near the last known location of regirock's tomb, several trainers have stumbled across an ominous opening. inside, they will find the ruins of the legendary titan, riddled with traps, treasures, and the mystical unknown. no one knows what awaits them but one thing is for sure — a new arc begins. despite the thin veil of peace, the public still faces unease.
after the ultra beast war, hoenn begins to heal. the megalopolan invasion may have failed; however, it is clear there is much more at stake. a prophecy revolving around a cyclical meteoroid, the appearance of necrozma and a dangerous and viral alien threaten the safety of the region once more.
with rocket's new boss, the resurgence and reappearance of the crime syndicate's presence is imminent. the league has done its best to repair its reputation, and with the victory of a war under their belt, perhaps it is enough. but the seeds of distrust have already been sown in the ravaged land of this region, causing many to wonder what will grow?
[attr="class","ithread"]the ground is damp; the beginnings of panic begin to settle in iris. she had lost her partner--the senior ranger that had accompanied her--along the way. without them, she wasn't quite sure how she'd make it back to land. [break][break] "this is all your fault," she hisses at her marshtomp. if blue hadn't run off, she wouldn't be in this position. [break][break]
cait removed her goggles and breathing device with a sigh of relief, having only just slipped into the cavern after a lengthy swim. her green curls were soaked through and had been arranged in a neat and no-nonsense ponytail; her chosen garb a dark green and skin-tight diver's suit. the journey to this place had been made manageable by her selection of pokemon, the woman accompanied by creature's well-acclimated to the deep.
"looks like we made it."
her wartortle remained outside of his capsule, chosen to escort her into the damp cavern. and with the aid of a powerful flashlight, both she and him navigated its depths. the distant sounds of someone or something resulted in them taking care to generate little noise, both unaware of the presence of iris and her marshtomp counterpart.
[attr="class","ithread"]she might have noticed the woman, had the rhydon not appeared first. iris jumps back to increase the distance between them as it lets out a roar, her marshtomp moving in front to protect her. blue hurls a wave of MUDDY WATER at the large pokemon to worsen its vision. blind, the rhydon attempts to get a lucky strike in, swinging a HAMMER ARM some way off from the pair. [break][break]iris grabs blue and drags them in the opposite direction--away from the pokemon but closer to cait and her own. [break][break]
her wartortle steps forward as the sound of pursuit drew closer, the pokemon visibly alarmed at the sight of a human woman and her marshtomp as they rounded a corner. but he regained his focus as he noticed a rhydon at their heels, the turtle easily bypassing the pair to rush the enraged creature. the rock-type soon ramming itself into the solidly built walls of a protect, a grunt of surprise escaping it as it stumbled back.
the water-type allowed the construct to fall, quickly closing the distance to deliver a fiercely administered aqua tail; which proved to be more than enough of a deterrent as the wild beast promptly fled.
"who - "
cait stared at the pair, a suspicious gleam in her eye as she maintained her distance.
[attr="class","ithread"]stopping in her tracks, iris returns the gaze just as warily. she doesn't move. "you don't need to know," it's a blunt truth, though she only realises how rude it may come across after the words have left her mouth. some regret shows on her face, but the apology never comes. perhaps her last cave encounter with Valerio Dachev was still fresh in her memory. [break][break] a froakie hops past and blue, following his trainer's example, does not move to chase it. "um..." iris begins, "have...have you seen anyone else here?" [break][break]
wartortle shifted his gaze onto his mistress, awaiting her instruction. she appeared to be in the midst of mulling over the stranger's response, her eyes narrowing before she beckoned for her water-type to return.
cait shifted her focus toward the local fauna, straining her senses to make out the subtle sounds of webbed feet upon wet stone.
'nothing dangerous,' she thought.
"you're the only person i've seen for miles. or would the more appropriate term be knots?"
she didn't await a response before moving to walk past the woman.
