a gengar was far more interesting, admittedly. gavin was doing katherine a favor. one she needed - as she still had some steam to let off over dying for the fifth time in that damn honedge quest. not a single person in the server has managed to pull the sword yet, which was slightly comforting, but less so since kat was one of them. she wanted to have that loot. more than this mob, more than the highest rank in the leader boards - more than anything else in this silly game. in fact, it might just be the thing she'd quit after accomplishing.

"thanks!" as soon as the gastly was assaulted by gavin, the gengar shifted its attention to katherine. as if guessing that she was his opponent - and that the first move needed to be his rather than hers. not bad for a mob. its red eyes flashed before kat, an image of them imprinted in her mind. time felt slower, as if a tick of a clock now took twice as time to happen. her eyes felt heavier, as if it was her time to sleep and...

fuck. she actually nearly fell for this, didn't she? the mage snapped out of the trance the gengar nearly put her through, swaying her head from side to side. ice magic charged at the palms of her hands, collecting and amassing more of it until it was fully prepared - and then it shot all at once, and a beam struck the ghost type. pushed aback, the gengar was fortunate enough to not freeze solid then and there, but the battle wasn't over yet.

in fact, a pop-up message of the system alerted katherine of the spawn's ability, making it so her ice beam is now disabled for a period of time.

"not bad, not bad. it puts up a better fight than most mobs." the damage it suffered caused anger to build inside the virtual pokemon, driving him to gather shadows in his hands. it prepared to assault the mage with a sphere of them. "not so fast!" just as it seemed to be ready, kat firmly grasped at her wand and used psychic to shove the gengar into its own attack - causing it to finally faint.
