as the snow crunches underneath their feet, noah is reminded of the outpost. the winter winds in this mountain range carry that memory through the simulated cold. but it's too difficult to focus on sentimentality.

noah's busy slashing away at mobs. after cutting a vanillite in two, he turns back to kyle. breaths plume out into white bouquets as he sheathes his sword.

"not a bad place to level, right? even though you're like... i dunno how many levels ahead of me you are." noah smiles self-consciously as he combs his brown hair of snowflakes.

he reuses his level one bow to try to gimp his damage as much as possible to allow noah to pick off the easier targets in the area. it takes him two to three hits to completely knock out a common mob, which was a good margin in case his attack critically hits.

"yeah, yeah. just keep attacking. i want to bring you somewhere else when you're at a higher level."

kyle attracts mobs one by one with each arrow, getting them aggro'd towards him and getting noah to take over for the kill. he rests on a jutted rock with a suitable ledge to sit on, never budging from his position since they started the grind.

he takes a gander of the surroundings. maybe they should move soon since they've pretty much thinned out the mobs in the area. he lets noah pick off the last of them before he decides to finally stand again.

an arrow strikes against a spheal. like a punctured inflatable beach ball, it wails hissing air. noah shoots kyle his own kyle grin: brilliantly wide and accompanied by a noah thumb's up.

the spheal waddles toward 'aaaaaaa' as noah prepares himself. its face is intent, ferocious. a charging tauros with nubs for legs. noah can't help but laugh as it passes by him, aggroed by another.

"watch this, man!" noah strikes a pose, brandishing his sword like a spire defying the sun. rocks materialize around the blade before he swings the steel downward, clobbering the spheal into nothing.

Above him, the skill declares its name: "ROCK WRECKER". noah stays in that pose, stiff and unmoving. recharge time.

"kind of overkill. i feel bad for it, haha." noah's arms slowly begin to loosen. "ever feel the same way about your challengers?"

in the near distance, over a snowy slope, a sealeo, aggroed by the death of a spheal, begins to dive toward them with ICE BALLS.

kyle sees the sealeo charge towards noah, who had unwillingly put himself in a position where he cannot move. kyle grumbles as he stands up from his position, balancing himself atop of a rock and readies an attack.

"yeah. why else do you think i don't bring my elite team on challenges?"

the bolt beak obliterates the sealeo even with the weaker weapon. the spheal surrounding it join the obliteration as well should they be within the blast radius of the attack. those that don't keep on going after noah.

he only counts a few left. kyle chips them with an attack each, letting noah take care of them once he get out of the recharge period.

"have you seen my ninetales or my tyranitar in action? yeah, i kinda miss using them."

a tendril of electricity haunts the field with its terrible light. the sealeo's cry is muted by the crack of thunder as the mob disappears, leaving small loot.

"you got a point there... ack!" the mob of remaining spheal begin to slap their flappers against him. they strike so hard they could fly.

as noah's health bar begins to deplete, his armours show signs of wear and tear. noah's clothing tears and his plates are dealt dents and scuff marks.

"dude, i can't... move... yet!" he speaks too soon. as noah breaks free of his self-imposed shackles, he clears the rest of the mobs with a frenzied pattern of slashing.

with his avatar's brown locks in tangled disarray, noah pants and seeks a health potion to glug.

"why does this move have a dumb recharge time?"

he'd rescue him from the predicament he was in, but the show just gets him entranced with every tear his clothing gets. he freezes, answering noah's question blankly.

"so i can enjoy the view."

he sees a vanillish approach them, thawing out immediately to take care of it. it gets sniped promptly with bolt beak since they mostly have ranged, special attacks instead of physical ones that can damage noah's armor.

the vanilish erupts into pixels. kyle goes back to watching noah get bodied by the spheals and their flappers.

"i see how you're attracted to me now. do you want me to get the dogs to tear off my clothes?"

"hah, who's the narcissistic one now?" noah hollers through battle.

he lunges forth with a deft swing of his sword, baring his clenched whites like daggers as he cleaves through the next vanillish. it takes a few more strikes before the pokemon bursts into an icy shroud of pixels.

"why do i need the dogs when i can just do this?"

noah reaches underneath his shirt. his hand forms a traveling lump underneath the torn fabric of his armour as he conspicuously shows the trail of his self groping.

"almost as good as the real thing." noah laughs, scooping up their shared loot.

he goes back from his seat, finding it a more comfortable position than standing on a rock. while his body does not feel fatigue in the vr world, habit pushes him back to energy conservation mode.

"can't call me a narcissist if even you agree that i'm factually a work of art."

his mouth opens agape as he watches noah start to become indecent once more. his hand scrapes snow from the top of the rock he was sitting on, forming it into a ball, and then chucking it to noah's face.

"you're getting weird again! don't do that. i don't like people getting the image of me touching myself."

there was a pause before kyle adds one more thing.

"that's hot though. do that at home when you're not wearing my face."

a work of art. noah would have laughed if it weren't for the fact that kyle's self-serving statement was absolutely true. at least to noah, despite the handsome appearance of his boyfriend's avatar, nothing compared to the real deal.

"when you say that do you mean to it to me? or do it to you?" noah says, smiling like some know-it-all who frankly, does not know much of anything. "'cause y'know, me being you and all."

his voice tapers off into a swift inhale. noah charges toward kyle, his sword raised like a heraldic flag. snow kicks up behind him as he hollers, "behind!"

a couple of beartics roar and announce their sudden appearance. the random number generator had been unkind and had spawned them on top of the elite four. one makes its wintry advance, sharp icicles materializing from its paws.

noah darts past kyle, striking a bear across the gut with his blade. the animation is canceled. with a harsh growl, the beartic stumbles back to its partner as noah angles his sword toward it.

despite being a ranged class, kyle takes the hit rather well. he looks at the beartic straight in the eyes as one of them hits him with an icicle crash. kyle doesn't flinch cause he received enough beating to get used to the sensation of getting hit but not being in pain.

kyle ignores the beartic as he turns to see noah do his best to protect his overleveled character from a mob. even with the ice-type attacking him from behind, kyle claps his hand once as he exclaims "cute!"

it's only then that he turns around and draws his bowstring to attack the beartic. one bolt beak throws it off of him. another finally kills it.

"how much do you need for the next level?" kyle inquires after the kill.
