there's a grave on mt. pyre- one in a more scenic spot, easily accessed while still being out of the way. one that stands alone, in a way, serving as a backdrop against the sky. usually, there's nobody there to visit it.

today there is. kasper sits, head on their knees and wearing a turtleneck and a single ill-fitting glove on their left hand. it's an odd outfit, given the circumstances, but their worst complaint- that it itches- pales in comparison to everything else, lately.

"i caught a basculegion." they find themself saying, in some effort to break the eerie silence and stillness and to ignore their own thoughts. "a shiny one. ivy." as soon as the news leaves their mouth, they're greeted with the same nothingness that seems to only serve as a reminder that they're talking to someone who won't hear them.

but something does. maybe. it casts a dark shadow over them, too fast to be a cloud and obviously not any of their pokemon. and for the first time since they had gotten there, kasper looks up.

Wing-beats drum the air, fog swirling around red and black claws and grave dirt rushing into their eyes to blind them.[break][break]

She lands with a massive rattle of the ground. Yveltal looms over Kasper, cocking her head with displeasure as she folds her wings under herself. Electric blue eyes seem to stare through their very soul.[break][break]

All is still for a few long, heavy moments.[break][break]

"Ugh, just- I know, I know, shut up. We'll be there in a- wah!"[break][break]

The fluff on Yveltal's neck speaks, a human taking vague shape, before seeming to slide off of her back and onto the ground.[break][break]

Tempest Quinn sits where he landed, frowning to himself as he rubs at his tailbone. A quiet grumbling. Golden eyes shoot up, glowing faintly in the dim light, to meet the other living person's. He freezes like a kid in a candy store might before a slow recognition fills him.[break][break]

they know of yveltal. bringer of death, the sort of pokemon their parents told them scary stories about when they wouldn't listen. they had spent more than a few nights waiting for those electric blue eyes to peer in through their window when they had been mean- mostly to their brother- and they had waited for it to follow through on any of their parents' nonexistent threats.

it had never come. until now, twelve years later. kasper looks up and they see the thing of eight-year-old them's nightmares, staring back with the same displeasure they had always imagined. she is still, except for the way her head tilts, and they are still, unsure of if it's shock or the bird pokemon herself that makes everything feel almost heavy with the weight of what's to come.

it's a voice, and then a shape, falling clumsily from her back. a familiar shape, even if it shouldn't be. it shouldn't be, because tempest quinn was dead, and kasper is inclined to believe that whoever this is isn't him. even if whoever wears his face seems to recognize them, disbelief sets in first. "in the flesh."

as soon as they speak, something like defensiveness sinks in, and it's evident in how they sit, their voice, even the way they almost angle themself like they're guarding the tombstone just behind them. in a way, they kind of are. in a way, they don't want whatever this is to see their last name printed at the end.
