despite her ambitions, julian is not one for ambition. she tries to stay out of the way of other people, so they'll stay out of hers. it's not the bravest way to exist, she knows, but it's hard to kick the habit. though she's officially listed with the league, she tends to turn down job offers, especially now that rocket is more active. she's stayed far away from the fighting, coasting on small jobs in order to maintain her allegiance. but that's no way to achieve her dream... so tonight, julian's decided to try doing something brave. sure, it's probably going to be an uneventful night, but patrolling the area around the weather institute is one step closer to becoming a gym leader... or something like that. mostly they just wish all this fighting would stop. isn't it annoying, to constantly be at war with other people? The Weather Institute actually had a plethora of valuable data, if you knew what to do with it. And while he wasn't exactly the best at data analytics, he had a whole team of nerds who were. All he had to do was get it for them. It's harder than he expected, but not by much. There's active security sure, and and they wander around the building too but...it's not anything he can't take care of on his own.

The League had to put some kind of security out here, even if the only one that cared was Neon. But the push of new satellites roaming over the battlefield during Sootopolis and Petalburg excited him. It was a short cut for his own ambitions. Satellites and parts and equipment they could reverse engineer for their own purposes, with better materials. He hoped, anyway. There's still the issue of gathering enough materials form the Wilds but that's another problem for another day.

He waits the rounds out, skulking in once the trainer on duty moves in before taking a different route and stepping silently, going up the stairs. It's not like the Space Center in Mossdeep, the research far more mundane but there's still protocols. Like the double passwords ( conveniently left on a sticky note ) and the ID requirement ( conveniently, also left hanging in someone's cubicle ).

Neon's helmet and suit are on lowlight as he quietly tip taps into a desktop computer in a cubicle towards the back on the third floor. As the computer boots up he quickly lowers the brightness and carefully began digging through the paperwork flooding the desk. While moving papers around, helpful or not he couldn't tell, he accidentally knocks something over and it clatters onto the ground. The Beast froze, looking around at the darkness but there's silence. Until the goddamn thing, a big red plastic button, goes

it's shaping up to be a quiet evening as julian hoped. but then there's a noise in the distance, and she freezes. i'm just hearing things, right? she thinks she's in the clear for a couple seconds, and then... THAT WAS EASY. the phrase rings out loud and clear, and julian lets out a terrified groan, dread seizing her. i could just pretend i didn't hear it, or... or... DAMMIT! no, she has to do this. she has to prove she can do this.[break][break]

they race toward the noise and burst onto the scene. there's at least one figure they can see-- two, actually? they don't assess the scene before announcing, "Y-Y-YOU JUST M-MESSED UP BIG TIME, GUY!" the words bursting out before they can stop them. they groan again, this time out of embarrassment, and finally look around the room for real.[break][break]

she freezes. the dread turns to abject fear. "you... w-what are you...?" all her bluster is gone. reality sinks in. she's here now, so there's no backing down, despite how heavy and leaden her body feels.

He redoubles his efforts immediately before grasping at what he needed- the keycard. And from what he knew, this would be enough along with the password stickies conveniently left for him to photograph. He's haphazardly shoving shit into drawers and getting ready to dart out before he heard the loud yell. "Guy...?" he asked about to float above the cubicle separators just to see who the hell was talking to him.

They show their face and he's just staring back. "A 1996 Unovan slasher film." he said, still snippy. This operation might be a bust but maybe he could still get the info he needed if he made it to the lab fast enough. It's not like it was a far walk. He could see the doors beyond the security guard that'd stumbled on him.

Neon lunged for Julian, wanting to take advantage of their shock to aim a hard knee into their stomach. His other hand moves to tries to cover their mouth to muffle the sound. "Sorry girly pop, I need you to go nini." he hissed.

there's a sharp pain in her stomach. her ears ring. for a moment, julian thinks she may have been stabbed, the agony worse than anything she's suffered before. bile rises in her throat, but she manages to keep it down, whimpering behind neon's hand covering her mouth. tears trickle down her cheeks, and julian shudders.[break][break]

cassiopeia the tinkaton sees all this happening, and it enrages her. she raises her massive hammer made of steel parts she'd put together herself and swings it at neon and mint, not holding back. her only goal is to get the two away from julian, whose legs are quivering like she's about to collapse. somewhere at the back of their mind they're aware of how pathetic they must look, and it's the only thing that stops them from checking out of the situation completely.[break][break]
