What does it mean? Was it some arbitrary title given to a lucky player that had managed to pull out the Honedge in Valora? Reason and logic reinforce what Fernando already knows but the world within the game implies anything but. By the time he returns to Pugilis the city is already adorn in banners that reflect his weapon: his flintlock pistol. The civilians cheer his name and tales of his endeavors are chanted in every tavern and inn.

It's unsettling in a way but Fernando reminds himself that it's just a game and preemptive programming.

'1vs1 me. pugilis arena.'

Fernando pays the message no mind and goes about his business. Neither a person nor a game could force him to stray from his own agenda. Before all else, he serves only one person: himself. The slew of new buffs blessed by his appointment as KING scrolls across his character screen while he navigates his own skill points and equipment. He's acquired much during his play time and it's about time to upgrade accordingly. Only when he finishes does he notice that a new quest appears.

'SECRET QUEST: DUTY OF THE KING!'

Naturally Fernando accepts. Regret comes all too soon.

'DUTY OF THE KING: Eliminate all who slander the King within his Domain. Your reputation within the Kingdom will rise and fall according to your success. This quest is repeatable.'

Another layer of responsibilities with an unknown gain. Fernando sneers before turning for the PVP Arena. He had paid little attention to the name attached and figured it was just another care bear upset from dying at his hands out in the wilderness.

When he enters the PVP Arena, a stream of NPC characters start to fill the coliseum and applaud his entrance.

"It's the KING!"

"Defeat all challengers! Destroy her!"

"It's the KING of PVP!"

"Long live the KING!"

"Glory to the KING!"

The jeering is just as loud and what was a quiet space becomes deafening. Fernando can barely hear himself think and the realism behind it is astounding, not unlike the many ceremonial battles held in Hoenn. If only trainers had this level of enthusiasm outside of a video game.

He stands on one end of the arena and the duel prompt asks if he would like to participate. Nothing happens until he accepts. He takes a moment to peer over the barred gate and smiles inwardly, more than confident in dispatching his opponent. He may have lost in the past but that was before he understood the game mechanics at large. There wouldn't be any summons timing out or a lack of PP. Fernando's embedded his time into the game and he knows it well.

'l0l back again?'

He does one last final check over his equipment and move pool before accepting. The gate opens and it gives him a grace period of invulnerability until he's inside and ready for combat. Aside from the buffs, his new status of KING modifies his player card and visual effects. Electricity crackles from his body and radiates like a sporadic cape. His crown glimmers against the tirade of yellow lights and his hair stands on end due to the static.

[attr="class","spiral"] Both of their attack patterns are telegraphed quite well. The ticking timer makes it evident that both intend on attacking the moment the system allows them to.

An icicle descends from above and Fernando reacts immediately. His gun temporarily leaves Katherine and turns to face her attack as he points his arm upward. ZAP CANNON erupts from the muzzle when he pulls the trigger and it looks to shatter her attack, piercing straight through it.

[attr="class","spiral"] Tch. Her magic has improved. The attack power behind the ICICLE CRASH surpasses his assumption and Fernando recalculates her level. He hadn't expected anyone to be anywhere close to his own so his judgement is skewered when he expect his to outright overwhelm hers. Oh well, that's just a minor set back.

"So the buff is only that much, huh?"

Fernando speaks to himself, unconcerned with banter. This is his first test trial of his suppose KINGSHIP and he's yet to understand the depths of how far the buff extend. It's not enough, apparently, so he shift to his default battle routine.

An ICE BEAM hits his chest and he ignores it in lieu of firing off his own attack. The crowd goes wild in cheers as the fight starts to escalate but even the crowd cannot overshadow the sound of his ZAP CANNON.

[attr="class","spiral"] That's all that he needs. The first ZAP CANNON sets the tempo and as long as he can sustain himself then the game is his. Fernando does a bit of mental math while his ammo type changes. Rather than fire, he summons his spirit. It appears above him and the wind visible manifest around him. It takes him a moment to cast and it tries to shield him from the attack by displacing several AIR SLASHES out in all directions.

[attr="class","spiral"] Katherine knows the routine well and nothing has changed. Fernando braves the flames for a chance to follow up with his secondary status effect: CONFUSION.

This time however the winds of his summon manifest around him. There's no point in swapping ammo types when he has another medium to use. The winds whirl around the barrel of his pistol and when he fires they launch forward in a sudden gust, expanding until they get close enough to detect her avatar. Only then will they explode in a loud CHATTER, deafening enough to CONFUSE even the most grounded individuals.
