a land seemingly in ruin...

but even so, there must be some capable of answering distress calls from those who'd find themselves on the brink of imminent peril. and yet, that was the reason he'd been summoned here - to assist in various efforts to diffuse the said troubles before unimaginable threats were to reach exponentially catastrophic proportions. what was that old saying? 'all hands on deck?' at this rate, if the ongoing deterioration would persist beyond the rangers' control, then their hands would undoubtedly be hitting the deck by the time this madness would come to its conclusion.

here, with shallow waves grazing their feet...

in an attempt to join the relief efforts, silverio would summon the strength of two aquatic companions of his, instructing them to lend their in clearing hordes of scraps, litter, and other forms of debris that would surely threaten the livelihood of sea mauville's inhabitants. his husky golisopod in particular was tasked with carrying out loads that would otherwise be likely immovable by other means. frogadier was assigned to run about and collect any litter that may have come about as a result of impending chaos.

a means to open a path for ailing folk to seek refuge elsewhere...

of course, the paldean himself dove headfirst in the ever-growing mess. gloved hands swiftly moved to push fallen materials aside to lessen potential risks. all the while, his sapphire irises alternating between the task at hand and the captain he'd been designated to support in this operation, waves of concern flooding over his features. "do you need a hand with that, captain?" he would offer his hard-scaled insectoid for help with the heavy-lifting if needed.

at annalise's feet, her vaporeon's tail swishes impatiently. they need to get down to the next floor to clear out the flooding, but the whole reserve seems to want to crumple in on itself. the collapsed doorway to the stairwell makes it impossible for them to pass, but annalise has tried fruitlessly to create enough space for her and her water-type to fit into. [break][break]a voice from behind volunteers his help. she turns to look at her ranger partner first, then his golisopod. [break][break]"oh, yeah." she steps away, hiding scraped palms upon seeing the concern already on his face. "if you guys could just clear this spot out, that'd be amazing."[break][break]she tips her head, a motion for her vaporeon, and the water-type scampers out of their way.

accepting of his assistance, she was. good, because it may require a complete team effort in order for anyone, let alone themselves, to proceed and survive this debacle in one piece. although his movement would be hindered by the waters converged around his ankles, silverio steps cautiously towards the doorway to examine the broken structure, seeking an opening in the debris' buildup. a gloved hand graps one end of the structure, then a pull...no dice, no budging. locked in tight was the shattered remains.

it was determined that a great deal of muscle was require for this task, thus, he scoots back to clear himself from the impending falldown of the blockage that would be enforced by his bulky companion. he calls for the golisopod, signaling for it to take immediate action. unfazed by the waters, the insectoid samurai skips ahead of the pack to crash into the piled-on debris with a broad shoulder. a small budge. the bug leaps back, then rushes forward into the blockage a second time. cracks begin to form.

one more push...

and finally, down goes the rubble, wildly splashing over the insect as the wreckage sunk into the rising waters below. silverio then looks toward his trusted frogadier. "you go on ahead, pal - see if there's anything else that may get in the way, or if there's anyone or anything that may need help." swiftly, the bubbly frog pokémon zooms forth, down to the lower levels.

a couple of steps down..."looks like it's getting worse..."

"you got it."[break][break]and with new hands on the task, annalise shepherds herself and her vaporeon toward silverio and away from the collapsed debris. sea mauville is so fragile in its current state that she isn't sure what will happen once his golisopod starts messing with things. the ceiling could collapse on them, the floor could give way, or, if they're lucky, the debris could be cleared without any issue of note. [break][break]annalise winces each time the bug-type throws itself at the blockage, shoulders tense as things start to give way. one last rush, then the debris is broken apart. there's no ceremony, no sudden structural instability, just a cleared path through. the breath she didn't know she was holding slips between her teeth. [break][break]"thanks for your help!"[break][break]his frogadier goes on ahead at his command. they trail after, shoes sinking into standing water as they descend the stairs. her vaporeon absorbs water and spits it out of a fissure in the side of the sinking vessel. [break][break]"yep," she sighs out, water sloshing with each step. "i'm not sure we can salvage this place, but we're doing what we can to get the people and pokemon out, at least."

"sure, no problem."

he would admit that he was terribly uncertain of what was going to happen once his hulking insectoid started tampering with the shattered structures. in fact, one wrong move from the golisopod or anyone else may spell disaster not only for them, but for the people and pokémon of which they'd be tasked with protecting. there was no telling what lies deeper in the depths of living hell, but for the sake of the unfortunate folks affected, and for all of hoenn for that matter, silverio would walk through this hell barefoot if need be.

the waters rise, with small waves rippling around at his shins as he and the captain dared to venture into the lower levels. the frogadier has yet to return from his directive, leaving an impression that there was much more to investigate within this failing edifice as the man had initially anticipated. the woman may be right about the place being far beyond the point of salvation, but any efforts to mount a rescue of afflicted civilians, workers, and pokémon would be well worth the sacrifice.

off to his side, audible cracks sparked nearby, then suddenly...a crash!

"watch out!" a wall comes tumbling down, and silverio instinctively ushers himself towards the captain and her vaporeon to cover them from the growing mess. meanwhile, his golisopod stands firm between the group and the falling debris to hold it back with his massive, hard-scaled arms. "thanks, big guy." the insect's self-made meat shield would allow ample time for the rest of the group to separte from the rubble.

"are you two alright? you're not hurt, are you?" he addresses the captain. surely, he would prioritize her safety, and her aquatic companion's, over his own at this point.

duty compels them down the stairs, then compels them again to wade into questionable waters. at her side, her vaporeon raises its chin to keep its purple-finned head above the surface. it does what it can to move the water out of the room, but it feels like trying to move the ocean out of its basin. her brows furrow as she thinks of the long hours ahead, unaware of the imminent collapse until the loud crack that spins everything into motion. [break][break]silverio places himself between her and the wall, brave and foolish in equal parts. his golisopod maneuvers into position, becoming another layer of protection for the pair of rangers as it braces clawed hands against the collapse. [break][break]she blinks up at him as he pins his concerns on her, a myriad of emotions passing behind her eyes before finally sharpening into something chastising. [break][break]"i'm fine. we're fine," she says dismissively, bristling at her perceived fragility. "but you need to watch out for yourself, too, ranger delfino."[break][break]but the feeling quickly passes over her. he's just a ranger, good and selfless to a fault. better guided by an open hand than a closed fist. her face softens.[break][break]"thank you," she rectifies, gentler this time. "but if that wall had fallen on us, we would've had two injured rangers instead of one."

pokémon have played a vital role for silverio, helping him through some of the toughest times of his young life to this point. it can be safe to assume that performing risky and potentially life-altering tasks as a ranger is his way giving back to them. to their livelihood. to ensure that they, and the people who have come to co-exist with them - such as the man himself and the captain - would go on to live long and healthy lives in spite of the region suffering in the midst of chaos.

but to be castigated for wanting to do just that, and all for seemingly lacking in self-care?

now that was something he had never anticipated, and thus, he was taken aback by the captain's words. he turns his eyes away from her, from everything, to reflect on possible repercussions. he would rather allow himself or his own pokémon to take the brunt of any incoming damage than to have anyone else get caught in the crosshairs. on the flip-side, one downed ranger would likely mean one less subordinate for her to command. and so, ultimately, he would think better of the situation. at least for the moment. eyes return to her...

"understood..."

his head props up as he could've sworn he'd heard a voice in the distance. just then, his frogadier returns to the group with arms flailing in a direction far off towards another corridor. "what's up? did you find something?" or maybe someone. the amphibian scoots off once more, turning a corner. feet erratically splashing as he follows suit of his froggy friend, he pokes his head in the direction of...yes, there were voices, and neither were his nor the captain's.

"hey, it sounds like someone's calling for help over here!" he waits for her and her partner to rejoin them before setting off, golisopod bringing up the rear after gently setting the broken-and-now-dampened sheetrock aside.

silverio averts his eyes and she feels a pang of guilt. nevertheless, she doesn't walk back her reprimand along a path of apologies — war is on their doorstep and she'd rather he remember her warning at a crucial moment than have to pick up his ranger tags off his body later. selfishness is survival and survival is victory. the collapsed wall is just a microcosm of that lesson. [break][break]a pervasive, awkward feeling hangs in the air like smoke, prevailing even after his frogadier returns. she's grateful for something to keep them busy, though, slower to trail after silverio and his pokemon as they splash ahead. [break][break]her pace speeds up at the mention of someone calling, joining her ranger colleague at his side. once the water stops sloshing, she can hear it too, further down the hall. [break][break] "let's go get them — " she glances at her vaporeon, motioning ahead with the tilt of her head. " — follow the voice. use aqua ring if they seem hurt."[break][break]unencumbered by the flooding, vaporeon flits ahead, sticking its head into adjacent rooms in search of the source of the voice.

and get them, they shall...

he takes those prior words into account. and yet, as he and his comrades paddled forward, the words continued to ring in his head like a gong echoing for miles across a city. what was probably meant to be a council pertaining to his seemingly unreasonable actions continues to hack away at his subconscious, and at this rate, it may eventually trigger a migraine. but if it was for the sake of potentially preventing a similar mishap from occurring once more in the near future, then suppose it was fair for the man to work on enduring that pressure on his mind.

the heads of the paldean, the amphibian, and the insectoid begin poking into each room in search of anyone afflicted, ears wide open. but then a pause, and silv's attention diverts to the captain once more. "thank you, too. i will...take your words into account, for the future." that is to say, if there was to be a future after the impending, seemingly countless battles.

"somebody...!? anybody...!? please! help us!"

the voices grow louder with each step, although muffled, they seem. one doorway, perhaps leading into a more spacious area, barricaded by more rubble. silverio plants an ear on a wall adjacent to the pile. he hears someone. "...sounds like two people..." he signals for his bulky bug warrior again, but this time, remembering to have it ease up on the impact; there was no telling how much longer this structure would hold up.

a swift razor shell cuts through the debris in mere seconds, unveiling two workers - a man and a woman - trapped within a pile of broken, dampened sheetrock. and possibly molded too. the golisopod cautiously manuevers it while the frogadier projects a hydro pump to wash the materials away. "we've got you, we're here to help." a brief once-over shows that both victims have sustained some injuries, but the extent of such couldn't be determined at this moment.

silv offers a hand to both, to lift them out of the rising waters. how long before the said waters ascend to insufferable levels? that seems impossible to estimate, but in any case, the group would need to act quickly to get these folks to safety.
