Cillian lifts his other hand, the free one, as shadows turn flexing fingers to sharpened claws.[break][break]

"No different than I was."[break][break]

And Temp had worshipped him for it. They couldn't keep their hands off one another. There's guilt in the pit of his stomach that he can't offer Temp that same fervour. Not right now. It wasn't that he didn't find his husband attractive anymore — Temp was beautiful, that hadn't been a lie. But that beauty had been scarred by his own hands, and how could he trust himself?[break][break]

He can't think of words to explain the panic overtaking him. He doesn't have to, for Temp's own anxieties raise themselves in the form of a question that Cillian doesn't even need to think about.[break][break]

"No." It's said with quiet, firm confidence. "When she chose me, it was the first time I didn't feel afraid."[break][break]

He'd felt like he could take on the world. Conquer regions, perhaps even Rocket. He'd felt powerful, fulfilled, worthy. He wishes it could've been the same, for Temp.[break][break]

Even though it had ripped his throat out the night before, Tempest doesn't flinch at the sudden shadowed claws.[break][break]

Yet it is something to think over. Cillian Quinn answers his question and it is much the same answer he was given when he asked it before. When he had been studying these things, trying to scry into where the line between 'human' and 'Avatar' had laid.[break][break]

What would he do with that, now?[break][break]

It is that same research, those same questions asked to so many others, that spring to life when Cillian asks him what.[break][break]

"I don't want to lose who I am."[break][break]

So many past and current Avatars, both Rocket and League, come to mind as he says it. The very core of who they were stripped and ripped away into twisted versions of themselves. Even Cillian wasn't who he was before.[break][break]

He knew why Temp was afraid. Jayden, Elisa, even Cillian himself. Rocket's Avatars often changed in response to their dark powers. But there's a reason behind his confidence.[break][break]

"I chose this."[break][break]

He gestures with his clawed hand.[break][break]

"The changes before, they were manageable, and... I don't think Lugia changed my emotions, really. I think she just loosened the hold that Rocket had put on them."[break][break]

He hadn't always been a quiet, timid grunt. He'd been angry and rebellious and violent, too. He'd attacked Theo. And even before Rocket, he would pick fights at school or, when he was feeling particularly bold, at home with his father. It had taken years of conditioning to rein in that impulsive fury, and Lugia's blessing had burned away some of that control.[break][break]

He was thankful for it, but feels a mixture of sadness and anger as he thinks of his patron, now. How betrayed he'd felt when she'd turned on him at the Border.[break][break]

"I think if you resist, you won't change who you are."

Cillian Quinn makes it seem so easy.[break][break]

Maybe it is. Maybe the megalomania that happened within the hearts of most Avatars were just them twisting themselves into the worst version of themselves. Tempest had already been shaped into that person by his husband's hands. He didn't need some wannabe-god to make him something worse than he already was. Yveltal would not have that sort of grip on him.[break][break]

Tempest had never thought he was weak enough to use Avatarship as a crutch.[break][break]

It was also nice to know that Cillian was still Cillian. Cillian was still a human inside of the shadows that cloaked his shoulders, even if his husband would deny it. If you stripped Lugia's powers away from him he would still be the same man.[break][break]

He would be no less deadly.[break][break]

Tempest would just have to prove he didn't need the overgrown bird to be just as strong.[break][break]

But... there were other concerns, as well....[break][break]

"I also don't want to be her slave." This is said with a bit more heat though not at Cillian. Just a general anger at Yveltal for what she had done to him. They would both also know of Adrian Malcolm's fate when he was trapped with Destruction.

Would Temp die if Yveltal abandoned him? Or would its blessing be enough to preserve his life so long as it wasn't ended anew? The thought troubles him. He doesn't ask, not wanting to upset Temp more.[break][break]

Instead, he makes his peace with the fact that, should Yveltal truly possess him, he will find the strength to do what has to be done. Even if the consequence is great.[break][break]

"Rocket can strip an Avatar of their bond. We've done it before."[break][break]

To Bryan, to Fernando, to Chu-e.[break][break]

"If you stop being you..." Can Cillian really trust himself to make that call, when the first thing he'd done was attack him? I didn't know. But would he know in the future? What Temp needs now, however, is comfort. Not Cillian's own fears amplifying his own. So he says, "or if you ever want it, then we'll take the necessary steps. Okay?"

It does soothe him some, what Cillian Quinn says. Yes, Rocket would never allow a risk to keep hold of powers. They were more than competent enough to subdue Yveltal. Out here, out of her realm of death, she would be weak. It would not be a ragtag group sent to end her- it would be the fury of Rocket on all sides, more than willing to rip her from whatever pedestal she held herself on.[break][break]

Tempest thinks of that thread that connects him to his 'patron'.[break][break]

Mentally he grabs it, jerking it tight. Almost instantly he can feel Death's gaze slide to look at his very being. When he speaks, his voice is firm. This answer is for Cillian, yes, but he says it with a resolute voice meant for the carrion bird trying to bully Lugia off her roost.[break][break]

"Okay." Then. "I won't be some puppet. I don't need her."[break][break]

He feels the coiling flicker of surprise, mixed with something he can't quite place, before Yveltal's weight on his mind shifts away and out of his grasp.[break][break]

It leaves a satisfaction behind.[break][break]

Then the future looms over him and Tempest frowns, deflating some. The exhaustion creeps back.[break][break]

"I should probably tell everyone I'm not, uh, dead. Anymore."

His husband has always been stronger than him, in that way. Cillian can't imagine rescinding the power he's been given, yet he's sure Temp would love nothing more. Temp believes in his own strengths. It's one of the most admirable qualities about him.[break][break]

He can feel the tears burning behind his eyes, looks away and blinks a few times to get them under control.[break][break]

He clears his throat so his voice won't break.[break][break]

"Start with Tulio. In person, please." He thinks that if Sea's Sachem doesn't physically see his son back from the dead, he won't believe it. He remembers grieving together at the funeral. He remembers breaking the news. It had been horrible for the both of them. "Walsh can wait."

Tempest nods, offering a weak smile to the other. He doesn't miss the tears. Pushing himself to his feet with a soft grunt, Tempest only wobbles for a moment from a sudden rush of lightheadedness. He brushes the odd weakness off, just figuring that he's still tired from the whole... ordeal.[break][break]

"I'll head out now. Do you want to come with?"[break][break]

In truth, he would rather not be away from Cillian Quinn right now. At the same time, he understands that his husband might need some more space or to put his own affairs in order or to further process the un-death of his spouse.

Ordinarily, when Cillian is upset, Tempest Quinn is the only person he wants to be around. It's alien to feel the opposite, like his husband's presence is the very thing making him feel so terrible.[break][break]

What if Tulio saw the marks on Temp's neck? What if he realised-[break][break]

But Cillian's emotions aren't the important ones, right now.[break][break]

He squeezes Temp's hand.[break][break]

"If you want me there, of course I'll be there. You just gotta give me a minute to get dressed."[break][break]

He's dressed already, technically, but his clothes are wrinkled and his hair is unkempt. He won't present such an image to the public, not even to Tulio.

"Dad won't care if you show up in rags." It's meant to be reassuring; how accepting that Tulio was of Cillian Quinn and of the people around him in general. He was a much kinder man than many people would expect to be the father of someone like Tempest. [break][break]

In the end tempest shakes his head 'no' and gives a small sigh.[break][break]

"Nah, we're probably just going to cry all over each other. Then we'll have to talk about how to address the Sect..." Tempest trails off, already in thought, a frown tugging at his lips. This whole thing was a headache. Hadn't Cillian said they had a funeral for him? That meant Sky and Earth also thought he was dead, and then that was a whole other can of worms. Telling them would mean admitting to whatever shit had happened with Yveltal, and they probably wouldn't keep it quiet, and then...[break][break]

Ugh, he was getting a headache just thinking about it.[break][break]

"I'll be back later. Do you want me to pick up anything on the way back?" Out of habit (and because he generally graves Cillian's affection), Tempest leans down to try and press a kiss to the corner of the other's lips.
