he sees an oranguru before them. it's as ugly as he could have imagined it to be, but he wants one for something specific. he probably wouldn't use it though, so he'll maybe give it to noah faber or something. he likes ugly pokemon.

"okay, one more go, barst. inferno."

the houndour whips his head around from left to right until it finds the target. he opens his mouth, although kyle shushes him in time to prevent him from barking that would have alerted the wild pokemon of their presence.

from behind the oranguru, a burst of flames come from the fire-type to the psychic-type. burns cover most of its body as it tries to fan it away with its leaf fan. it looks so stupid doing it that kyle saves it from humiliation with a throw of his pokeball.

dominic could not fathom why kyle would catch a such an ugly pokemon. that being said, the smell of smoked oranguru fills the air and he realises he's a little hungry. maybe it's a strange thought to be having. dominic averts his eyes and catches sight of a zigzagoon darting through the grass. he throws a pokeball at it

"he's so cute when he sets pokemon on fire," dominic drawls, in a way that sounds like a joke, but he knows is definitely not meant to be joking.

as his houndour comes back from fetching the pokeball used to catch the oranguru, kyle lowers himself to a squat to cover his houndour's ears. part of why he doesn't want him to evolve is because they lose them when they do.

"yeah, but your houndy's cuter. sleeps a lot, like that shit's cute."

there's no way he'd let his baby houndy catch his trainer being unfaithful by comparing him to another houndy in front of him. the pokemon remains fixated on giving kyle the pokeball on his mouth all while this was happening.

dominic blinks at kyle and then at his houndour. he drops his gaze to the houndoom's capsule in his hands and smiles a smile that is more reminiscent of a grimace - he considered his houndoom to be many things, but cute was certainly pretty low on that list.

"kyle," dominic says after a long moment. "you have some of the cutest pokemon i have ever seen. my dog only sleeps, eats, and tears things apart if i'm not looking."

"can a cute dog do this?"

he picks up his houndour and tosses it at the audino. it clings to its face as it lands, face panicked with the situation it was suddenly put into. it looks behind kyle, unable to discern the intentions of his trainer.

"my doggy can't even do things on his own without me saying something," he explains, before looking at his houndour. "inferno!"

the audino abruptly gets covered with flames, covering it with severe burns. kyle takes a pokeball out and tosses it at the audino, trying to end its misery through mercy catching.

he knows at least one person he can dump this on, at the very least.

"i know a lot of people train their pokemon to respond to sound cues or gestures," dominic says slowly, the corners of his mouth lifting to a smile. "seems like a set-up for failure," he admits.

the underboss stretches and stifles a yawn. "anyway, still cute though."
