[attr="class","mthread"]sometimes it was just a matter of patience. they'd been waiting some time for the occupants of this holiday home, and the broken air con had been making itself painfully known throughout. he might have questioned why they hadn't fixed it, were it not for the debt they were here to collect. instead, he lets out a weary sigh.

marcel's sprawled back in a char, dragonair loosely curled around his feet. one hand hangs over the edge of the arm rest, holding his tie, while the other's making vague swiping motions in the air, his rotom switching the display on his phone with each one.

"at least they won't put up much of a fight," he says, "i don't think anyone could be bothered to run in this heat."

dominic is flopped across the sofa when marcel speaks, and he doesn't immediately respond, because that would require him to use brain power which he couldn't quite muster. his lips curl back into a faint smirk but he silences himself by jamming a popsicle into his mouth. at least the occupants keep the freezer well-stocked.

"don't jinx it," dominic says after a beat, voice slightly straining. he turns his head to look at marcel, tapping the popsicle against a canine thoughtfully for a moment before continuing. "are you okay? wearing all... that." he gestures at marcel's shirt and tie.

[attr="class","mthread"]marcel huffs. "what do you think?" he says without bite. a few more seconds pass before he finally glances at dominic; the look turns accusatory. "where the fuck d'you get that?"

before dominic can respond, marcel pushes himself off his chair, murmuring an apology to his dragonair as she stirs. as he walks to the next room, he shoves his tie into his pocket. his rotom-phone stays where it is.

it doesn't take long for him to find the freezer in the next room. crouching down, marcel rummages through the drawers until he finds a popsicle of his own. he gets up to leave but, on second thought, opens the freezer again and pulls out one of its drawers.

"belle." he calls to his pokemon as he drops the freezer drawer onto the floor. it's by no means large enough for the dragonair, but it's something. it takes belle a moment to catch his train of thought, eventually dragging herself across the room to bury her head in the tray's frozen contents.

dominic makes an unhelpful and vague gesture in the general and approximate direction of the kitchen. it’s when marcel moves and calls for his pokemon that dominic props himself up with his elbow to watch with some thinly-veiled curiosity.

he can’t help but scoff at the attempt at marcel’s attempt at COOLING OFF the pokemon, though he can’t exactly blame him. if memory serves, that species dwelled primarily in frigid caves. his own pokemon are probably best kept in their capsules for now - the thought of his houndoom’s very fur emanating more heat made dominic recoil.

hindsight really is 20/20 or he would have brought along an ice-type. dominic narrows his eyes at the airconditioner and the paltry amount of cool air it provided, wishing for an ICY WIND to be blasted at him.

"is there room for two fully grown men in there?" dominic says after a long moment.

his dragonair begins to liven, the chill brushing away her lethargy. the dragon-type slowly weaves through the drawer, taking the time to cool every part of its body. pulling itself up, the pokemon casts a look around the room before sweeping the floor with an ICE BEAM.

"i just might try it."

the very sudden burst of cold makes dominic flinch and sit up straight. his gaze flickers from the floor to marcel and his dragonair and then back down again. after a moment he snaps a chunk of his popsicle with his teeth and chews on it thoughtfully.

the carpet and the floorboards underneath will be utterly fucked after the ice melts and the water sweeps through to rot the wood and grow mould. it’s a lesson he learned after a similar incident in one of his first apartments back in saffron - it wasn't exactly a BIG BRAIN MOMENT. he was almost starting to feel sorry for the occupants of the place - first the absurd electricity bill for the air conditioner and now this.

"interesting," he says slowly. "this fucker is going to slip and break both ankles without us doing anything."

against his better judgement, dominic gingerly slides himself off the sofa to touch the ice with his outstretched palm.

dominic’s fingertips brush against the ice and he briefly finds himself reminiscing. he’s only been in hoenn for two years but it feels like it’s been longer since he’s seen naturally occurring snow.

his gaze shifts from the floor to the dragonair and finally to marcel. for perhaps the hundredth time, dominic finds himself wondering how marcel can stand being in a fucking suit. just looking at him made dominic want to take his own SHIRT OFF.

"do you think you could if you tried?" he asks, rhetorical. dominic could vaguely recall marcel successfully supporting his weight at the recent beach party.
