[attr="class","light"]now he needed to give his full attention to the room. considering the initiative was mainly for those bestowed with the power from a legendary. the second half of the meeting would start off with learning an unprecedented death. the recent champion wasn't even in her seat for no more than a month or three: Bailey Cooper.

it seemed those that served as champion had a knack for dying. why anyone would want the seat was beyond him. the title was starting to become no longer a joke, but more of a curse. and kyle lopez was next on the list.

the news didn't exactly unsettle zenji jabami compared to some of those. he had never met the woman, but heard of her courageous feats. for hoenn to lose another individual that was capable of earning their name was sad. should kyle lopez fall then hoenn, from here on out, was done for. zenji was determined to ensure that wouldn't happen, he quite liked it here. this was his home after all.

"if permitted, i'll help with said research on the matter when time allows it." zenji spoke, piggybacking off of Eva Morales. "the last thing we need is to lose another champion." if we lose another one it would be about time to start employing aid from those outside of the region at this point.

kyle lopez's response captured zenji by surprise. he couldn't help but snicker at the comment. immediately he would cover up said snicker with a cough. "i need to lay off the cigarettes," he lowly said to himself. pretending as though his attention had been toward a personal thing rather than them.

note: things are getting too spicy for the pepper.

this was just so ghetto.

was he in a room full of professionals? was this a circus? did he hear the circus music play when he entered? was he at some zoo? am i having a stroke? zenji thought to himself. what on god's green earth happened?

he expected to walk into a room full of experts. people who, with high reputation, held some form of dignity. from the women arguing to the sudden assault on illeana reyes. there wasn't much he could say or do. he simply kept watch of the scene that unfolded. if he had some tea right now he would take joy in sipping some. luckily, he had no need for it because the tea here was piping hot.

zenji would simply lean back in his chair. his hands clasped together and placed atop of his thighs. eyes shifted from one person who spoke over to the next. it was then that kyle lopez, another avatar, was put on the spot. poor guy seemed innocent and looked as if he held little desire to be apart of this. unfortunate he was burden with such a responsibility. to be so young he seemed the most mature out of everyone...at least by personality.

[attr="class","light"]zenji purposely chose not to take notice of whether or not they were allowed to smoke in here. his reason to offer the councilman a cigarette was mainly to see if they were. by accepting the charcoal colored cigarette that would showcase they were allowed, or at least that was what he'd assume. yup, fernano was just a fact to his hypothesis.

mission accomplished, sorry FERNANDO SILPH.

for a silent apology he would light the end of his stick after pulling out a lighter. "you sound as if you're going to your grace early, don't tell me you've attracted some incurable illness?" quickly he'd pause to return a simple smile to illeana reyes. then he would turn back to FERNANDO SILPH, "i wouldn't be surprised if this meeting had something to do with the avatar powers giving you all supernatural cancer." at least that would make the meeting more interesting for him.

"in all seriousness," he should probably respond to what was a heartfelt sentiment, "i appreciate the words." Lucas Lane was irreplaceable. though, those who were left in the place had no room for his mind. right now, right here, he needed to focus on the current situation at hand. "you're praise makes me feel at ease, councilman FERNANDO SILPH. i'm sure the results of this meeting will lead to the future of the league and this region's success."

or not, but he was gonna keep that part to himself.

zenji had no idea what seemed to be irking the councilman. to say such a statement for a man with his reputation could only mean something about this did not entail a pleasant outcome. he was a tad bit worried about this meeting. how chaotic would it get should people disapprove of being used as lapdogs for the league?

zenji was still an outsider so he had little opinion over the matter or care. if granted he was ready to give his input if necessary. for now zenji just had to wait for the meeting to get started. simultaneously, while doing so, he'd converse with the councilman himself. "is that so?" he questioned, "that doesn't sound like a man who's vert pecha." pulling out a carton of black cigarettes, zenji would offer one, "wanna bum a cigarette off of me to get you through this?"

zenji shook the box.

"they're djarum bl∆ck, best brand out there." zenji would try to tempt the councilman. whether he took it or not mattered little to him, "got any theories on how this meeting will turnout?"

[attr="class","light"]a hand risen to deny the woman of her fee for an escort. zenji shook his head, "free of charge. it's not as if this place is sealed from those who wish to explore it, other than civilians." they couldn't exactly have strangers running around and getting hurt due to lack of supervision. that was the last thing he needed on his plate.

"oh?" he'd take notice of the cleffa clinging to her leg. lowering himself to the pokemon's level, he'd say, "you must feel at home right now." he'd look up to amalia samson, "before we get started..." he'd take a beat, "anything unusual occur with your cleffa since you've arrived?" zenji asked inquisitively.

[attr="class","light"]it wasn't hard to reach out to zenji considering he was now located in ever grande city mainly. when he received the invitation he wanted to deny it. when learning that it was personally made by the commissioner herself? he became more interested, especially after reading what the meeting entailed.

zenji decided to attend. one reason was due to the fascination of what the outcome would be. were people okay with becoming lapdogs and what would happen should one refuse? was this plan made by dahlia goode, the commissioner, herself? or maybe it was FERNANDO SILPH, it seemed like an idea he would suggest. either way, it took a lot to get the reserved scientist excited; a very rare occasion.

there was no way he could say no.

upon entering the venue. zenji's right ear had a cigarette stick atop of it. placing his lab coat on a coatrack, he would head over to where FERNANDO SILPH resided. a quick pat on the shoulder would signify a greeting. he'd take a seat beside the individual, asking, "everything alright, councilman silph?"

a voice rung out in response to her question. sleeves were rolled to his elbow, the three buttons at the top of his shirt were unbuttoned. dirt had practically smeared his face and clothing. a towel was used to clean himself off upon revealing himself. "there's plenty of to go around."

there were some late night workers deep within the caverns mining and gathering. "be careful though, some of the pokemon roaming about here haven't been too keen on the invasion of their home." lucario, who was nowhere to be seen, had been on guard duty for those who were still inside. "my pokemon are watching out for any wildlings running amuck." zenji would stare for a moment at the woman that stood before him. his mind, as per usual, drawing a blank on her name.

"you got an idea?" he asked curiously.

[attr="class","light"]as he was guided by avery during their walk. the professor had some stuff on his mind. it wasn't until he realized the silence that what was on his mind had been placed into the back. the things he needed to worry about could be worried about later. right now he needed to be in the moment.

"out of curiosity, has this occupation always been your desired interest?" he was interested in learning about her backstory. he knew the stuff that was needed for her job. but he wanted to understand his associate more. "even those with little voices have big dreams. it's only human to want more out of life than just a job."

[attr="class","light"]avery's sudden touch brought him back to reality. the worry she expressed for him was genuine. all he could do was softly huff, a smile don. "if there's one thing i hate it's when people worry about me," he chuckled. that was his job; though, for her to have worried for him made him happy. she really was someone he could consider family at this point.

"it's my job as the boss to worry about all of you. you're a million years too early to have that right, collins." he'd pat the pinkette atop of her head, "you're doing enough with taking care of the pokemon. why add more to your plate?" a soft breath had been taken; next an extended hand. "here," he'd offer to carry her basket, "let's get you to where you have to be, okay?" whether she accepted his offer or not wouldn't change his request to get her safely back to where she was headed.

[attr="class","light"]it isn't surprising to find that avery jones felt how many did. after the sudden appearance made by team rocket's new honcho. it's to be expected that the region would be in fear. and yet, at the same time, it was shown to them the current standing of kanto. "that's fair considering what we all bore witness to," zenji responded.

"it's a normal reaction, especially with all that occurred during the live screening." zenji wondered how everyone was doing. it made him worry a little. "i'm not exactly in the right headspace myself, i'm just worried about everyone's current standing and their opinion of the league." but to be fair he, simultaneously, didn't care. this entire situation could go either way. at the end of the day he didn't have much to worry about. zenji wasn't the commissioner or a member of the counil, so he was silently rejoicing.

"i just hope everyone on the board is coping well," he'd add. "there's so much happening right now that i can barely keep track, i rather just bury myself in the corner of my office and just exist silently." why can't they ever just have one restful year without chaos? "this region never ceases to amaze me with how much trouble it gets itself into."

[attr="class","light"]a gentle push had been felt within his back. a pandemonium of assortments fell and uttered noise. zenji would come to be brought back into reality. turning to take notice of a familiar voice, "...avery?" he called the woman by her first name. he didn't expect to run into his colleague so soon.

assisting her in gathering the items. he'd come to place them back into her basket, "you really know how to startle someone. for a moment i thought i was being mugged." even though he had little doubt someone would be stupid enough; though it wasn't like his delinquent past growing up was written all over.

"here, let me."

zenji stood while offering a helping hand. "you need to be careful, are you alright? i hope you're not sick or anything." for her to be have been so careless was rare, at least for zenji. was this avery outside of work or was fatigue overtaking the pinkette? either way, he was concern for the talented woman's health.

[attr="class","light"]evening almost came and zenji had just finished working. "what am i gonna have for dinner, tonight?" he thought to himself aloud. he didn't feel like cooking for himself in all honesty. then again he couldn't recall the last time he went grocery shopping. maybe that's what he needed to do.

grateful for league's assistance in providing him an apartment. he didn't exactly enjoy the big city life. it was too loud and bright. he missed the quaint town of littleroot.

as he walked the streets of lilycove. zenji would come to stop in front of a jewelry store. a wedding ring captured his eye. it was chartreuse. "i'm getting old," he mumbled to himself. the thought of settling down did sound nice. why did he say that or even think it? maybe he was just tired.

before continuing his walk. he'd come to take notice of two young teenagers watching the video of rocket's announcement. they were chatting away about the news. giggling one of them did, whereas the other voiced how frightened she was. "some people must think it's a prank gone too far, others actually believe it." he said aloud, "i wonder if they're scared themselves..." zenji's mind trailed off in his thought of those back in littleroot.
