Shock runs over the Torchic's face before she narrows her eyes, circling the Marill like a hunter would its prey, like a ritual that is written down nowhere at all. "Why not? It seems that he doesn't have quite the luck - it's truthfully his own mistake as he hasn't even expected to land here quite so, but ... well, life goes. Lapses in judgement come. Maybe he's already getting old ... (at the ripe age of not-even-thirty). "What a shame," Xuying remarks with a little sigh that translates into a puff of white fog in the air, "but hmm ... I guess you are right. I didn't think about that ..." A pondering look crosses his face as he tries to remember where he put it after he muted his notifications, not needing or wanting to know what cousin third grade twice removed is up to. Has he ever used the memo app, actually? Probably. Doesn't mean he actually remembers doing so, but ... it'll be fine, right?[break]

Just as he wanted to give thanks to the stranger, a bright white screen blinking up as he finally found his phone, she warns him of - of ... something. Freezing immediately, his eyes wander around. Luckily, the Porygon-Z doesn't have to be told twice not to move; in fact, he should probably call the poor lad back soon, unless its already defunct abilities are getting even more defunct. And then ... Xuying sees two Pokémon nearby, though the Cryogonal is the one that catches his attention. If she said that they are particularly vicious, then ... Slowly moving a pokéball out of his own, it takes only a moment until he throws it at the Cryogonal, wondering if he should throw a rock into the other direction to distract the Beartic.

One could say that he is enjoying the more rural side of life when most of his 'job' involves technology and computers and all that stuff, but ... in all honesty, the more peaceful and calm atmosphere of Verdanturf Town is also quite what he is already familiar with. It gives him Pinwheel Forest vibes in a way, though it isn't homesickness that he feels as he has such thoughts. In fact, there is curiosity what else this town might hold ... so Xuying ventures on, a paper bag in his arms as he just did a few groceries.[break]

He is currently trying to navigate the six million group text messages that blow up his phone again, sighing as he puts it away - when he notices that the shiny Rotom has scurried off to somewhere, and ... that exact thing is ... oh? A lone ball? And as he looks around a little more, it seems very much like another trainer just dropped it. "Y, get off the pokéball, it's not yours," Xuying remarks to the Rotom as he looks over to the stranger. "Sorry, can be a lil' more nosy than necessary sometimes."

Staring in disbelief at the safari ball on the ground, laying there unmoving, he picks it up eventually, pocketing it to the other caught Treecko. Fine ... if she wants to come with him so badly, he figures it can't hurt to have her with him, or something. That does feel like it calls for cake as treat, though ... His shin still hurts from where she kicked it, with vengeance apparently, as his partners only looked in confusion. Y is snickering manically as Z is just floating around, and he shakes his head at either.[break]

Hopefully the next encounter won't be as ... brutal.[break]

To his luck, it doesn't seem like the Mudkip he sees next is out to kick, bite or hit him in any one way, only staring blankly at him from where he's lurking in the pond. He might as well could have ignored the same if not for a slightly uncanny feeling, as if there is an observation being made about him that he'd rather not. To his luck-luck, however, it all turns out to be quite alright as the Mudkip leaves the pond in a calm fashion, and reveals why he has been staring at Xuying for so long - by his feet, the scientist now finds a ... rock. Quite a pretty one at that.[break]

He immediately catches it, no questions asked.[break]

And now, as he is all out safari balls, he muses what else there might be to discover. First, he has to properly register the three he caught thus far, though he'll be sure to make some time to come back and see what else there might be.

She has gotten no name from whatever strange trainer has caught her - no, actually, freed her from the safari zone, but that doesn't mean that the Torchic would care that much about it. There is only so much time she has before the trainer might catch up on that she ran away (was literally left behind in the care of another) and there is just so much ... emotions inside.[break]

Narrowed eyes, the Torchic is making eye contact with another, meaning ... She runs up to whoever it is, small, big, or not - all she says is a clear, loud "Fight me!"

It's only when he (believes to) hears the voice of a familiar acquaintance that a moment of relief of this exceedingly unfamiliar experience washes over him, though it doesn't last for as long since they are still pursued by a Genesect kind of thing and all that stuff that comes with it. There is simply not enough screams in the world that could fill his lungs at this point, familiarly unfamiliar - unfamiliarly familiar with the kind of pressure that weighs down on his body as they reach speeds that he thought would be impossible. Is that what the future holds? A little shocking, really.[break]

"So, err, can I count on you to have my back-?" he just manages to shout back before things go down very fast, very quickly. He barely has time to process, left alone follow, and is only glad that the Cyclizar he is riding is knowing what to do, following the other through the busy highway with similar - the same motions as disaster unfolds, too.[break]

Coming to an abrupt halt, his legs aren't shaking as much as he thought when he jumps off the Cyclizar, his pride a little scratched from that shaking experience. But as they are now faced with juggernauts that are decidedly unfriendly ... he tries to grab Josh by the arm, running - hiding - running whenever possible, muttering, "we are definitely getting out of here, my friend-" Certainly, he has no fighting skills, but there is a chilling realisation that he definitely does not have it in himself to test whether or not the simulation gave him any battle prowess.

"-Yes, I think those should be worth a try! Let me see ..." With some good-hearted trial-and-error and the help of this - Fuecoco-esque cosplayer (?) - enthusiast (?) - he won't even question it (yet) -, they manage to find enough scrap metal pieces that seem to work together, and if nothing else, Xuying is quite good at improvisation, one would say. He also decides to pull out his partners, although the Porygon-Z is as useless as ever, while the shiny Rotom strangely refuses to get into the device when its usually so enthusiastic about things. It's at that point that he hears Andrea's question, looking at her curiously, "Unown? I think ... I did, but what about them?"[break]

It's when the voice suddenly starts up, reminding him painstakingly of that one professor he had during his university days, but ... this is definitely not them. It's much more - he doesn't even know if he wants to think about it. "... D-do you know anything about this? Uhm, actually, what should we do with it?" He knows they just repaired it, but there is also an uncanny feeling of taking it with them when the voice has already been so ominous about it. Or maybe he's wrong?

Xuying looks at the other through a ruby-coloured, transparent chunk of the stone he's analysing by pure sight right now, determined to bring it back to the Sturmes' Turmes current quarters in Hoenn to perhaps run some chemical tests before he puts it aside, properly looking at the unfamiliar duo. Not only does the Pokémon have quite a ... strange kind of appearance, of something he has definitely not seen before, he is also rather unfamiliar with the person that introduces him as champion and gym leader. But ... hey, wait, that probably means that they are strong, right? He stands up in a jiffy, patting off the dust of his pants before he wipes off the dust on his pants (did his actions bring any merit? One could only speculate), offering a hand to the other.[break]

"Pleasure to meet you and - uhh - Raikou, was it?" he looks over, internally running calculations and scouring through his mind for why the name sounds familiar, "it's a pleasure to meet you. My name is - Xuying, Xuying Zhou, or Zhou Xuying, as I would say, but you can also just call me XY, or XYZ." He pockets the rock as he pauses for a moment before trying to choose his next words carefully, "since ... we are both looking for something, so to speak, how about teaming up? I'm not the best fighter, to be honest, and since you mentioned you're a champion and gym leader ... Company is always nice, isn't it?" Is he making too large jumps in logic? Probably. But he delivers it with a smile, packaged in confidence, though deep down, he also is quite aware that it's a little bit of a wonder he has survived collecting the five rocks he had managed to gather thus far.

Just as his mind wanders to whether or not they should cook together, so at least he can enjoy a celebratory feast after they even did something together (win-win, he would say!), another Pokémon crosses their paths. It takes a while until it clicks that this must be a Torchic, and a pretty fierce one at that. Whereas the Treecko has sneaked upon him, she is placing herself right into his path with a Fight me!! attitude that doesn't seem like it will rest until she hasn't hit something at least once.[break]

He looks at her again. ... Or kicked something, probably. It seems that his thoughts are taking too much time - too little action that he feels a kick to his shin deeply, bending over in pain. A total wildcard, as it seems. "Hey, what's that for-" he can only shout in irritation as she already disappears in bright light - and left is only a safari ball on the ground.[break]

It doesn't take long until Xuying and company are encountering the first unfamiliar Pokémon - a Treecko that seems to have sneaked up on them quite so, but Y the Rotom is quick to react with a Shock Wave as X the Metagross is attacking with a Psychic. Quickly, their trainer is making use of the moment to throw one of the safari balls he was given, hopefully ensuring his first catch as he hums to himself.[break]

"Nice ... one down, then," he looks through his notebook and writes a few words to it. Something worth to celebrate? Maybe in the end, he'll get his team something nice to ... do. It's not like they understand the same thing under 'food' after all, so ... team-building activities? Hm ... he'll have to workshop that reward question for sure.

Frankly, coming to Hoenn and he hasn't expected to be met with this many surprises and changes all around from his familiar environment, he is quite ... flabberghasted. Astonished. Intrigued. And, in this very special moment ... also quite endangered. Only dodging barely from an attack from some unknown force, he is quick to summon his entire force of three Pokémon, the X, Y and Z coming out and together.[break]

"Somewhat? It's no funny business, though ... what the heck is that even?" he shouts over to Katharina. It seems like the creature is already enraged, so there is no use in concealing themselves much more, or so he thinks. In the meanwhile, his Pokémon are operating on their own, firing different attacks of both defensive and offensive nature at the shining threat.

It isn't like Xuying wouldn't be somewhat familiar with cold weather. Unova can be pretty cold if it wants to be. Living in a tower from Arceus-knows-what-time can get pretty frosty. He has multiple blankets for a reason, and nearly collapsed amidst the Hoennian summer time. But ... that all this time ... there would have been a place like this ... Hm. He has to revisit the map he has of Hoenn for sure (one that probably dates back a century or so, even though it's condition is more speaking of the last decade - someone probably photocopied it some time).[break]

Now, however, he is finding that his pen isn't working in the chilly weather as, at least, he is appropriately dressed for the occasion. Still, it doesn't do any good when he can't take proper notes and when his trusted-mistrusted companion of Z the Porygon-Z is also just literally freezing up every five steps. He sighs, shielding his eyes as he looks around to find someone - anyone. "Hey ... wonder if you have a pen you can lend me?" he says immediately after finding someone. The next problem would obviously be his frosted notebook, but one step at a time, right?
