The moment he spawns into the PvP zone, Orion is on edge. Not every player is out for blood, some just appreciating the thrill of the unknown, but he still finds himself doing whatever he can do stay out of sight. This was a horrible idea. Why was he doing this?[break][break]

Right. In-game currency, the all-important risk-reward.[break][break]

The air shimmers next to him as someone spawns in next to him, and he breathes a sigh of relief when he sees the now-familiar long green hair of his mission partner. It's not as if he was expecting someone else, but he was stressing, OK?[break][break]

"So we just need to get the egg from here to Valora." It looks impossibly far away, situated across the numerous sky-bridges no doubt teeming with player-killing assholes waiting to strike. The mission was widespread knowledge, after all. "Easy, right? Arceus, I'm glad you're a healer."

This was a mistake. A huge, very big, very bad mistake. Why had she agreed to participate in one of the games most dangerous quests? She was a healer, and a pacifist at that. She didn't fight.[break][break]

But she had bumped into the avatar that her friend Orion Lykos was masquerading as, and he had mentioned this specific mission to her. Against her better judgement she had agreed. After all, it involved the safe passage of an egg across dangerous territory. How could she possibly say no to ensuring the safety of an unborn Pokemon?[break][break]

Short answer: she couldn't. [break][break]

So when she shimmers into existence beside Orion's avatar, the woman swallows hard and grips her staff a little tighter. Because they had accepted the quest together as a party, there was only the one egg between them, and Avery had carefully tucked it away into her bag. Of course, it had turned into a mess or pixels and code, but she was still protective.[break][break]

[attr="class","spiral"] They are not alone. Someone else spawns into the PVP zone and Fernando appears not too far from the three of them. He stares at them for a moment, idle, smiling as if he means no harm. In reality, he takes this time too stare at both of them and try to guess their class and abilities.

While avatars tend to point toward a class, the system's customization allows user to look the opposite of what they should be.

However, eventually he sees Avery's staff and guess that she's a Mage. He's wrong, but the outcome is the same. Eliminate the long ranged support first.

He pulls out his pistol and fires a ZAP CANNON at her.

he stays out of sight, abusing range against them. hunting players down seems like a popular past time, which he found himself participating in.

there were two targets for the pair of rangers. none of them seemed to be of melee range, and when it comes to a war of attrition, his long reach would prove to get them to an advantage against other ranged characters.

he draws the string of his bow, enchanting the arrow with nuzzle. he aims at the person beside the mage, following the game plan. he aims carefully, and then takes his shot.

Orion chuckles nervously at Avery's words. "Same."[break][break]

Of course, as it so happened, that was the exact moment that they were disturbed by the spawning of another player nearby. He seems to be relatively idle and not aggressive, but Orion's hyper-cautious approach demands he keep an eye on the figure.[break][break]

It happens so quickly: one moment, they're simply standing there, and the next they've whipped out a gun and shot at his friend. Orion yelps in alarm, not even noticing the other player lurking in the wings until an arrow embeds itself in his shoulder and he feels a numbing jolt of electricity spread through his limbs.[break][break]

He grits his teeth against the pain, swears under his breath.[break][break]

Though he can feel the onset of paralysis threatening to immobilize him, he does his best to overcome it in an attempt to fight back against the attacker he can see. Ghostly energy swirls around the tip of an arrow that's promptly aimed at the pistol-wielding character, firing off a spirit shackle to pin him in place, make him an easier target.[break][break]

Yep, she was right, this was a mistake.[break][break]

Just as soon as she utters those words, she knew she'd jinxed herself. Two strangers appear out of nowhere and, while at first they seem aloof and indifferent to them, she knows in her gut that they're up to no good.[break][break]

And then she sees the man's gun fit in his hand so perfectly, sees the muzzle of it flash as a ZAP CANNON is shot directly at her. She squeals in surprise and fear, automatically raising her staff to hopefully catch the electric attack and discharge it into the ground to protect her.[break][break]

The shock tickles her fingers, and she releases her two-hold grip in exchange for just one hand, wincing. And then the woman glances at her friend and gasps in horror at the arrow she sees embedded in his shoulder. Her hand rises to remove it, unsure what it is she should do, she starts to tear up. This was absolutely not what she had signed up for.[break][break]

"Please! We're just trying to get this egg to Valora safely!"[break][break]

Was she about to beg for her life? Probably.[break][break]

[attr="class","spiral"] The ZAP CANNON strike true however Avery's timely block dispels the attack straight into the ground. Fernando's astounded that she managed to block the attack with just her staff but he attribute the phenomenon to a perfect 'parry'. Interesting. He hadn't explored combat to that level of depth and he's unsure if the move is intentional or just lucky. Regardless, he aims for another follow-up shot.

Orion SPIRIT SHACKLE hits him square in his shoulder and Fernando finds his feet rooted in place. A status condition text-box appears above hit, denoting that he cannot escape outside of Orion's range, and Fernando ignores it. He can't flee but he doesn't have to; his focus had been to kill and chase.

"This'a PVP zone." He lines the barrel of his gun back onto Avery's figure. "Pay the toll and we'll letcha pass. Fifty Metal Coats or four hundred experience points." He still pulls the trigger though.

the contractions fernando uses amuses kyle. it differs greatly from his usual image of being the formal politician he is supposed to be, earning a muffled chuckle from the archer hidden from plain sight.

he draws another arrow, aims it at the opposing ranger, and misses narrowly on his face. the arrow flies in a way that the tailwind ruffles his hair slightly, with the arrowhead grazing against his hair.

this was a warning shot, he supposed.

kyle lets fernando do the talking, providing support from afar with threats of snipe shots. the mage seems submissive enough for him to focus his attention to the one who tried to fight back.

Avery manages to deflect the Zap Cannon, but Orion's relief is short-lived. Though he's able to pin down the closer ranger, another arrow flies dangerously close to his face and his muscles tense, his grip tight on the controllers.[break][break]

Though the ranger with his pistol trained on Avery claims they'll have mercy if a toll is paid, the fact that he fires right after leaves Orion unconvinced.[break][break]

Having turned his attention to the direction where the missed shot had fired from, he spots the other offender. Far away enough that it'd hopefully take some time for him to catch up, and the closer one couldn't give chase outside of Orion's range...[break][break]

"Go," he says to Avery, "I'll cover you."[break][break]

It'll mean his death, but his urge to protect extends from reality and into the game. Besides, Avery's the one with the egg. If he can keep these guys distracted for long enough to give her distance...[break][break]

Seeing as the ranger in front of him seemed to use a lot of electricity, he holds off on using his own electric-type attack and instead fires off another Spirit Shackle at FERNANDO SILPH, relying on his STAB bonus.[break][break]

The electricty disperses into the ground, and, while her fingers feel tingly, the sensation soon fades. Of course, their disagreement isn't over yet, and she feels panic rise in her throat. The stranger announces mercy in exchange for goods, but Avery is at a loss. She has nothing to give, and to be honest, she probably shouldn't even be in this dangerous territory. [break][break]

She wasn't a fighter and had quickly discovered that all of her moves she'd chosen were purely defensive. She couldn't fight back, she could only protect or heal her party.[break][break]

And now she was in grave danger of being shot at a second time, and this time the bullet flew much faster and with more ferocity.[break][break]

Orion urges her to run ahead, ensuring that he would cover her. But could he, really? Two against one wasn't fair, right?[break][break]

But she follows his command and soldiers on, racing as fast as she can. She looks ridiculous.[break][break]

Her hand automatically displays a flourish of energy however, as her HEALER ability kicks in. She makes the impulsive attempt to cure Orion's paralysis in her flight.[break][break]

The bullet meets its target, embedding itself in her shoulder as she runs. She cries out, feeling the paralysis take effect immediately. In response, if her muscles could work and her staff proved useful, she'd spray LIFE DEW to heal herself and Orion.[break][break]

Fernando prepares his secondary ammo type and takes the SPIRIT SHACKLE straight in the chest. It feels like a punch to the gut but he's already mid animation for swapping, bearing it with a grunt. He knows better than to try a Ranger's attack, being one himself, and he figures that Orion is simply looking to chip him down. Why else would he use the same status effect twice?

A CHATTER shot leaves the chamber of his pistol and it looks to explode within Avery's vicinity. The sound waves spread upon impact and sometimes Fernando can hit a legendary two for one special.

CONFUSION ROLL:

If CONFUSION lands between 0-100, CHATTER will confuse.

I'll let you guys decide how you want to apply AOE attacks. I'm fine with them being applied based off TRIPLE / DOUBLE battle rules or to just have them be single target attacks.

they could have backed off, but the other ranger decides to fight back. kyle grumbles. this would have been much more easier if they didn't continue to engage in combat.

kyle wonders when people will learn to just log off when pk-ers camp them and just play a few minutes later to resume their quest. then again, maybe it just wasn't common practice for normies.

another arrow flies across, heading towards orion. unlike the earlier one, the attack is much more potent and is recognizable among the dull colors of the scenery with how bright the sparks coursing through it were.

this time, the attack was intended to hit. bolt beak tries to find its target, growing more on power as soon as orion's skill goes on cooldown.

That was Orion's number one priority, and as of right now, he was failing spectacularly. She's weakened and paralyzed and struggling to escape, and he's not doing much better.[break][break]

Having never been much of a gamer, it doesn't occur to him that he can log out and deny them their prize. Instead, he commits to his goal of protecting the healer until she's created enough of a gap between them that she'll make it to Valora even if Orion falls and the Spirit Shackle fades.[break][break]

kyle lopez's Bolt Beak strikes true, electricity aggravating his already paralyzed limbs. Arceus, this sucked.[break][break]

Doing his best to fight through it, he infuses one of his arrows with electricity and aims it at the Chatter-infused shot. If it worked, he could neutralize the attack. If it didn't, it might backfire on him, likely sealing his fate.[break][break]

The pistol-wielding man fires a CHATTER at her as she's picking herself back up off the floor. Paralysis was a hell of a drug and it had knocked her flat on her face just a moment ago. Tears stream down her face as fear takes hold - she's never died before. What would it feel like? She's already hurting.[break][break]

She cries out in fear as the CHATTER breaks her concentration. She's immediately dazed and confused, stumbling from one side to the other as she covers her ears. Everyone's voices are echoing, she's seeing double, and she can't find her staff.[break][break]

Which way was she supposed to be running, again?[break][break]

In her state of hysteria, she runs back toward Orion, which probably would have thrown off the second ranger had her dodge roll not been switched to a critical fail. aaaaaaa's attack hits her square in the chest and she comes to a halt, panic freezing her face into place as the last bit of her HP drains away to a fleck of red. It's flashing, her screen is flashing.[break][break]
