It was a dream world for many, despite the simulated dangers. She had run into several legendary Pokémon within the simulation, as well. Getting experience against them in combat was important, as she would discover when her city would come under attack in the near future. "I'll need to jump through a couple hoops to get you past security, though, because of where the simulation pods are located. It shouldn't be too much trouble for me, though!" Little did she know how long of a rain check she would need to give Miyako to provide her the experience of a lifetime.

Shalin nodded at Miyako's reluctance to become a Gym Leader. "I worked closely with CIAN MAHER back when I was Rustboro's Captain," she namedropped the VCT champion as the cop gushed about her desire to test out all the forms of augmenting energy Pokémon could harness. "I figured you'd be most interested in the Sygna Suit, but they'll all be there."

Shalin basked in Miyako's compliments, Volt taking off in a QUICK ATTACK and performing wide donuts around her. "That's what hunting in Space-Time Distortions will get you," she answered. Though no correlation between the Distortions and unusually large Pokémon had been proven, they were notably easier to find since the Distortions started showing up. "Yup! Rielle's got a mean tail, too," she gestured toward the Vaporeon whose tail clearly looked like it could flail and flick a human about.

Miyako seemed to have noticed Starr didn't wear reins. "Very observant!" Shalin cheerfully replied. "So the reason Starr doesn't wear reins is she prefers to be controlled by the rider's mind. A lot of psychic-type Pokémon can read their rider's minds to know whether they want to speed up, slow down, or turn. Many of them can also use psychic energy as a harness to keep you from falling off." As rare as psychic-type ride Pokémon were, they were fantastic for beginners for that reason. The psychic hold served as training wheels while novices learned how to balance themselves, learn fundamentals, and the like.

"Will do!" Shalin promised, looking forward to the day she could see Miyako's reaction to having her senses overloaded. It wasn't just the sense of touch from sitting on a wing buzzing too fast to see. Sight, and to a lesser, extent, hearing, were thrown out the door, as well. To some, it might seem like torture. Shalin was built different, and clearly Miyako was, too.

"It's more coincidence," Shalin ciarified. "I got fourth place in that tournament! Would have been on the podium next to him, but ollie morales bumped me off at the very end. Though I knew Cian from before that. He's Rustboro's Gym Leader. Gym Leaders and Ranger Captains of the same city often coordinate with one another." Though they hadn't done as much with one another as she would have liked during their time together, she felt she had to move on to Rustboro. She was certain Elise would be good friends with him.

Psychic-type Pokémon truly were special. Though they could not communicate with words, many could read the emotions and feelings of their trainers and others around them. That painted images that mere language could not. "Yup! You'll feel it once you get on her." As if on cue, Starr stood next to Miyako and shifted her eyes toward the officer expectantly. "She also has a unique form of teleportation. Just try to be careful -- psychic-fueled bucking is no joke." With Miyako in her condition, it wouldn't be falling that would be the problem with an Espeon feigning anger; it would be absorbing the full power of the psychic-type's mind concentrated into a telekinetic heaving motion.

"Not all of them -- just the ones that are in the same city," Shalin answered, having seen emails go back and forth between officials running Lavaridge Town, too. AIRI WATANABE and DESIREE BLOOMS had a similar professional relationship with one another, as did Josh Devlin and annalise henderson . "Perhaps one day, we can go out to dinner and talk about it. You look like you've got enough to keep you occupied, heh!" she teased, inferring how much Miyako wanted to sit in the saddle of almost every Pokémon she had on the plateau, despite still recovering from the thrashing Jiwari had given her.

"As rough as you want to make it!" Shalin chirped back, seeing concern race up Miyako's face. "If you've raised a psychic-type Pokémon before, you know how powerful their minds can be!" To assuage her concerns, the green Espeon would send calm, heartwarming emotions and vibes toward the officer, directly pinging her mind if allowed. Were they able to make a telepathic link, she would read her mind to get an idea exactly how fast to go, how hard to turn, and if Miyako really wanted, how hard to buck and writhe.

Shalin watched Miyako Noguchi and Starr dash about with bated breath, several of her other Pokémon staring at them with confused faced as the psychic-type ALLY SWITCHED with them haphazardly. "She really doesn't know how to hold back, does she..." the Captain sighed as she watched the green Pokémon make some vicious turns, even juxtaposing with Jiwari and getting a roar from the Tyranitar. One such turn was so sharp that it felt like they went one direction going into a teleport, only to come out of it moving a totally different one.

Yet not once did Starr's psychic grip falter; she kept the guest rider's posture perfect, giving her the thrill she sought. While she wasn't as speedy through the material world as some of the Captain's other Pokémon, she more than made up for it with how quickly she moved through the astral world: the domain of psychic Pokémon!

The shout caused a wave of relief to calm Shalin; if she was hooting and hollering so much, she couldn't have been hurt; it was just the right amount of thrill for Miyako in her compromised condition... right?

Even Shalin's other Pokémon looked confused as Starr danced, swerved, and ALLY SWITCHED her way around the Captain's vast grounds. Many of her Pokémon were displaced, including some of her water-types. A Shiny Floatzel who was once swimming on the surface found himself in the grass by the shore. The Pokémon buzzed his tails loudly, hurling a whirlwind in Starr's direction... but by the time it hit, the two were already gone, the whirlwind smacking Kiku, Shalin's Skuntank, and causing him to spray TOXIC musk. It took Zuh, her Pidgeot, swooping in and clearing the musk away with a TWISTER to calm the Pokémon down.

Starr gave off more warm vibes to Miyako's mind before closing the psychic link and letting her slide to her feet. "Told you she doesn't mess around!" Shalin teased as Bass Boost, her Seismitoad, hopped toward her after having been displaced by the psychic-type's antics. Perhaps a massage would ease away her pain. "With Joyland having closed, I've wondered how much money I could make turning this place into a Pokémon theme park, heh!" Like she could do that; her job as Petalburg's Captain kept her far too busy for such an ambitious prospect.

Of course, there were far too many obstacles in the way for Shalin to make it a reality. She was no entrepreneur, and funding was tight due to the war effort. "Sadly, my duties as Petalburg's Captain would stop that dream flat. And the city needs me." How much would become apparent when the city found itself cruelly separated from her...

If Miyako was knowledgable of the ground-type amphibian, she may have noticed that the giant frog's saddle was anchored to the four bumps on her back -- one of the very sources of her ground-type attacks' vibrations. "She is, but you have to be really careful of Bass Boost," Shalin cautioned. "She can jump really fast and she's a good swimmer, but you would only be able to experience her full potential with a Sygna Suit." As if to caution Miyako herself, the bumps along the Seismitoad's right fist all began to shake like a motor. Unlike Shalin's bug Pokémon, there was no sound of whirring air or a whipping, flicking tail. Merely the hum of a biological mass shifting fast enough to make noise.

"Maybe if I could get a land grant around Petalburg for it, it would be more successful than it would out in the middle of nowhere like this," Shalin joked, though she had no intent to set up such a gig. An internal one on Ranger property using Petalburg's training facilities, maybe, but not a full-blown amusement park. Too many regulations, too much money, too much maintenance.

Shalin mirrored Miyako's smile as Bass Boost relaxed the guest's pain away. "Just be careful. Without a Sygna Suit, she can turn it up to be a lot more than a massage." As to egg Miyako on, the Seismitoad briefly kicked up the vibrations of all the lumps on her body. For the brief moment it lasted, she may have felt like she was sitting directly on the motor of a motorcycle as it kicked and blasted at maximum revs. Were she able to withstand it, the ground-type would relinquish full control to Miyako.
