Flipping through his very ordinary notebook, he compares it to the very old-fashioned, printed map that he obtained from the front desk of the safari zone. The receptionist kept going on about some app or that he should just 'look it up', but where to look up other than on this very physical map? Shaking his head, Xuying looks over to his companions, all three of X, Y and Z out, as he ventures forth into the Safari Zone. "People these days, amirite?" Quite unknowing that he might be the odd one out.[break]

Pen and paper at the ready, however, he is quite intrigued to see what he might be finding in here worth capturing in a sketch, and in a safari ball.

It doesn't take long until Xuying and company are encountering the first unfamiliar Pokémon - a Treecko that seems to have sneaked up on them quite so, but Y the Rotom is quick to react with a Shock Wave as X the Metagross is attacking with a Psychic. Quickly, their trainer is making use of the moment to throw one of the safari balls he was given, hopefully ensuring his first catch as he hums to himself.[break]

"Nice ... one down, then," he looks through his notebook and writes a few words to it. Something worth to celebrate? Maybe in the end, he'll get his team something nice to ... do. It's not like they understand the same thing under 'food' after all, so ... team-building activities? Hm ... he'll have to workshop that reward question for sure.

Just as his mind wanders to whether or not they should cook together, so at least he can enjoy a celebratory feast after they even did something together (win-win, he would say!), another Pokémon crosses their paths. It takes a while until it clicks that this must be a Torchic, and a pretty fierce one at that. Whereas the Treecko has sneaked upon him, she is placing herself right into his path with a Fight me!! attitude that doesn't seem like it will rest until she hasn't hit something at least once.[break]

He looks at her again. ... Or kicked something, probably. It seems that his thoughts are taking too much time - too little action that he feels a kick to his shin deeply, bending over in pain. A total wildcard, as it seems. "Hey, what's that for-" he can only shout in irritation as she already disappears in bright light - and left is only a safari ball on the ground.[break]

Staring in disbelief at the safari ball on the ground, laying there unmoving, he picks it up eventually, pocketing it to the other caught Treecko. Fine ... if she wants to come with him so badly, he figures it can't hurt to have her with him, or something. That does feel like it calls for cake as treat, though ... His shin still hurts from where she kicked it, with vengeance apparently, as his partners only looked in confusion. Y is snickering manically as Z is just floating around, and he shakes his head at either.[break]

Hopefully the next encounter won't be as ... brutal.[break]
[break]
To his luck, it doesn't seem like the Mudkip he sees next is out to kick, bite or hit him in any one way, only staring blankly at him from where he's lurking in the pond. He might as well could have ignored the same if not for a slightly uncanny feeling, as if there is an observation being made about him that he'd rather not. To his luck-luck, however, it all turns out to be quite alright as the Mudkip leaves the pond in a calm fashion, and reveals why he has been staring at Xuying for so long - by his feet, the scientist now finds a ... rock. Quite a pretty one at that.[break]

He immediately catches it, no questions asked.[break]
[break]
And now, as he is all out safari balls, he muses what else there might be to discover. First, he has to properly register the three he caught thus far, though he'll be sure to make some time to come back and see what else there might be.
