as a child, marcel had possessed a particular interest in history. his parents, respected trainers who'd wanted him to follow in their footsteps, were none too pleased by this, but entertained him nonetheless. the obligation of parental love. eventually, marcel came to realise importance rested within the present.

Had they simply allowed access to their dig, perhaps the archaeologists in question wouldn't be faced with their two would-be thieves. Gavin might have helped them unearth the very things he was now poised to steal.

Instead, he smirks.

"Then we need to draw them away from those valuable things." Gloved fingers lace together with the sound of shifting fabric. "Did you want to do this subtle, or loud?"

His preference is the former, but Marcel outranks him, so he tilts his head expectantly.

There's a flash of approval in Gavin's eyes before he dips his head in silent acknowledgement.

Perhaps sending out a golden Steelix wasn't exactly the most subtle thing Gavin could have followed up with, but there is a plan in place: she burrows beneath the earth, causing a tremor that vibrates through their feet. Earth closes in around the metallic serpent, who moves beneath them toward the unfortunate dig site.

She does not erupt from the ground, nor snarl, nor cause any other trouble beyond the quiver of the earth. It's just enough to make the archaeologists nervous, enough to have them abandon the site in a hurry and leave valuables behind.

"They'll be back," because it's not like Gavin was looking to destroy the site, "but we've got time. There was another dig site got tore up by a Steelix not long ago, no doubt it's got them anxious."

a smile comes to marcel's face as they scatter. "perfect."

he makes the first move towards the site. his footsteps are light, as to not disturb the pit's framework. "vega, keep watch." his noivern kicks off into the air, ready to sound the alarm the moment the archaeologists returned.

titan floats beside him, crackling with the effects of magnet rise. marcel sorts through the debris with the help his pokemon's psychic, comparing each item with the mental images he has stored. someone had been kind enough to provide a list of artefacts to look out for. some stones float into the bag he has ready.

something to the side catches his attention. a group of geodude and gravelers are approaching the site. "shit." should they get too close, they'd almost certainly damage their loot.

Trusting in Marcel's Noivern to keep watch, Gavin's fingers uncurl from his Crobat's pokeball. Instead, he palms another capsule and directs his attention to the encroaching horde of rocks.

Gavin's Golisopod is taller than the man himself, clicking its pincers as it's released. Gavin utilizes hand-gestures to direct his Pokemon silently, for the most part, but this requires precision.

"Rock Smash," he orders, pointing.

Chitin plates slide against one another as the Golisopod scuttles toward its prey and breaks them apart with an unsettling glee.

Noivern lands, and Gavin purses his lips in a dissatisfied frown. Already? There were so many things of potential value scattered about, but... Gavin sighs. Marcel's right, they don't have the time to cherry-pick their takings beyond the list that his fellow Rocket had brought.

Gavin's sure to snag a couple fossilized something-or-others; even his trained eye wasn't sharp enough to tell what they were at a glance, but he hoped to find something of value. In spite of their rush, Gavin still handles the various artifacts with a gentle touch.

Golisopod lets out a series of soft clicks. Gavin can't understand the creature, but he knows it to be agitated.

"That's all the time we have, we've gotta go."
