Shuckle gummed an oran as the two walked the safari. Clover felt peckish after an expedition and not before, but Shuckle could nibble on berries any time of day. In fact, he was pretty sure he'd heard her at like 2AM. She'd gotten into his backpack. He'd barely woken to the sound of it before falling asleep again, so he supposed it was his fault for not stopping her. The shelled pokemon worked up an appetite for one with a famously slow metabolism. "Chew quieter," he whispered. They didn't want to spook any wild pokemon.

One moment, she's critiquing Shuckle. The next, the rock pokemon has been blown off the face of the earth with a high horsepower blur. "It's been an honor serving with you." Clover pairs the faux-stoic remark with a pantomime of taking a hat off his head and holding it to his chest. The sounds of a scuffle occur off-screen - or at least, away from Clover's eyesight. A moment later, Shuckle comes crawling back with a small scratch and a victorious expression. [break][break]

"Doing alright?" The Shuckle opened its mouth to reveal small blue-purple gunk which can only be the remains of an oran berry. Ah, so the healing it offers might have given Shuckle a leg-up in that fight. "Don't gloat," he chastises. Shuckle refuses, of course, and Clover resigns to searching the bushes for the fainted Cufant to catch.

Morning sun fell over them, an odd break from the overcast day. "You see where that's coming from?" Shuckle looked at Clover with a neutral expression. Right. [break][break]

A pidove made itself known, landing at Clover's feet and cocking its head curiously. "Hey, little fella." The pidove pecked at the grass. "You want a berry?" Shuckle's mouth fell open in betrayal, but Clover pulled a pecha out for the flying type. "You've had your fill," he asserted to his Shuckle. "Relax a sec." Pidove consumed the berry with the same ferociousness as Shuckle before chirping a pleased song.

Now that she thought about it, the zone was oddly deprived of berry plants. If she hadn't been supervising Shuckle so closely, she'd say the shelled pokemon had been eating them all. What could be consuming so many, though? They hadn't heard anything about skwovet sightings. Or munchlax. [break][break]

They turned a corner and saw the culprit: a lechonk. It had stuffed cheeks. Clover could see the outline of several berries protruding against its face. It couldn't even completely close its mouth. Currently, it was trying to fit another leppa. "I think we've got this one in the bag," she whispered to Shuckle. The lechonk was too busy to consider any predators like a trainer, so Clover lined up their aim and tossed a pokeball at the hungry pokemon.

They stumbled into the territory of a Turtonator. Clover flinched backwards as it turned on them aggressively. However, it produced a wide guard rather than a hostile assault. Clover threw her hands up in surrender and backed away, clicking her tongue so Shuckle would look at her and do the same. [break][break]

"Easy there," he offered as he moved back to the main path. Shuckle eyed the Turtonator as if looking for a fight, but the defending pokemon wouldn't give them one. Not unless they moved in on his territory further.

A dark pulse pushed Clover and Shuckle to stumble forward onto the ground. The surprise attack disoriented her, but Shuckle reacted faster, generating a sticky web at their assailant. Clover turned to see the ghost type with a mean, mocking grin. It launched a destiny bond on Shuckle, leaving the shelled pokemon to look at Clover with a clear question: what do I do? [break][break]

Well, Clover didn't want to lose Shuckle today. "I guess we have no choice." A ghost was joining the family now. She tossed a pokeball at the gastly and waited with bated breath for the pokeball to stop twitching.
