it's always a surprise. her parents were surprised, too.[break][break]

"yeah, well," miyako rubs at the back of her neck, trying desperately to cease the wave of sadness that threatens to crash down atop her. "she got involved with rocket, so being an officer sounded like the right choice."[break][break]

when she says it aloud, though, it sounds stupid. joining the force, full of bastards she hates, just to have a better chance at finding her sister? why didn't she just join rocket itself at that point? why didn't she get on a damn plane and never look back?[break][break]

ugh. at least shalin offers an incredible reprieve from the bullshittery of her daily life. hanging out with the ranger in the romping grounds is enough to make miyako forget entirely about her current predicament most days. maybe that's why she's always on the hunt for something harder, faster, stronger—when the adrenaline is pumping in her ears and the wind is blowing past her face, the sorry state of her existence manages to become background noise, a nominal improvement from the usual cacophany.[break][break]

plus, shalin has some damn cool stories. the officer finds herself glancing between shalin and the ultra beasts that cavort alongside them, her jaw dropped.[break][break]

"damn!" she chirps, nodding. "that's cool as hell! how does that work? i didn't even know they hatched from eggs."

Shalin listened to Miyako's curious story of how she became a police officer instead of a Ranger. It was strange; most officers she knew didn't have motivations like that for joining the force. "The Amnesty program exists for a reason," Shalin added, trying to cheer Miyako up. "I'm sure with a little convincing, we can get her back on the right side."

The depressing talk would give way to Shalin recounting another pinnacle of her past. "The Ultra Wilds aren't well-documented, but that's where I found the eggs," she continued. "One of them inside this ruin in Ultra Desert. I wouldn't wish exploring that place on anyone." She was barely able to investigate it, only to find that the entire place could be turned upside down through some alien mechanism. It was too dangerous even for her tastes. "There's a specific energy frequency within the Halls of Origin beneath Sootopolis that's needed to hatch the eggs," she explained as Nymris the Pheromosa twirled about in excitement. "You'd love Nymris a lot. It's too bad you need a Sygna Suit to ride on him at all."

miyako's interest is piqued by the mention of the amnesty program. it's something she's heard of in passing, but never really looked into. "huh," she murmurs thoughtfully, filing the information away for later. if aiko's even still out there, it might be a good option. "maybe i'll look into that."[break][break]

she nods along as shalin explains about the ultra wilds and the halls of origin, her eyes widening at the thought of uncharted territories and undiscovered pokemon. "damn, that sounds like something straight outta a movie," she breathes, shaking her head in disbelief. "i ain't ever been anywhere near a place like that."[break][break]

miyako grimaces slightly at the mention of needing a sygna suit to ride pheromosa, feeling a twinge of envy. "figures," she chuckles dryly, running a hand through her hair. "the cool shit's always just outta reach, huh?"[break][break]

she watches as nymris twirls about, a thoughtful expression on her face. "sooo," she drawls, turning back to shalin with a mischievous grin. "can anyone wear a sygna suit like yours?"

Every location she had been to in gathering the Medallions of Eight felt fictional, though video games rather than movies as sources felt more accurate. "Some of them still exist, such as the Braviary's Nest near Fortree," Shalin explained. "It's a remnant of Hoenn's first bird trainers, from an era before Poké Balls existed. Before I became a Captain, I used to be an expeditionary, and I took people there, among other places, for my livelihood." Ah, the days when her life was simpler than overseeing the well-being of an entire city's ecology...

Shalin had to be ready to disappoint Miyako. She knew what the officer wanted, and she wouldn't be able to grant it in the way she wanted. "With the right materials and the right Pokémon, you could theoretically make a similar Sygna Suit, yes," Shalin answered. "But the suit is powered by Infinity Energy fueled from the bond between trainer and Pokémon reaching its pinnacle." If Miyako put two and two together, she would be able to ascertain that simply wearing Shalin's suit wouldn't bestow its powers upon her.

"I do have a workaround, though," her expression suddenly turned to a grin as Nymris fluttered his wings to try to impress Miyako. "How much time have you spent in the RKS Simulation?"
