He didn’t know what was taking them so long to send out his Charizard into the storm.[break][break]

What’s taking them so long?! He thought frantically as he looked around. He noticed that Gabriel was flying at a much slower speed now, and he knew that the cold was getting to the draconid.[break][break]

Come on, hurry up… he thought desperately. Even his ears were starting to play tricks on him. All he could hear was the howling snow—maybe his few Ice-types had done their job a little too well?[break][break]

He could only guess where the other man was hiding in the snowstorm. Had the Salamence not flicked his tail a few seconds later did Alexei think of looking around to see that there was a shape looming behind him—[break][break]

He could only take a good guess as to who it was.[break][break]

“Gabe, move!” he hissed; however the Salamece wasn’t going to take any more of this shit lying down. The draconid refused to move further as he hovered there, growling in Alexei’s direction.[break][break]

“Seriously?” was all he could groan, smacking one of his palms to his face. “Come on, Gabe! We can’t get ourselves caught—”

Wind howls around him, tossing ice and snow into his eyes; it reminds him of home. Once, he'd tried to climb to the top of one of the mountains near Circhester on a dare. It had almost killed him. He'd stumbled down blue and shivering, had taken a verbal lashing from his parents, but it had all been worth it to see the look on his friends' faces. We didn't think you'd actually do it.[break][break]

He does not back down lightly from challenge.[break][break]

Hailstones harass him, hundreds of tiny bullets striking flesh. They clink off Corviknight's metal wings and cause the Galarian crow to screech in anger. That screech, no doubt, would warn Alexei of his presence as they close the gap—[break][break]

—to find dragon and rider suspended in the air, at odds. What luck was this?[break][break]

"Having trouble?"[break][break]

He leans his weight to one side, prompting his Corviknight to bank blindly toward the gym leader. Clenching hard to remain seated, bracing himself with one hand, he reaches out with the other arm in an attempt to tag the protesting Salamence's wing.

Nope, Gabriel was so fucking done with everything at this point in time. The draconid wasn’t listening to Alexei anymore and so they stayed there, hovering in the middle of the ongoing snowstorm. Not until he looked over behind him did he see Patrick reaching out to touch—[break][break]

“Gabe, really?” he grumbled softly as the other had come so close—there was nothing else to it, he had been found. And there was still no sight of the Charizard anywhere![break][break]

Sighing, he then resisted the urge to drag his hands down his face as he saw the steel-colored avian looming beside him. All it took was one hand to bring the entire thing to an end, and he raised his hands in surrender.[break][break]

“You got me there, Mr Cavalli,” he remarked, before pressing the headpiece and giving them instructions to halt the snowstorm. Not only was he soaking wet from earlier, he was also starting to shiver! Yikes. Either way, the snow storm receded before petering out as he flew down to the ground, right as one of the other staff members emerged with a rather… pissy-looking Charizard.[break][break]

“I—will deal with that later,” he remarked as he alighted from the Salamence and unzipped his jacket. Shaking his head to get some stray snowflakes out of it, he shuffled around for a few moments before passing over something small and sparkling.[break][break]

“Admittedly, he would’ve flown better. But I guess, dragons really don’t like ice. Nice flying out there, Patrick. Take it.”[break][break]

Once passed over, he would find himself in the possession of the Skyrider Badge.[break][break]

“Trust and courage. That’s all there is to it. Good luck with your gym challenge.”[break][break]

He had to wonder if his Salamence was being petty, though, because there was an absolutely smug look on the draconid’s face that literally screamed ‘I have served my revenge on you, in the coldest manner possible’. But of course Alexei wouldn’t know any of this.
