Easier said than done. No one seeks to be controlled, it just kind of. . . happens. It sits wrong in her stomach. It twists and turns, the thought of it alone making her nauseous. It makes her shift uncomfortably. To her, the risk does not outweigh the reward.

“Exactly,” she says abruptly, pointing a finger at him, “You are stronger than that, you don’t need it,” Point made, “I don’t want that for you – for us. If this is all to protect me, listen to me . . . To what I want . . . please,” There’s an undertone of desperation to her voice. He’s stubborn, she knows that and fears there’s little she can do to change his mind.

She won’t deny they’ve grown inside a cage. It’s what they try to break free from, why they hunt for strength and power. It’s ultimately for each other. She hunts to protect him; he hunts to protect her.

“You’ll go from one cage to another if you sell your soul to that thing.”

She spits it out like the bitter taste of an apricorn. Lex has been trapped in a cage too long, always someone’s puppet. She has no intention of letting Kilian live that kind of life, all because of her.

The price is his freedom. None of these people were their own anymore. They're tied to a being that they rely on. The taste of power, the physical manifestation of that power becomes a part of them. It digs so deep that they learn they can’t live without it.

He wouldn’t be hers anymore.

We’re not

He steps away, leaving her colder than before without his touch. An emptiness grows and she fills it with rage, as she learned to do. Her brows furrow and her muscles tighten. A narrowed gaze burns into his cheek since he refuses to look at her, “Bull shit, Killian. I was stupid, naïve, lost, I made mistakes – that’s why we’re in this mess. But I’ve grown past that. We’ve grown,” Closer, stronger, deeper in love. And they’re still growing stronger.

She has no idea who Carl is, nor does she really care. Her involvement in this project ends when she delivers the pokemon requested. Quite frankly, that’s enough for her. Her gaze follows his gesture towards the bin labeled ‘for smelting’. The pokeball clanks into the metallic tray and she washes her hands of the situation and this conversation.

Lex’s prayers go unanswered (as they typically do when you ask a question) and he continues talking, explaining why a name would be “cooler”.

In the end, they were talking about smelting pokemon. There’s nothing pleasant about that. All for the glory of Rocket, blah, blah, blah. She doesn’t fully buy into that bull shit.

“Honestly, it all sounds terrible,” she admits with a sigh, shaking her head as she watches the fire burn bright on the other side of barrier.

The Spectreir’s silent steps stop as the silhouette of a man approaches. Both ears perk up in curiosity, a gentle snort of warning to the woman. Rubbing the back of her head, she follows the equine’s gaze. Great. Perfect. Exactly what they need.

A Blissey immediately tends to her wounds, inspecting her with a critical glare. Lex tense, immediately uncomfortable by the pokemon’s sudden invasion into her space. She doesn’t know this person. Or does she?

The full moon casts a light shadow over the man’s face. Immediately, he recognizable. An Elite Four member. Lex isn’t on great terms with the League, “Yeah,” she grunts, pushing herself up to her feet, “Yeah I did,” she admits, looking behind her and up from where she came.

War continues his casual saunter over to her side, curling around behind her to rest his chin over her shoulder.

His hunt for this creature has been exhausting – for the both of them. She’s sick of seeing him like this. Nothing is worth this, especially when it’s unnecessary.

The warmth of his hand settles on her cheek. She leans into it, she misses this. She closes her eyes.

Of course, it’s about her. The answer never changes. She didn’t ask for any of this. She doesn’t want him suffering at her expense. Couldn’t he see that?

Lex craves power, strength in a similar manner. There’s too many things in this world that have tried to tear them apart and she refuses to sit back and let them anymore. Seeking legendaries is a dangerous game, “You really think it’s just gonna . . . help you? Just like that? Without wanting something in return,” her lids peel back, ambers finding his blues again, “We’re strong enough, together, Killian.”

The weight of his hands on her shoulders is heavy, only made heavier by the accusation her makes. She abandons the coffee cup on the counter to lift both hands, placing them gently over his forearms. He could handle anything. He’s the strongest person she knows. He knows that.

“Of course you can – but is it worth it, Killian? All this?” her hands squeeze his forearms, concern bleeding through her voice.

No, it’s not worth it.

“What’s the end game? What happens if you find it?” If. Not when. She’s skeptical the accounts don’t hold much weight. The multiverse is an endless void. Who knows where this creature could be?

And if it did heed his call . . . what its intentions could be.

Lies.

The room grows colder. Despite the heat of the cup radiating into her palm, a chill runs down her spine.

“Don’t lie to me, Killian,” the thumb of her left hand instinctively fidgets with the ring on her finger, “What good is any of this if you’re not here, with me, to enjoy it?” she knows him well enough to know why he searches so desperately, “We don’t need it. We’re strong enough, together.”

Yes. This was not an ideal situation for the once rather friendly woman. Lately, he fuse has been cut short. Dangerously short. priam conrad’s rather energetic presence was a tad annoying . . . but she couldn’t deny that she was intrigued by his overall kindness.

She shakes her head, not taking her gaze off the furnace, “Nope,” a rather simple response to his observation. They haven’t “hung out” one-on-one yet. Probably for the best.

“I came to deliver this,” she raises her hand, a pokeball rolling between her fingers, “It’s a pokemon for . . . whatever this is,” she motions vaguely to the furnace with the same hand.

“Why does it need a name?” she turns her attention over towards Priam, just her amber eyes glancing at him.

Dramatic?

The heat rises to dangerous levels. So much so, that she stands. The stool grinds against the tile in a loud, dramatic fashion. The tension in her jaw loosens to speak, “Dramatic!? Killian, look at yourself!”

She didn’t ask him to do this, opposite even. She’d ask him to stop. What good is safety and security when he suffered in the process? They are fine, secure, and safe with each other. She steps closer, there’s a pleading in her gaze as she locks it with his, “Please, Killian,” please stop.

Her previous trek up the mountain had proven fruitful. Hopefully, this journey would be similar. . . despite it having already gone to shit.

Lex’s attempt to climb Mt. Pyre ended in her taking a small tumble, falling down a steep cliff and onto the path of Route 121. Luckily there were several branches and rocks to grab onto and slow her fall so she isn’t too beaten up. Dirt smeared across her face is mixed with a small amount of bright red thanks to the cut on her cheek below the scar over her left eye.

“Fuck,” she groans, sitting herself up with a sharp exhale. The Spectrier snorts, walking casually up the path as if nothing had happened, “Yeah, thanks for the help ya little shit.”

He chastises her like a child. Sure, he’s tired, but a simple ‘yes’ would have been more appropriate. Instead, a heat rises, flushing her cheeks with a subtle, rosy hue. The grip on her coffee mug tightens slightly, physically releasing some of the building tension.

“Don’t talk to me like that, Killian,” her gaze narrows, amber hues taking on a slightly colder appearance.

She doesn’t have anything against the alien, it’s hard to have feelings towards something that is still an enigma and just a dream. What she dislikes is his obsession over it, “Killian, you need to take a step back. It’s killing you,” her hand motions towards him again, referring to his disheveled appearance and the dark circles shadowing the brilliant blue of his eyes.
