it's raining, and it's not a nice summer rain - it's more of the "monsoon" variety. nobody warned dominic that hoenn weather had the capacity for this.

the ponds and rivers cutting through the forested areas swell with water and mud and ash squelch underfoot as the trio traverse a well-worn path. supposedly, if the signs near the main roadside are to be believed, it's meant to lead them to the outskirts of fallarbor.

dominic has been silent since the car broke down, forcing them into this predicament in the first place. he leads the way only to hide the fact that he's ostensibly sulking into the fur trim of his jacket.

priam follows behind dominic as they got out of the car.

priam's longer hair gets drenched with the wetness of the rain, clumps of hair flopping sloppily in front of his face. it causes priam to take out the hair tie that holds his hair together and bunch as much hair as he can with it. it ends with a very awkward high ponytail that accents his forehead.

"are you friends now?" he asks marcel as he struggles to tie his hair under the rain. the droplets of water that flow from under his arm to inside his shirt makes him physically cringe cause it just feels weird. "didn't realize you two were this close."

maybe they are, since dominic invited him too instead of just priam.

finally successful in his search, marcel releases his meowstic onto his shoulder. the pokemon's subject to the rain for a few seconds before a BARRIER stretches out over him and priam, tilted slightly so the water ran off onto the ground behind them. he would have extended an invitation to dominic, had he bothered to slow down for a second.

dominic slowly turns to look behind him when he hears the burst of a pokemon capsule. priam and marcel spoke quietly, and dominic didn't hear the exchange over the sound of heavy rain and his own misery.

he appreciates the umbrella-BARRIER erected by marcel's pokemon, but is much too proud to turn back and approach, so instead he halts and pretends to be searching the grass as if something had grabbed his attention. he does see a croagunk - why does this pokemon haunt him?

dominic turns away and falls into step with marcel and priam.

"getting the car hauled back to the city is going to cost more than its market value," he says flatly.

he turns up to the barrier and smiles at marcel. priam proceeds to squeeze the water out of his hair as they walk since it gets too heavy with the moisture on it.

"i guess that's true," he responds to dominic.

priam doesn't actually know the price of getting a car towed, nor does he know the market value of the specific model of car that used, especially if it was to be sold as second hand. pretending seems to be fine though.

"when did you know each other? haven't seen you two interact before." before, as in before silas' death, where he hung out with marcel a lot. "hm, maybe it's just because you two were on different departments, or something," he muses out loud.

"kanto," he sighs, pushing away the memories, "it's not like we spoke much outside of work." marcel realises they're now talking about dominic right in front of him, and wonders if he's going to give any input. judging from his current mood, it seemed his silence would be the best case scenario.

a pokemon half-sunken into the mud catches his eye. for a moment he contemplates having his meowstic attack but, remembering their makeshift umbrella, gives a few taps to the back of his phone to wake his rotom up. the pokemon slips out of his pocket, and at his command sends a THUNDER WAVE to paralyse the throh. marcel throws a pokeball shortly after, and is thankful for good aim. he didn't fancy having to go pick it up when the ground was this muddy.

there’s a brief hitch in dominic’s pace at the mention of kanto. his eyes narrow at marcel but it’s more scrutinising than hostile. he opens his mouth as if to speak but changes his mind when a familiar jingling sound catches his attention.

the wild klefki is difficult to make out in the downpour, but its steel body nonetheless glints in the what gloomy light makes it through the rain. dominic turns to priam with a grin.

"well, would you look at that," he says, dropping his voice to murmur as he points out the pokemon. "you want your own klefki, kiddo?"

a klefki floats before him. he doesn't really need it since the only key that he has was for samuel carter 's apartment. everything else can be accessed with lockpicks or just be broken in, which is mostly elijah gardner's home.

he takes his espeon out of its pokeball. "hidden power!" he yells, energy contrasting the gloomy mood.

the super effective hit gets the klefki with a surprise hit. it's quickly followed by a pokeball for a capture.
