Valerio was true to his promise that he would come back for @iris. It was a difficult job trying to get her alone from the ranger’s company. But once he did, the rocket did not let the opportunity slip by his fingers.

It was one of his brighest plans: an ambush in the night of Slateport, where people would be busy in the lower district and the woman could not rely on her company’s help. Perhaps, she would sense the ominous presence lingering in her periphery. That would meant Valerio’s runerigus, Phantom, successfully did his job.

Shaded by the mask of night, Valerio met Iris on a narrow passage where she was trapped by the runerigus and golbat from both sides. The ghost set up TOXIC SPIKES to prevent her from further escaping as the bat was just there for backup.

“Fancy meeting you here, Miss Foster,” Valerio greeted a long time comrade. “I hope we haven’t messed up your nightly escapades.”

The rocket showed her a newspaper of a murder case weeks ago, a certain Hobert Wilson in the town of Oldale dispatched by an unknown identity being investigated by Laurence Anderson, he explained. Should he be successful in corrupting @iris, it would prove his strategy for vengeance is ideal.

“Nothing purely personal, just a bonus—if I may say. Besides, the desk files of the region’s head ranger is something definitely worth reading,” Valerio walked near the ranger. “I need to know everything about your headquarters.”

The feeling was familiar—one might mistaken it for a bad case of fever, death knocking on his door, stomach turning and churning at the resounding disappointment. It was not her refusal to abide his request, but the feeling of betrayal and denial that kicked him out of his comfort.

“And why is that?” His voice assertive, relentless. “Isn’t it our pledge that we’ll forever be brothers and sisters in this organization?” As far as he was concerned, @iris’s retirement did not mean anything. “I only need information. Or else—”

that was what valerio thought of iris since the beginning, probably even more now. “that must have been the reason why you left. and why you choose this path now.”[break][break]

golbat and runerigus calmed down as soon as they heard the sound of defeat in their trainer’s voice. they thought his question bugged her, knocked off her defenses. they thought his strategy was smart. but they also knew valerio was logical and he would not waste any more time for a lost cause. “dark clouds are coming. don’t say i didn’t warn you when i already did. twice.”[break][break]

he raised the two capsules and retrieved back his mons. the man turned his back at the lady, began to walk away. hopefully for iris, they would not meet again. “anyway, i’ll get that information one way or another.” valerio stopped temporarily, but he did not look back. “i suppose, ‘see you when i see you,’ huh?”[break][break]
