[attr="class","spiral"] Fernando doesn't give a flying fuck about the Luvdisc. They're uesless in battle and their only purpose is to remain at the bottom of the food-chain to provide nourishment for the others that lurk beneath Hoenn's depths. His true purpose in exploring the ocean is to trace down the energy source that his Tapu Fini seems irreversibly attracted to.

At first, he considered it a part of the Pokemon's migratory route but over time he's learned that it seems to feed off Hoennianic ley lines. Whatever the energy is, it seems to sustain the Tapu's ability to use its Z-MOVE. Aside from these fragments of information, Fernando's left in the dark. That's why he enlists the help of Lucas Lane, Hoenn's head scientist and the person most capable of deciphering the odd nature of Fernando's Legendary Pokemon.

Donned in scuba gear, Fernando wades deeper into the ocean's depths with his Tapu Fini circling around him. Rather than expose herself to the open elements, it remains withdrawn into its pointed shell. Much like Lucas' submarine, it pierces the current with its aerodynamic design, homing toward a glittering light buried deep within the ocean's sandy floor.

Unfortunately, a school of Luvdisc seem to swarm their target.

"You see that, Lane?"

Lucas could make out a glittering light between the swarming school of Luvdisc. "Barely. Do you think you can get the Luvdisc to move without riling them up too much?"[break][break]

The head scientist didn't dare nudge the submarine any closer to investigate. Lest the school turns on him and the councilman. "I can send some pokemon out if you think things will go south."

I can't tell if it'll wait or attack. I can't understand its intentions." Fernando doesn't mention the part where he can't feel out his Pokemon most of the time. Even compared to his own masks, the Pokemon demonstrates a perpetual state of being deadpan, cold, apathetic, and borderline robotic.

"Have them ready just in case."

"I'm no mind reader but wouldn't Tapu Fini avoid attacking when you're going in? I can't imagine it wanting to hurt you."[break][break]

Lucas pulls several pokeballs out of a bag and loads them into a narrow shaft within the submarine. They join the two pokeballs he'd readied at the pair's launch. At the press of a button he'd be able to eject the pokemon outside the submarine.[break][break]

"Well my pokeballs are loaded. Whenever you're ready Fernando."

Sound is muffled underwater but the impact of the Barraskewda is felt by all three. Fernando looks back at the submarine just in time to catch the lingering sight of the Pokemon reeling back for another go. All it takes is one wrong impact to puncture the hull and send Lucas to a watery grave.

"BLIZZARD! Freeze it!" Silph's concern for Hoenn's (let's be real) only head scientist eclipses his natural calmness behind most incidence. In this environment one wrong move can spell disaster so his instinct is to give them a bigger window to operate in.

The Tapu Fini obeys and releases a torrent of cold air. It reacts to the water immediately, creating a path of solid ice that starts to spread uncontrollably. The ocean water around it keeps the chill at bay but it does snake forward until it encases the Pokemon and the impacted portion of the submarine. They're stuck there for now but considering their environment, the ice won't last long.

Lucas reels the submarine backwards when the barraskewda attacks. Taking a hand off the controls he smashes the eject button for the pokeballs he'd loaded. A slip opens towards the front of the submarine. It illuminates the water with a flash of red light as an omanyte materializes.

The prehistoric pokemon's appearance was too slow to be of any help. Tapu Fini's blizzard encased the water type faster than the head scientist could even react.

"You think it's done for?" Lucas' words came out faster than the legendary's attack. "You want more pokemon?" His heart races as his hand hovers over the button to eject pokemon.

[attr="class","spiral"] Once the Pokemon becomes motionless, Fernando feels his sense of panic subside. Sweat permeates underneath his skintight diving suit and he blinks a few times to keep them off his lashes.

"You okay Lane?"

There's nothing they can do about the Barraskewda. Leaving it to thaw will only bite them in the ass. Ending it would be preferred but the carcass might attract Sharpedo. The only real answer is to capture it and Fernando reaches for a spare Pokeball.

"Any leaks on the ship?"

He waits for the ice to melt from the salt water a bit more to allow the Pokeball to reach it. He'll wait for now, throwing it once the ice fades away but not too late so as to let the Pokemon potentially break free.

"Yeah, yeah I'm okay."

Lucas begins to steady his breathing. When Fernando asks about any leaks his concentration broke. Regardless of the dashboard indicating no damage Lucas swivels around in his seat inspects the submarine. Seeing no damage his steadies his breathing.

"No leaks. Everything looks good." He says through the mic. "I'll try and be more careful next time." As the words left his mouth he presses a button to eject his next pokemon.

"Releasing grapploct," Lucas warns.

His reference to the Barraskewda is the closest that Fernando will come to reassuring Lucas that it wasn't his fault. Neither anticipated the wild Pokemon and it's raw speed is a factor that neither can match.

Another Pokemon joins their small party and they continue to approach their objective. The closer they get the easier they can distinguish the object: a blue shard that glows with an unnatural light. The Luvdisc start to disperse once they come too close and his Tapu Fini takes off after the item. Before Fernando can protest the Pokemon pulls the item into its shell, spinning in place as it harvests the energy for itself.

Without warning, the Legendary Pokemon unleashes a HYDRO VORTEX for the first time. It has no intention of harming them but if they don't back off they're due to be caught up in the sudden change in currents.

"Lane!"

Fernando retreats as fast as he can, more worried about his companion who's vehicle has already taken damage.

As they continue to delve further Lucas illuminates the way with lights from the submarine. The lights illuminate the blue shard for a moment before Tapu Fini takes it & Lucas can take a look.

"Fernando tell the Tapu-" before Lucas can finish he's cut off by an abrupt attack from the legendary. Warnings begin to go off within the submarine as the water vortex rages. Lucas attempts to guide the submarine away from the legendary but is too slow. He finds the submarine being dragged towards the raging vortex.

"Control your pokemon!" Lucas barks over the intercom as the submarine smashes into rocks. More warnings begin to go off within the submarine as it takes damage to the hull. "Submarines taking damage!"

Fernando's worries foreshadow their impending doom. He can barely turn as the vortex sucks him in. The pokeball from earlier becomes a miniature torpedo and Fernando reaches out for it. Against the raging tides, he barely snags the ball in time to pop it open.

"Attack!"

The Barraskewda from earlier is a complete wild card. He has no idea what moves or abilities it has but considering what it did to the submarine, it's their only chance at dissipating the Tapu Fini's attack. Thankfully, the Barraskewda's PROPELLER TAIL allows it to cut through the water seamlessly, looking to pierce Tapu Fini's shell with a decisive NIGHT SLASH.

"Whatever it picked up triggered it."

Fernando tries to open another pokeball and lucks out when it's his Blastoise. It's strong enough to fight against the pressure and Fernando commands it to assist with Lucas' submarine.

"Well do something!"

Lucas presses the pokeball button like a kid pushes a doorbell on Halloween. Relentlessly without any concerns of the consequences. Out of the submarine appear a gyarados and carracosta. Carracosta wrenches the surrounding rocks towards the Tapu with ancient power. The gyarados meanwhile beelines towards the target, its mouth agape to bite down when within range.

As the vortex begins to slowly subside grapploct blinks back into existence. It appendages poke out the vertex, outstretched towards the surrounding rocks. When they finally touch they do so at a colossal speed. Grapploct immediately retracts its arm and once again disappears into the vortex. The omanyte meanwhile is retracted into its shell while thrown about the vortex.

"Can't you say anything to it?" Lucas is beginning to think the legendary is more beast than man after all. "We can't fight forever!"

Fernando doesn't voice his thoughts aloud. There's no point. He's too busy trying to swim away while directing his Pokemon. While his concern for Lucas weighs heavy on his conscious, his own safety comes first.

"Don't let up!"

Tapu Fini doesn't have too much trouble handling the Barraskewda. It's PROTECT comes up just in the nick of time. The fish only marginally misses the target and it ends up being deflected, thrown back by the sudden impact. It is Lucas' Pokemon that time their attacks properly. The barrier fades and the ANCIENT POWER pelts the Legendary's shell repeatedly. The Gyarados land the critical blow that knock Tapu Fini back to it senses.

It seems to calm down. It's SELF-DESTRUCTIVE tendencies have died down for now.
