June was busying herself today with getting her newest addition acclimated to her team. The little Poochyena was a bit of a little shit but she figured that all she had to do was give it some one on one time and show it the ropes of how she did things and that would be the end of it, but she was horribly wrong.

The damn mutt was more interested in getting into trouble or trying to steal something than listening to whatever she said. She was currently giving the pup an evil eye, the two locked in somewhat of a staring contest.

That was until the Poochyena snapped at her, causing her to flinch. She had half a mind to kick the damn mutt.

”Calm down, if you get too angry then he wins.” This was far off from training against wild Pokémon to get used to each other.

Both of them stick out like a sore thumb against the canvas of grass and weeds.

Unlike the rangers, Fernando finds the wilderness more off-putting than therapeutic. It's only value is the feral Pokemon that calls this place home. Compared to their tamer counterparts, wild Pokemon tend to put up more of a fight. They can't compared to trained Pokemon but their tenacity and aggressiveness is something he both admires and values. That's what makes picking on them so fun.

"Or did you catch it yourself?"

Fernando stands his ground a few feet away, careful not to get too close to June's striking distance. Meeting her here was mere coincidence but he doesn't pass up the chance to say hi. The more the merrier when it comes to attracted the attention of nearby predators. Likewise, Fernando has his own canine out, a stoic Type:Null that lacks both the bite and personality shown by June's Poochyena.

She was ready to punt this little bastard into the stratosphere but suddenly they weren’t alone. June was concerned at first but after seeing it was only Fernando Silph she loosed up a bit.

”Oh it’s just you.” She’d sigh, taking note of the beast at his side. She almost jumped out of her skin looking at that thing, she’d never seen a Pokémon that looked like that. But he had asked her a question which snapped her back to reality.

”Uh what? Wait a minute, no! I caught this mutt he’s not one of Kyle’s.” June said, answering the question.

There were wild Pokémon nearby but June paid them no attention, despite her Poochyena barking at the psychic one. No, her focus was more on Fernando’s weird helmet dog.

”What the hell is this wicked beasty?”

[attr="class","spiral"]Just him. Well, that's a refreshing point of view, if not a little hurtful to his pride. Thankfully, he cares very little about something so trivial. If only the same could be said about the other big names in Hoenn.

"Ah." Well that explains the training. Fernando smiles mildly at the exchange but his attention is diverted when two Pokemon enter the vicinity. Rather than dispatch them, he watches them from a distance, recalling what little he knows about both species. His eyes are on the Drifloon.

"It's a Pokemon I got from a trade. There are a few around but they're extremely rare. I believe it's a new species of Pokemon. They're called Null."

He lines his finger up to the Drifloon and waits for his Type:Null to understand the implication.

"Want to see it in action? Go! U-TURN!"

And, in a mad sprint, the Type:Null bodies the smaller ghost despite the type disadvantage. It immediate returns to Fernando's side in a flashy pivot, turning in place yet again to ram into the Pokemon once more.

"It's a simple Pokemon but quite strong."

Evident in the way the Drifloon soon faints. The AFTERMATH stings but the capture more than makes up for it.

He got such a rare and cool Pokémon like this from a trade? Man, he’s really lucky, June would love to have something like this on her team.

”Null, huh?” She looked from Fernando and then back to the Pokémon and wondered why they were called that. That and why it looked like it had some helmet on its head.

Some Pokémon came with clothes or like armor but this was odder than most. She nodded enthusiastically at Fernando’s question, raring to see it get into action. And boy was she not disappointed the Null took out that wild Pokémon like it was nothing.

”Definitely strong for sure.” He might be underplaying it. She wanted to ask more questions but more Pokémon appeared so it was time to get to dealing with them. She’d deal with the Meditite, releasing her Boltund to fight.

”Wild Charge!” She ordered, watching as the Boltund then charged at the fighting-type and crashed straight into it. June was a bit disappointed it didn’t put up more of a fight but alas.

Although more than enough time has passed since the Galarian embargo, Fernando has yet to familiarize himself with the land's entire roster of native species. He does recognize the Pokemon's frame from his time observing Kyle and the similarities are uncanny enough for him to put two and two together. "Maybe you do take after Lopez?" It's only a jest but when the Pokemon breaks out into an electric attack, he thinks about his words more carefully.

"And your Pokemon looks just as strong."

Admittedly, the Meditite didn't put up much of a fight but was that a testament to the Boltund's power or the wild Pokemon's weakness? Fernando doesn't have time to dwell as he matches June's rhythm. "U-TURN," is his move of choice, keeping the Pokemon's move set hidden in front of others. In another circular sprint, the Pokemon rams into the Natu, bludgeoning it with its helmet repeatedly before Fernando puts a stop to it with a Pokeball.

”Good job, Touma.” The Boltund’s trainer kneeled down to pet the canine.

”Don’t praise him too much it’ll go straight to his head.” June laughed, knowing full well that the Boltund had no shred of modesty.

Whatever lighthearted mood had been established was quickly distorted when Fernando’s beast attacked the Natu with a disturbing lack of control.

”That was a bit brutal, don’t you think?” There were Pokémon nearby but she had no interest them in outside of some concern as to whether or not this Null thing was going to beat them senseless too.

”You sure you got a good handle on that thing?”

Fernando plays along with the little exchange between trainer and Pokemon until his own comes into question. “Nothing I can’t handle.” A confidence misplaced by his own handling over the Type:Null. His outright refusal won’t cause any incidents now but over time, during war, he will come to find June more correct than he knows.

Eventually, the two trainers part ways. However, before they return to the city, Fernando encounters an Inkay.

Against his Type:Null, it has no chance. The way the beast TACKLES its prey is nothing short of predatory. Even when its afflicted by SWAGGER and PAYBACK, the Beast Killer does not resist. Only when confronted by HYPONOSIS does it fall, slumping on the smaller, battered Pokemon.

Fernando recalls it and captures the Inkay as well.
