"They really are letting anyone join these days, aren't they?" Gavin's disdain toward River is clear as he folds his arms, leaning against an old metal crate and raising his brows. "You're a child."[break][break]

Quite literally, Gavin expected, but in his mannerisms and bravado as well. A child and an idiot.[break][break]

"My Sandslash could cut you in half." Gavin looks pointedly to the sharp metal claws of the icy creature. Sandslash glares at River, but makes no move to attack without an order from its master. "You'd best be careful what you say about it. Your Pokemon assisted, with no input nor direction from you."[break][break]

When asked what they do next, Gavin swings the flashlight around one last time and then directs it toward the entrance. "We leave, and let them know we cleared the place out. And you smarten the fuck up before I tell them how useless you are. That attitude'll get you killed."[break][break]

Though his tone is dry and biting, there's some genuine advice veiled within it: he'd seen what happens to those that step too far over the line.

River furrows his brow, but bites his tongue at the reprimanding he receives. There's nothing he could say to defend himself because Gavin's right. River's intentions for joining Rocket had been personal and selfish. He wasn't here to be strong or help Rocket in any way, he had come here to use them. Of course, why would anyone bother to help some punk kid?[break][break]

It's probably why he was so bitter and angry.[break][break]

Or maybe he had mommy issues.[break][break]

"Um.. I'm 18, actually."[break][break]

He corrects, but his voice barely reaches a whisper as he curses under his breath.[break][break]

At the mention of the Sandslash, and the unfriendly look it offers him, River swallows hard and glances back to Gavin. Would he seriously sick his Pokemon on him? What a psycho.[break][break]

"Doesn't that just mean my Pokemon are smart? They do stuff without being asked."[break][break]

So much for holding his tongue.[break][break]

River flinches at Gavin's last reprimanding, but he says nothing more as the flashlight swings and they head outside. He's lost the energy to fight - the ghost had scared it out of him.

Perhaps too deep a sentiment for an immature teenager, but the words had already left his mouth.[break][break]

River offers no further argument as they shuffle toward the exit to the warehouse, however, and Gavin fully intends to keep the kid's idiocy to himself so long as he gives him no reason to change his mind. Old Rocket were brutal with the way they handled a liability. New Rocket... Gavin isn't sure, and he won't gamble with a life so long as his impressions remain inconsistent.

River frowns, annoyed that he's being reprimanded like some child. [break][break]

"I'm not a child, you stupid old fart."[break][break]

Gavin was right, though, his Pokemon were smart, and it was because they were so smart that he was still here to kick the bucket. They worked harder than he did to keep himself in one piece, and he appreciated that.[break][break]

"It totally is a reflection of self, because they wouldn't be this smart if they didn't have to work so hard. Duh!"

Whatever the scientist is trying to say to him, to reason with him, falls on deaf ears. River doesn't give a shit, he never has.[break][break]

And with a wave of his hand he makes that obvious.[break][break]

"You know what, fuck you and your rules. I'm outta here."[break][break]

As soon as the exit appears and they're safe, River shoves his hands in his pockets and mopes his way back home.
