miyako is very asleep when she arrives at route 114. she only jostles awake when whiskey, her stoutland, skids to a decisive stop at the very beginning of the trailhead, almost knocking the snoozing officer off his back entirely. startling into lucidity, miyako slowly untangles her fingers from whiskey's fur as she blinks sleep from her eyes. "eh? are we here?"[break][break]

whiskey barks, as if to say: 'what the hell do you think?'[break][break]

miyako slowly takes in her surroundings. a rugged trail stretches out ahead of her, a long, winding path to meteor falls. she had heard it was picturesque, but wasn't aware just how beautiful it would actually be. the land is scarred with meteoric scars, and a well-worn path has been eroded into the face of a mountain. miyako manages a smile as she gently pats stoutland's head. "nice," she affirms. "good dog."[break][break]

whiskey holds his head higher and shakes out his long, elegantly groomed pelt, as if to say: 'when aren't i?'[break][break]

miyako slowly lowers herself down from her valiant steed, prepared to head out into the wilderness.

The mountains near Meteor Falls were home to some truly terrifying species, both inside and outside the cave proper. One such Pokémon would come barreling down the mountain trail: a rock-armored predator capable of altering the landscape itself. The first sign of its presence would be a loud crash, small to medium-sized pieces of rock rolling down the trail at great speeds. The second would be its stomping and tromping, causing small tremors that Miyako may have been able to feel. Only then would she be able to see the THRASHING and writhing creature. Were she to look more closely, she would see something unusual about it.

Were those reins attached to it? And was that a green-haired female astride the brutally strong predator? Just what kind of maniacal daredevil was this trainer?

miyako is still groggy as she dismounts whiskey, taking in the peacefulness of route 114. the air is crisp, and the scent of pine fills her lungs as she reaches up high to stretch out her arms. but, before she can fully relax, the ground beneath her feet begins to tremble.[break][break]

"what the hell…?" she mutters, instantly alert as the distant sound of crashing rocks and thundering footsteps reach her ears. miyako's instincts kick in, her hand immediately reaching for the pokeballs clasped to her belt loops. whiskey stands by her side, growling low, his eyes locked on the source of the disturbance.[break][break]

then, appearing on the trail ahead, is a massive, rock-armored Pokémon barreling toward them, the sheer force of its movement sending debris flying. what truly catches miyako’s eye isn’t just the terrifying beast itself—it is the person riding it. a green-haired woman, clinging to reins attached to the thrashing creature, completely fearless.[break][break]

miyako's eyes go wide. goddamn. that's cool as shit.[break][break]

even so, before the woman can process what she is seeing, a screech pierces the air, followed by a sharp cawing. her gaze snaps upward, where a mandibuzz is circling above, its keen eyes locked on a target down the trail—a small, defenseless mudbray that had wandered into the chaos.[break][break]

oh boy. poor thing. miyako doesn't really wanna see the vulture eat the poor thing, so the officer languorously pulls an empty pokeball from her bag.

Just as the Mandibuzz swooped down to scoop up the Mudbray, it took cover inside the Poké Ball Miyako offered it... at least temporarily. The swoop led it right into Jiwari's flicking tail, knocking the dark-type bird senseless. While it wasn't quite a proper ROCK THROW, the earth that he hurled at the wild amidst his bucking rampage was just as strong as a deliberate one. With a strong tug on his reins, Jiwari stopped, Shalin woozy as she slid onto the back edge of the arching seat strapped to him.

Shalin weakly waved to Miyako Noguchi , trying to manage a greeting... but the Tyranitar had left her out of breath. All she could do was drop an empty Poké Ball on top of the now-unconscious Mandibuzz. She would figure out flying on the bird later. For now, she had to make sure not to overstrain her muscles after absorbing that kind of strength from her unruly ride!

miyako lets out a low whistle as she watches the tyranitar finally come to a stop, her eyes wide with a mixture of awe and disbelief. she had seen some wild things in her time, but this? this is something else entirely. as the green-haired woman weakly waves, miyako quickly closes the distance between them, a grin spreading across her face.[break][break]

"dude!" she calls out, practically bouncing on her feet as she reaches shalin. "were you riding that thing? that’s freaking awesome!"[break][break]

miyako's excitement is palpable, her exhaustion from earlier completely forgotten. "i mean, look at this guy!" she gestures to the massive rock-armored Pokémon, her voice filled with awe. ...she kinda wants to ride the thing too. is it like a bucking tauros at all those old rodeo shows? "like, how? and can i try?"

Shalin's smile grew into a grin as she slid off Jiwari, the stranger in the wide-open cavern showering her with compliments. "I was! They don't call me Hoenn's wildest Pokémon rider for nothing!" The Captain dismounting would give Miyako Noguchi a good look at the rock-type's curved, backpack-style seat that could accommodate the Tyranitar standing vertical or hunched over.

Jiwari turned his back to Miyako, as to goad her into mounting up. Even if she had experience with Tauros, such a strong species might have been more than she could handle. They were strong enough to alter the landscape, and harnessing to one was not an option. Even if the material used to strap oneself in was strong enough to withstand Jiwari's fierce bucking, typical human bones would not be.

"Before I get too much farther, Captain Shalin Nariya, Petalburg, and he's Jiwari," she introduced herself and her armored companion. "You sure? He... puts a Tauros to shame. I just don't want to see you get hurt." If Miyako was persistent, neither she nor her Tyranitar would stop her from climbing on and giving her the experience of the meanest rodeo she'd witnessed in quite some time.

oh, wow. miyako is more than a little impressed with captain shalin and her badass ride. she practically bounces on her feet, eyes sparkling with excitement. "yeah, yeah, i'm miyako, worst police officer this side of mt. pyre," she says, more to herself than anything, evidently distracted with trying to find a way to saddle the tyranitar.[break][break]

as for actually riding the thing, well... miyako grins. she's not a small woman, and she's got decent muscle on her, but compared to this beast, she's basically a sack of potatoes. "well, yeah, i'd expect nothing less. the best part of a rodeo is falling on your ass anyways," she jokes, even as she steps forward, curiosity burning within her.[break][break]

a rush of adrenaline fills miyako as she steps forward and, with a shift of her legs, pulls herself up and atop the tyranitar. as she slips into the saddle, she takes hold of the reins affixed to him, and looks down at jiwari with a wide grin. this will definitely be the ride of a lifetime!

Shalin giggled when she heard Miyako reflecting her introduction's structure. Before she could get too much farther, she saw the police officer sit atop Jiwari. The rock-type leaned forward and began to run like a bipedal dinosaur, at first listening to Miyako Noguchi 's commands to give her the illusion of control. He wasn't fast, but every muscle movement, every tromp rippled with surreal strength. To an inexperienced rider, even his routine strides may have felt like being bucked from a Tauros.

The moment Miyako would try to force the Tyranitar into a wild move, the true rodeo experience would begin. As long as she kept her motions fairly calm, the behemoth would obey her...

for a brief moment, miyako feels a rush of exhilaration as jiwari begins to run—the wind in her hair, the power of the beast beneath her, the raw energy crackling through the air. it feels almost… spiritual, like she is one with the pokemon, connected in a way that transcends words.[break][break]

but then, ever so gradually, jiwari begins to pick up speed, his massive legs pounding against the rock floor with increasing intensity. miyako can feel the reins slipping from her fingers as the tyranitar's movements become more erratic, his control over his own powerful body starting to unravel. she yanks on the reins, trying to regain some semblance of command, but it is too late. a particularly rough landing after leaping over a rock throws his rider to the ground with a painful thud.[break][break]

"oof..." miyako groans, her body aching from such powerful contact as she lies there on the rocky floor. she blinks slowly, her vision swimming for a moment before clarity returns. it's not too dissimilar from some particularly bad falls from her bike, but its definitely more painful. she can already feel a bruise blooming across the length of her back. "okay... i see what you meant now. that guy is nuts."[break][break]

she looks back up at jiwari, who is now calmly standing a few feet away, his powerful form rippling with muscle, and she offers him a haphazard thumbs up. "thanks for the ride, buddy."

Shalin watched Miyako and Jiwari tromp around the pass, a little worried that a landslide might occur from how forceful the Tyranitar was being. With a sudden move from the rider, the rock-type roared and started throwing his weight around, a furious bucking motion ultimately dislodging her. "I tried to warn you... he can buck really hard if you make a sudden move." Shalin winced. "Are you okay, though? And was it fun? Usually when I want Jiwari to buck me like that, I do it over a grassy field for that reason. Has a bit more cushion than a hard rock face."

The Tyranitar returned Miyako's thumbs-up with a prideful stance, as though he was happy to have dislodged Miyako. "So what brings you out here?" the Captain asked. "If you can last for eight seconds on Jiwari's back like that, you're no ordinary trainer."
