A psychic-type is a dangerous first contender, and Gavin's reflexive activation of Baneful Bunker is only enough to save him from a crippling psychic blast. It's not a contact move, however, and doesn't poison the bird; he resorts to Toxic Thread for that, firing a sticky web from the hilt of one of his blades. It catches on the bird's wings and slows its descent. He thinks he'll be in the clear so long as he plays defensive, but the rogue discovers with alarm that he's been poisoned, as well.[break][break]

"Synchronize... damn it..."[break][break]

Pain makes his movements more sluggish, and he's hit by an air slash as a result. He takes advantage of the sudden close proximity to leech some life from the Xatu, restoring his health a decent amount.[break][break]

It teleports out of reach, but that can't save it from Gavin's Venoshock.

Golbat proves an interesting opponent; they are equally ineffective against one another, and the creature's mean look traps Gavin as effectively as his Shadow Tag prevented its escape.[break][break]

Gavin's poisoned, flagging, and not quite quick enough to dodge its fangs. It leeches life from him, backing off with an irate shriek when he counters it with the same. An air slash is blocked by a quick activation of baneful bunker, but the bat is unaffected by the status condition. Gavin's health slowly but steadily decreases.[break][break]

Cursing under his breath, he hits it with a dark pulse and dodges another air slash, breathing hard.[break][break]

Then, a stroke of luck: a flaw in AI programming leads it to try its mean look again, the failed move giving Gavin all the opening he needs to finish it off.

Poison sets a clear time limit on his training session: he's only got a spawn or two left in him.
