[attr="class","witness"]Well, seemed even Fortree was in summer spirits. There was a zipline event happening in Fortree and Abner knew something like that might be something Stormy liked, so he was waiting for her at Fortree.

This was, technically, a date, but he knew better than to call it that. They were just hanging out together with nobody else doing date like things but kissing... which honestly, Abner got enough death glares from her he didn't need a kiss. That was fuel enough for whatever Abner wanted out of Stormy.

To be on her radar, to have her close. Not for any purpose other than to make sure the league was distracted. Ha, he was really and literally playing with fire and he needed to cool it down. That much he'd learned from their little stint with zigzagoons and bidoofs.

So, he told her it was an apology and if she came to Fortree she wouldn't be disappointed. If she came, cool. If she didn't, he'd come to her... yikes.

"Hopefully she won't mind it being hotter than a slave ship out here, sweet Arceus...."

To be completely honest, she had been a little skeptical about agreeing to join him on this date. She had come to accept it as a date thanks to his aggressive stance on calling them dates since that is, after all, exactly what they were, and there was nothing wrong with that.[break][break]

Rather, her hesitation stemmed from their awkward scene with the Zigzagoon and the Bidoof where he had been unexpectedly rude - at least for her. [break][break]

But his text promised an apology and an invitation to Fortree - and she had a pretty good feeling she knew what kind of activity they'd be doing. She had recently gotten a pamphlet in the mail advertising the new zipline set up on the edge of Fortree city. Apparently it was a blast and a half and she had planned on visiting it at some point.[break][break]

Of course, visiting it with a partner is always fun - bonus points if it was a cute boy who gave her heart palpitations.[break][break]

So, Stormy showed up, fully decked out in protective pants and a breathable long-sleeve shirt. She didn't want to get scratched up, after all. Safety first.[break][break]

"What, is it hot? I didn't notice."[break][break]

She sneaks up on the man casually, pulling her hair back into a ponytail as she approaches. She had overheard his worry and wore a deviously excited smile on her face. It was hard to tell if it was exciting to see him or see the ziplines up ahead. [break][break]

You bet your ass she was ready to soar like a Wingull out there today.

The moment he hears her he's splitting a grin. He turns toward her to watch her put her hair up in a ponytail. He wonders now if this is going to be a new habit of hers, if she's going to be pulling her hair back in pony tails and braids when he's around her.[break][break]

All those thoughts drizzle away at the notion that it's not hot out. Because it is hot out. Too hot. So hot. She's hot. His brain's a little friend, it's fine.[break][break]

"That's because you have veins of fire, Silphette."[break][break]

It was meant as much as a compliment as Abner could possibly mean it. Veins of fire, for sure. A passion that was clear to anybody, even to him. Sure, he didn't think she needed the compliment. She was impressive enough even she should recognize it, but sometimes people don't realize their own excellence when they're trudged through the dirt behind titles and responsibility.[break][break]

"Let's get on that zipline, then, eh? Oh hey!"[break][break]

Excitement filled him like a child who had gotten a new video game or learned that DLC was going to be released for their favorite video game.[break][break]

"I managed to get my hands on a gengar! And I heard the safari zone's openin' up with gastlies soon, so I was thinkin' about goin' in... probably tomorrow. Maybe next week."[break][break]

Honestly? His smile is enough to make her pause and her brain read like an error 404 on repeat. Why was he grinning? What could he possibly enjoy so much? Her hair? Is that why he had pulled it? Was that gesture meant to have been a compliment? Is that why he had been so nonchalant and unapologetic then?[break][break]

What a strange and bizarrely attractive human being he was. She was caught a second time by his strange charm - even if it was inevitable that he might ruin the mood again.[break][break]

Like now, because she's flustered and he's staring at her with that grin and she doesn't know how to respond.[break][break]

Her expression remains bewildered and flattered at both the compliment and his use of his petname for her - a petname she had already corrected before. She chooses not to correct it this time. Maybe it's growing on her.[break][break]

"What are you waiting for? Get going, get going! I'll go second, you're the sacrifice."[break][break]

She approaches him, tightening the ponytail and running her fingers briefly through the dark strands before glancing up at him when his excitement takes a turn. He mentions a Gengar and her eyes light up in mutual excitement.[break][break]

"Oh that's great, Abner! I hope you have fun - shame I can't tag along."[break][break]

But she gestures for the zipline, eager to get geared up, strapped in and launched across a ravine.

"You'd probably scare them all away with your scowls and glares.... or maybe that would attract them."[break][break]

Abner's curiosity is cut short as Stormy's ushering him first as the sacrifice. He barks out a laugh at the idea, but is grinning, because why the hell wouldn't he go first??[break][break]

"No worries there, Storm. I planned on goin' first."[break][break]

As they approach the zipline, Abner's waving for him to go first and getting all harnessed up. He glances at Stormy every once in a while and makes a face as the guy's tightening the gear around him, and then another face when the holster's being tested with a good shake or two. Once he's cleared and clipped in, he looks to Stormy and grins once again.[break][break]

"See ya on the other side--"[break][break]

With a salute, he's pushed off, and immediately he's letting out a yip and a hoot, hollering otherwise and letting out a few laughs. Shit like this was his favorite, since he wasn't able to do this sort of stuff as a kid. Being locked up or in a ring, and all that.

Stormy laughs in response to his excitement, but soon becomes distracted and enamored by the way the harnesses work and how snug a fit they made them. Which was expected, they weren't trying to get anyone harmed or killed for the same of a thrill.[break][break]

She did have to wonder, though, what Abner meant by her scowls and glares. Did she do that often? Right now, she felt like she couldn't stop smiling. Anticipation lit her up like a firework and she was anxious to get going, but, of course, had to wait for Abner to reach the other side first.[break][break]

He yips and howls and cheers and she is more than a little amused and excited to share the sentiment in a few more minutes.[break][break]

Before long, Stormy is sent packing with the wind ripping through her hair. The ponytail snaps back and forth in the air and she allows herself to cheer and scream and laugh just a little bit like a crazy person. A person having a crazy amount of fun, that is.

When Abner's caught on the other side, he's taken out of his harness and hears Stormy's noise of crazy fun as she's heading toward them. He reassured the guy who had caught him that he'd catch Stormy, sure to do so when she got close enough. With her once again in his arms, this time he's got her bridal style with his hands on her thighs and back, he's grinning at her.[break][break]

"I'd say let's go again, but, we've got the whole rest of the festival to explore today, right?"[break][break]

Only once he's reminded that the harness needs removed does he set her down so that she can be unclipped and the harness removed.

She's expecting there to be a professional waiting to catch her and pull her in on the other side, but she sees Abner standing there waiting for her instead. [break][break]

"Abner-- wait--"[break][break]

But he's quick and efficient and makes catching people look easy. She's draped in his arms before long and it's downright adorable. She can feel herself warm up with embarrassment, but she clings to him in case there's danger of being dropped.[break][break]

"Nice catch."[break][break]

He sets her down and she's looked over to remove the harness. Her heart is still hammering and she doesn't know if it's from the zipline or from Abner's closeness. And yet she finds herself drawing closer to him regardless, smiling.[break][break]

"What's next then, officer? Tickle me impressed already."

Abner had nearly looked over his shoulder to see if an officer had joined them, when he remembered, 'Hey stupid, you're a police officer during the day.'[break][break]

"Think it's a decent enough apology of a day so far?"[break][break]

Truth be told it was the only reason he was out here with her. Other than, like with giada morgan, he didn't absolutely hate being around her. Really, he couldn't think of a person he hated being around with every fiber of his being. There were times he thought maybe that person was marcel maeda, but usually he got heated, blew off steam, and saw Marcy's side of things... which was annoying as fuck.[break][break]

After she's released from her harness, he's starting toward the next attraction of the summer festival.

Stormy falls into step alongside him, hand brushing his. The sun is going down and she can smell fireworks. A few were being fired in a test manner. It seemed like there would be a show later tonight.

The fireworks overhead have him smirking. They're barely visible but hell, it'll be a good night. As they make their way into the festival, the chatter and bustle of the people around them cause Abner to hover a bit closer to Stormy. Why?[break][break]

Fun fact, he doesn't do crowds well, it's fine.[break][break]

Give him an audience and put him in the ring and he's fine. But crowds like this? So many people? It's annoying and gives him a bit of anxiety; which he tends to drink to get rid of.[break][break]

"I could use a drink," though he doubts there's vodka this early in the day. "Think they got a decent alcohol on hand? I hate beer."[break][break]

He's glancing around at the stalls as they enter, as if to try and answer his own question.

Stormy notices him hover closer and it piques her interest. Where she is bold and outgoing, confident in her social skills despite her lack of ability to sometimes read the room, she is quite literally in her element out here. For the most part, people pass them by without issue and are generally good for not bumping off shoulders. They keep their distance, it's Abner who's invading her space.[break][break]

And, to combat this, Stormy does what she would in any uncomfortable situation, she reaches out. Her hand finds his and laces in between his, offering him a subtle squeeze just as he asks for a drink.[break][break]

"I think I can smell greasy bar food from some knightly-themed pop-up pub. We can try there."[break][break]

Stormy leads him along if he allows it, expertly traversing the crowd to stand in front of the exact location she had smelled. It quite honestly looked delicious.

Greasy knight-themed pop-up pub food sounded great, but Abner was a little rattled. Stormy had taken his hand and laced their figners together. He'd never experienced anything like this before and was completely caught off guard and confused.

"Yeah, food."
[break][break]

No, he had not the slightest idea he sounded as distracted as he was in his response. But he did take her hand back, because he didn't want to get lost in the crowd and have to find her. That'd be annoying as hell. But he wasn't sure what to pin the 'hand holding' thing under. Uncomfortable, unpredicted, or just odd. Either way, he decided to do what he did in most situations he didn't understand.

He rolled with it and let her take the lead. This was her apology date anyway. Well, his apology date for her-- whatever, anyway, he's confused it's fine.
