates with paired dumplings, mochi, and several other dough-laden deserts find its way to the counter before them. Collectively, it seems to be arranged in order from most savory to most sweet. Clover grabs one on the sweeter end with chopsticks, something soft and purple.

She finished the last of her treat. Still, the sweet tooth demanded more. Maybe they'd hit up Mauville afterwards, or Lilycove. Both had good mall scenes and both had candy shoppes in each. But the Lilycove one was more inclined towards sour candies, and he was starting to feel a little interested in the little sour pinaps. [break][break]

They nearly stepped on a snoozing Torchic. Correcting himself, he dropped a pokeball and carried through the season. Coming this early was a good idea.
