it doesn’t take long for the Shaymin’s SWEET SCENT to attract their first ghostly encounter. The Coral Pokemon, normally a vibrant pink, drifts into view. Its gray, lifeless color is in great contrast to the burning oranges and red of the Hoenn Autumn leaves falling from the trees.

A malicious aura pulses from its stony horns, a hex, thwarted by the swift action of the Shaymin on Eva’s shoulders. The little pokemon lets out a flurry of MAGICAL LEAVES. The wild pokemon coos in surprise, recoiling at the counter. Eva swiftly throws a safari ball, hoping to take the pokemon home with them.

The Safari ball chimes in victory with the capture of the Galarain Corsola. Eva smiles, scooping up the pokeball to tuck away into the small daypack on her back, “Quick thinking, there Quill. Good job!” the Shaymin coos as it soaks in the compliment.

With the pokemon’s sweet scent at work, another pokemon timidly comes out of the grass, sniffing at the air. At the first sign of Eva and the Shaymin, the shy Fenniken yelps and disappears back into the wild. Eva and Quill carry on with their hike.

In contrast to the Fennikin, a rather playful and curious Pumpkaboo was the next pokemon to appear. Eva nearly jumped out of her skin when the ghostly purple gourd bounded into their path. She was lost in thought, which was never a good place to be when wandering an area with many wild pokemon.

Despite the jump scare, the Pumpkaboo remained, “Well, hello there,” Eva cooed, leaning over to stoop closer to the Pumpkaboo’s level. The ghost twirled in place, fanning out its little frills in delight, “Well aren’t you just marvelous. Care to join us?”

The pokemon cooed happily in response, bouncing along beside them for a good portion of their walk. When it seemed the Pumpkaboo didn’t want to leave, Eva offered a Safari Ball and the ghost accepted.

As she walks, her mind wanders. It’s like meditation but there’s no topic in particular she focuses on, no question she works to answer. She simply lets her mind drift on the gentle breeze.

That is, until she stumbles over a pile of sticks in the pathway. Both she and the Shaymin yelp in surprise. Eva’s arms windmill to catch her balance once more and a few quick steps bring her back upright, “What was-” she turns to see a little Cubone gawking angrily at the pile of sticks. Apparently, he was working on building a little castle . . . or fort? Really it just looked like a -.

“Whoa!” Eva veers left, barely dodging the little guy’s angry BOOMERANG.

“Hey, hey, hey whoa there, buddy. I’m really sor-,” the bone returns and she has to dodge again. The angry ground type lunges forward with a follow up HEADBUTT and Quill intercepts with power SEED FLARE that explodes on impact. The little pokemon is forced back by the super effective attack. Eva wastes no time tossing a SAFARI BALL.

“Phew, that was an exciting few minutes, huh?” Eva grins at the Shaymin trotting at her heels. They both had quite the different ideas of ‘fun’. The little pokemon looks utterly exhausted. They weren’t used to fighting so many battles in a row.

“Tell ya what, there’s just one more pokemon we’re looking for then you can relax in the bright sun, ok?” She scoops up the Safari ball and tucks it into a pocket with the others. Quill seems to accept the deal and climbs back up onto the professor’s shoulders.

It’s not long before they spot their next target. A Joltik with purple eyes and feet sits quietly in their electric web. If you look close enough, you can see the little pale sparks of electricity dancing across the strands.

“Alright, that’s it, go get ‘em!” With a nod, the pokemon leaps from Eva’ shoulder, firing a SEED FLARE to disrupt the arachnid's peaceful afternoon. The wed explodes in a flash of light and the Joltik falls to the ground, startled.

It’s angrily LUNGES forward, SLASHING at the Shaymin. Quill yelps loudly in surprise and pain as it strikes their side. The duo are lost in a flurry of MAGICAL LEAVES which temporarily startles the Joltik. They don’t see the SWEET KISS coming and the Shaymin’s charm sends them into a dizzy confusion. Eva uses this opportunity to try and catch the Joltik with her last Safari Ball.
