Caius stood in silence at the water’s edge, intently staring at the cobalt blue water with the silent hope that his prayers would be answered. Overhead a flock of Wingull flew in circles, chanting their ‘ha-ha-ha’ like calls. They were almost like a audience to the brawny man’s endeavor, laughing overhead as he patiently waited for something to bite. [break][break]


The slow sound of waves brushing against the water assisted in his patience, every brush like a soft rinse against his nerves as he kept quiet. All of his patience would soon be rewarded, not just by the soothing sounds of water but a powerful Pokemon too! All he had to do was wait. [break][break]


Soon seconds would turn into minutes and minutes crept into hours while he waited. Never before had he been so still, only moving to cast and recast his line. Every soft whirl of the crystalline thread of his fishing rod screeched like the cry of a Meowth. He’d deduce that maybe the high pitched sound was scaring Pokemon away every time he cast, but such a deduction wouldn’t deter his effort. After all, stronger Pokemon probably didn’t care about loud noises. That notion spurred him through his waiting. [break][break]


Caius had began to reel in his lure for the fourth time, the red and white bobber submerged under the water. He spun the reel inwards, the amount of drag slowly building as he assumed it was getting closer. It wasn’t until something began tugging against him he’d realize he had a catch![break][break]


Stepping back he’d give the rod a hard tug backwards, the Pokemon on the other side of the water fighting against the trainer’s will. Caius continued to reel it in, His right hand already cramping from reeling in what must have been a massive Pokemon. [break][break]


The two would struggle like this for an hour, both human and marine life fighting in a marine game of tug of war. Caius arms were burning, his muscles ached as they constrained to continue to force his advisory onto land. His opponent was getting tired, he could tell they were, their thrashing becoming less violent as he’d finally tug them to the water’s surface. A blue, serpentine body thrashed in the water. [break][break]


His vision had been dry and he had to squint to see the Pokemon, narrowing his eyes to get a glimpse at whatever he had forced to breech the sea. “A Gyarados?!” he exclaimed, the struggle made sense now. It only made sense such a massive Pokemon would be giving him such a hard fight.

Smiling from ear to ear Caius powered through the burning in his forearms and with a second wind, he’d yank the serpent onto the beach. Slowly, he dragged it into the sand, the tired serpent’s aqua body turning pale blue and smaller than he thought it’d be. [break][break]


The assumption of a Gyarados fading as it become more evident that he hadn’t been fighting with a sea serpent but a seaworm. The brunette gasped at the sight of the Pokemon, sweat trickling down his brow as his monster Pokemon was revealed to be a Dratini. [break][break]


He fell to his knees, hands rested on his thighs as he stared at the exhausted Pokemon, “You might be wormy but...” he wiped the water off of his face with his shirt, the sweat of his struggle burned his already dry eyes.

“You’re tough. Really tough.” he muttered the words as he crawled over to the Pokemon, its slender body motionless save for its breaths. From his pocket he’d produce a Pokeball, tossing it at the resting Pokemon. He hoped their struggle was enough to keep it down. [break][break]


Rolling over onto his back, he’d sigh, staring up at the Wingull still circling above him. Their laughter much more befitting of the battle he just went through. Caius closed his eyes, at least he got what he was looking for.
