it's a pain in the ass to have to make frequent trips like this. if nikola had a choice, they'd spend almost every hour of every day in the submarine, working on their various projects. but they'd also rather not pass out down there because they're not keeping on top of the myriad of health problems they developed thanks to professor thorne's experimentations, so...[break][break]

they're in the waiting room of the clinic with a mask covering the lower half of their face. at the very least they were able to choose a clinic with behind-the-scenes rocket ties so their identity likely won't be leaked. they're reading the news on their phone when they feel something slither over their leg, and react accordingly by flinching and standing up abruptly. is that a... weedle? they wonder, watching the small bug type drop to the ground.[break][break]

then they hear a shriek, and glance up to see the front desk is being positively overrun with weedle. the receptionist is standing with her back to the wall frightened. nikola sighs. "i can never have just a normal day, can i...?" is it worth it, helping out here? they probably won't make their appointment now either way...

the pills shake in their bottle, a paper bag rustling audibly despite being shoved at the bottom of minjun's satchel. he readjusts the strap over his shoulder, making sure to wave goodbye to the old woman who hovered near him at the pharmacy counter (you're much too young for that kind of medicine, don't you think?), but had been very nice to him when he asked about her health and if she needed anything, besides.[break][break]

her answer may have been 'no,' but he still needs to complete his lab work today. it's been more than twelve hours since he started fasting (black coffee only), yet the walk to the nearby clinic stretches the hours into eternities. he opens the door, ready to be greeted by the ordinary, when instead he is greeted with a scream. [break][break]

"...oh," comes a gentle response to the weedle madness inside. many summers spent in a rural town have prepared him for this moment —
this isn't the first time he's seen bug pokemon come and go as they please. [break][break]

still, better to act fast before the weedle get startled and bring out their poison stingers. "are you alright?" he asks to the red-haired stranger standing nearby him. a polite glance coupled with a gleam of curiosity: red like the autumn leaves. minjun smiles softly. [break][break]

then, to the nervous receptionist behind the counter, he says, "it's fine. just don't move or startle them too much. i'll help get them out of the way." his corvisquire is summoned inside of the clinic, while his sawsbuck waits outside the door. time to get to work. [break][break]

there's somebody else here now. or maybe he was here before; nikola wasn't really paying attention, instead flipping through news reports on their phone. they glance at the newcomer, mouth curving into a frown under their mask. "they're just weedle," they say shortly. they quite like bug pokemon, in fact. if they weren't clearly swarming, they'd insist there's no problem to be found here.[break][break]

but they are swarming, which makes them pause. "hold it," they tell minjun abruptly, hands on their hips. "think this through. they're clearly coming from somewhere. there must be a hive nearby." they look around the room, to where the frightened receptionist is frozen behind the desk, between the weedle crawling around, trying to spot something out of place... it's unlikely the hive is in here, or else it would be obvious. they then look up at the ceiling. there, a hole in the wall! "it must be on the roof," they conclude. as if to prove their point, another small weedle squeezes itself through the hole, clambering down the wall.[break][break]

if there's weedle, there's bound to be beedrill. probably better not to piss them off. they pick out a pokeball and summon their shiinotic. "use stun spore on the weedle," they command. "we need to slow them down, not fight them." just like that, they're working together with minjun, whether he likes it or not.
