Lucas bent down to retie his blue running shoes. He knotted each lace twice over to keep them from coming undone again. As he stood up his baseball hat fell off his head and into the shifting sands.

"Tsk."

Lucas leaned back down and picked up the hat. He brushed the sand off it before putting it back on and continuing his walk.

The cacnea's normally vibrant green skin is sickly. Patches of brown line its shriveled body. It drags its sickly arms through the sand as it approaches the scientist. Up close Lucas can see most of the cactus pokemon's needles had fallen away, with only the largest managing to cling to the shriveled body.

"Oh poor thing," Lucas says aloud. Kneeling down he brings his backpack to the ground and pulls out a water bottle and his lunch. He takes the lid and places it upside down on the sand. Then he unscrews the cap of the bottle and pours a steady stream of water into the bowl shaped lid. Standing up Lucas takes several steps back to allow the dehydrated cacnea to drink its fill.

After the cacnea drank its fill Lucas steadily approaches with an empty pokeball in hand.
