05 investigate a broken clock tower and discover that they are missing parts.
16 search for suitable locations to set up camp/base (e.g. underground tunnels, outskirts, abandoned homes).
25 involve an automatic steam train in some way that runs throughout the kingdom.
32 either by exploring clockwork tunnels underneath the city or the castle, liberate carbink who have been working in other coal engines for eons.

"Do I look like a ranger? I ain't no boy scout! I just respect the rules!" Rex grumbled as he poked around the tower, his Gallade standing vigil over him like a loyal knight. Every kingdom needed a knight, and while his Gallade was no machine, his loyalty was ironclad.

They had been together through thick and thin, after all.

"I guess I like the Deliboys. Oh, or Pink Florges. Or Melody Miro and her newest album!" Rex beamed in pride. Meeting the Top Champ had been an interesting experience, but it was one he was still working through. "What're you doing with this tower?"

The chance of finding music that fit the average Hoennian youth's taste in this day and age was likely impossible. The Mechanical Kingdom produced music, not noise. Come to think of it, it made plenty of that too.

"Is it broken or something?"

Pinching the bridge of her nose, she continues to have a look around, following the railings and muttering small notes to herself. A gear missing here, a chain missing from over there. A bit of rust and wear on the larger gears, but she'll need some help with those.[break][break]

"Hands don't move, doesn't tell time properly. You could probably say that." Maybe she should take photos of the parts she's missing? With her trusty Rotom-haunted phone, it's simple enough, especially when Koios helps to add in measurements. "The clock towers here have a lot of influence over what happens here. Something about the sounds and the bells helps determine what the automatons around these parts do."[break][break]

From the other end, Reiner calls out, beckoning Eris over to take a look at what he's found.[break][break]

"Another missing piece? Yeesh, this place is real messed up. Might hafta nick some parts from somewhere..." She sighs, pulling away from the mess to cast Rex a sidewards glance. "Mind heading back into the city with me? I've gotta go scavenging."

The fact that this little girl knew that much about mechanics made Rex's head spin. He pursed his lips thoughtfully.

"Let's go scavenging, then. I can't wait to run into the prince!" Rex whistled, his walking to his side. His knight was eternally loyal, profound, and extremely stiff. He wouldn't have looked out of place engulfed in steel, as depressing a realization as that was. "Someone's gotta protect you."

His eyes lingered on Reiner for several moments. He had never seen such a powerful Luxray. He longed to clash with it, but such a fight was meaningless so deep in an unknown world.

The city awaited them, and thus Rex would answer its call. As the younger girl led the way, Rex cocked his head in confusion. "So you know what we need to fix this doodad, right?"

[attr="class","eris109"]He's genuine about that statement. Like many other people who have yet to know of her cursed escapades, she is but a child that needs to be protected. And to that end she laughs, leading the way back into the empty streets and forgotten scraps.[break][break]

"Yeah, we've probably gotta wander through the tunnels to find what we're looking for."[break][break]

As always, Reiner keeps pace with her, only ever looking directly at Rex when he notices the man staring for a little too long. His eyes narrow, his ear flicking as he takes in the whole vibe of his Gallade. Then finally, flit away when he realises he's lagging a little behind.[break][break]

"Arkyn, you awake?"[break][break]

The path they take slopes downwards, a darkness opened wide for all to see through arches of rust and crumbling bricks. As they draw closer to the entrance, Eris looks down to her satchel and give it a gentle prod. With it comes a wriggling, a squeak announcing the presence of a much smaller soul - A young and bright-eyed Skarmory, one that barely seems old enough to be out of the nest.[break][break]

"Grant us safe passage?"[break][break]

He chirps, flapping his wings as they begin to emanate a gentle glow. Intricate spirals and patterns coat his feathers, a strange sight for those who are rather unfamiliar with the illumina phenomenon but a rather welcome one for those who yearn to venture the depths. Under leaking pipes and over puddles of water, their walk is relatively peaceful, their footsteps quietly echoing through the length of this corridor.[break][break]

"So... who is this prince you keep mentioning?"

"You haven't heard?" Rex seemed puzzled by the question. Everyone in Littleroot knew about the Mechanical Kingdom's Prince. There were rumors that if you did a certain chant and boiled a ton of water, he would appear in a flash of steam and grant you a mechanical doll as a companion. "He's this big red guy that makes explosions of steam. I've never heard of a stronger Pokémon, so I want to test myself against it!"

He mimed a few fists, as if he could somehow throw hands with a Legendary Pokémon that could topple a mountain with a vast explosion of steam. Still, his eyes gleamed with manic passion at the idea of fistfighting the mighty.

"This place showed up out of nowhere, but it's all the kids at Littleroot talk about now. I'd pester Hideo about it, if he wasn't so busy." And if Hideo Kino wasn't the final stop on his journey to the top.

The Skarmory flies away. Rex's eyes reflected their glowing light. Illumina was a familiar concept to the young man.

"Hopefully we don't wander for too long." Their feet made small splish splashes as they walked. "It's a big place. Super easy to get lost."

[attr="class","eris109"]"Oh, Volcanion?" With how long the rift's been open, it seems rather strange that the name hasn't gotten around by now. Then again, she is that kind of kid that doesn't think her being in such a place is strange at all. "He's a knight, not a prince. And he's..."[break][break]

The puddle under her boot ripples as she steps right into it, the water quietly sloshing as she continues with another step.[break][break]

"He's been making himself sick. Looking for a princess that's gone missing."[break][break]

Water continues to drip from the pipes above, a particularly cold droplet landing atop Eris' head. She flinches, then straightens up with a sigh, reaching up to swat the remaining water away.[break][break]

"Don't worry about us getting lost. I have these tunnels kinda mapped out." With a pen in one hand, a piece of parchment in another, she had spent entire days wandering these passages, counting her steps and noting down every little thing close to being called a landmark.[break][break]

"If we just turn this corner and then take the next right -" She begins to hurry, a little more pep in her step as she rounds the next corner. "Here we are!"[break][break]

Her hand rests upon a metal door, her weight pressing against it as she begins to push it open.[break][break]

"I found this abandoned engine room a while back. Produces steam that powers an engine above, which would kinda explain the leaking pipes around! When I went up to take a look to what it was powering, it looked like some sort of train station. Must help to power something there?"[break][break]

Hell if she knows anything about the locomotors here. She hasn't had a chance to jump on any moving trains as of yet, but she can sure imagine that they too would probably run off steam.[break][break]

"Point is, we can snag -"[break][break]

As the door creaks open, she can hear the soft rustle and clack of coal, an uncomfortable heat blasting through the crack. And she tenses, stopping her attempt to push the door any further.

"Right on. I respect the commitment." He didn't seem proud. There was little to be proud of with Eris. Rex barely knew her. Nor was he impressed, but it was as if she had met some idealized expectations within the young man's odd mind. "Gotta have a map if you're a trainer."

As coal rattled behind the iron door, Eris tensed. Rex did as well, but for another reason entirely. He didn't know if Eris was anxious in anticipation of a potential threat, but the young man saw it differently.

There was nothing dangerous behind this door.

There were only victims and fallen foes. That was what Volcanion would have wanted, Rex suspected.

"LEAF BLADE!" In a flash, Gallade cleaved through the door like a hot knife through butter. It fell off its hinges with a thunderous crash, and Rex ran into the room, eyes wide as he waited for glorious combat. "FACE M-"

His voice cut off as he found himself surrounded by wide-eyed Carbink.

"Eh?"

[attr="class","eris109"]Nowadays, people tended to just get lost for no reason. Who doesn't carry a map or a compass? Or at least a pokemon that can tell direction? It made traversing rifts like this and the sprawling tera caverns much more dangerous than they already were.[break][break]

But probably not as dangerous as the company that made each expedition.[break][break]

With a shout that echoes through these endless clockwork tunnels, Rex busts down the door and begins screaming at -[break][break]

"Carbink?"[break][break]

They're all covered in grime, their crystalline bodies smeared with soot as exhaustion is etched beneath their dull eyes. Nothing seems to be chaining them to this location, but they do not leave at the sight of a now opened door. Someone must've put them here to work this previously abandoned engine... but who? And for what?[break][break]

"Egads! What is a child doing in a place like this? Oh, you must be the people sent to rescue me from this dastardly prison! Excellent work, young man!"[break][break]

That tone. That cadence. That somewhat refined gleam under all the dust and dirt.[break][break]

"Gemsly?"[break][break]

"CARBINK CARBINK CARBINK CARBINK -"

Rex turned to face Eris. Already, his skin was covered in soot from the abhorrent working conditions of this great industrial engine. If the children yearned for the mines, then the adolescents yearned to lose their arm in a clockwork monstrosity.

"The fuck's a Gemsly?" Rex seemed appalled that anyone would name their Pokémon Gemsly of all things. It was probably for the best. If Rex had the choice between between naming his Pokémon Gemsly and giving up on his dreams, he would probably kill himself right then and there.

"These are Carbink!"

"CARBINK CARBINK CARBINK CARBINK-"

He isn't blessed with the divine knowledge to translate Carbink-speak. That's a power reserved only for the mentally unwell and for special protagonists.

"What're they even doing here?"
