It feels surreal - surreal, that mere weeks ago, she has shouted at Kyogre, stood nearly face to face to the same, and now ... and now ... It all sinks in. The gravity of life - the depth of war that has been incomprehensible to her before. The scope of interconnections, a butterfree effect leading one to the other. Causality is a jerk, and she hates it with every fibre of her being, if only because she needs a scapegoat and doesn't know where to direct those feelings at - those feelings that emerge at the sight of Mossdeep City in its current state, peaceful childhood memories erased with a flood like no other.[break]

"F*ck that shit," she cusses under her breath, kicking a pebble as she wanders the abandoned streets. She immediately signed up for relief efforts when she heard that her birthplace has been affected, but somehow, she hasn't realised what she would see now - the broken, the broken, the broken. And she can't even really yell to Cassandra Kubrick about it because that lad is hiding somewhere (respectfully, reasonably). Though at least she wouldn't have to do this all with a stranger, either, even as she only met Navy once and hasn't managed to go down to Dewford since. How it's doing, she wonders ...

Led by a Machamp, a group of stout Pokemon pick through the wreckage at the Fighting Master’s behest. Mossdeep has survived. Gwyar Wledig accomplished something many consider impossible. He held the line against Zev Harcourt and his black knight until the League’s plan could bear fruit. The city stands, and Navy does what he can to help.[break][break]
Grunting, he lifts an iron wall that fell during the battle. No mortal man should be able to lift such a thing, but he is no longer wholly mortal after swearing his life to Hoenn’s service. From beneath the fallen wall, a family of zigzagoon scurry out. One of them, bigger than the rest, nods in thanks before scurrying beneath Vespa Baskerville’s feet while making its escape.[break][break]
A familiar burned face sees the schoolgirl, nodding at her while he taps Navy on the shoulder. Turning, he’s all smiles. It’s always nice to see familiar faces.[break][break]
“Fancy meeting you here.” He says, wiping sweat from his brow. Seeing her’s as good a reason as any to sit down on a nearby bench and take a water break. Flipping open his canteen, he takes a mighty gulp.[break][break]
“Don’t think I caught your name last time. You and yours holding up okay after the battles?”

Still clenching her fist and teeth as she looks over the wreckage, paralysed by what she is witnessing after the battle is over, she only wakes to move as a Zigzagoon shuffles by her feet - in fear or in comfort, it's hard to say as it's gone before she can fully realise what is happening. What she does fully realise is the fact that she isn't quite so alone anymore. Or maybe, never has been, as humans and Pokémon shuffle all around to help with clearing the debris and rebuild what can be. Only she remains useless, until now.[break]

There is surprise - but also relief seeing someone familiar, someone she has wanted to hit up quite badly, but got caught up in something that feels mundane now. Homework ... school projects ... Hm. Her thoughts are muddy, something between teenage rebellion and logical retreat. To the sheriff, she offers somewhat of a smile right now as she nods, "I thought you're in Dewford? I keep seeing you in places that are not." The air feels a little less burdensome to breathe as she speaks what isn't cussing the world, though she is still lacking perspective.[break]

"My name? It's Vespa - Vespa Baskerville," she offers then, though at the same time wondering whether or not it's an insignificant thing to share, "and we're ... fine. We weren't here, after all. I just got to know about it, to be honest." Frustration swings within her voice, quivering a little and so unlike the fierce existence she's used to mask as. Instead, there is a little more exhaustion coming through as she looks at the emerald sky glistening in the water and waves. "Can I help you with something?" It's more of a plea than an offer - a plea, than a request.

Her words sting him, playing at a thread of insecurity that has haunted him for months. He should be in Dewford. His body is, sleeping somewhere far away in a peaceful lake, resting and recovering for when his full strength is needed. Until that day comes, he is nothing but a phantom.[break][break]
“Help me?” He rubs at his beard thoughtfully, trying to conjure up some task before eventually shrugging. “Well, if you wanna volunteer, you can survey the damage with me.” Maybe it will keep up the momentum from their first talk, an impression upon a young mind that war is no game. Tiny, a Skarmory young enough to suit his name, lands on Navy’s shoulder and chirps at Vespa, wings glowing in excitement at the prospect of making a new friend.[break][break]
“I’m glad your family’s alright.” He turns, moving to walk down the street and continue his survey. There’s more rubble, more displaced Pokemon, more problems that only multiply the farther he walks. “They gonna stay in the region, Vespa? Seems like plenty of people are leavin’ now that everything’s getting serious.”

Unaware of what might be going on underneath all the stories untold, she doesn't quite dwell on the questions she doesn't get an answer to. There is still that assumption that one day, she might be able to ask away as much as she wants to, once she got stronger ... once ... once ... If. Thoughts that find place in her subconsciousness, though she brushes them off of her active mind, determination flaring up yet again in the present. "Yeah! Anything," Vespa is quick to confirm as Navy comes up with something to give her to do, just anything for this restless moment that she has nothing to hold on to. Surveying the surroundings? Easy enough, and ...[break]

She is quick to release the Falinks Squad from their pokéball, ready to follow and to lead as usual as she repeats their task to them, "let's observe the surroundings for now, report anything unusual and-or help where you can, and I'm right with you, guys!" She gives them a little bit of a salute - a determined nod, as they return knowing nods, too, walking off and sticking together as she notices a new Pokémon has made its way to the other's shoulder. "That's a - cute one," slips past her lips before she can fully think about them, but it is about the size of the Grookey, it is cutely sized.[break]

"Huh? Yeah - my dad is, anyway. We moved to Slateport because of my school and his work, and think we stay. Don't think he can abandon his garden," she remarks to the other, a lopsided smirk on her face as she thinks about how dedicated her father is to the things he's growing. It would be devastating if ever a time comes ... If this ... She looks around, scurrying off sometimes to see if she can help herself, or navigate the Falinks towards an obstacle, rubble, debris. Looking at a debris rather than at Navy, a quieter voice asks, unsure, "... are you gonna leave one day?"
