Roach side-eyed her, clearly not amused. “Huh.” His head nodded around the syllable, and he took one last, long drag, and flicked the remainder of his smoke into the wall with a flurry of sparks.

He’d decided not to take advantage of her. That didn’t mean she was exempt from being shaken down when it came to the security of his livelihood. A foot switched and the rotation of rubber beneath them slowed with a whine. They never stopped, but it was clearly meant to be intimidating.

Thicker gravel in his voice scuffed against the question, again. Come on, neither of them wanted to do this, right? “I got all kinds of friends, Lex. Why don’t you tell me which ones?”

Casualness shone through a light edge, his gaze looking back ahead to give her a bit of space.

Toto begins playing.[break][break]
Tony. T. glowers as his game is lost, unaware of the man still looming over his shoulder after being accidentally hit with a creatively utilized baseball bat. When lilith eirwin suggests checking on the man, he looks over. “Who, him? He’s fine. Look at ‘im! Tough guy.”

But the man is indeed a tough guy. One fist smacks into the other threateningly, before it’s wound back, ready to strike—but Tony T. is quicker. He dodges the punch, twists, and goes to hit the man with the bat again, only this time, intentionally. The first barfight of the night commences and it promises to be a doozy. However, it is soon the least of everyone’s problems.[break][break]

The bat slips from Tony’s hands, just as he is tackled to the ground. It soars above heads, clear across to the bar, where Kendra has lined up a neat row of lemondrop martinis for the bachelorette party. [break][break]

The domino effect that happens next is almost in slow motion. [break][break]
The bat hits Lonnie’s Vanillite. Glasses burst as it slides down the bar, knocking over one drink after another until it finally careens into a lidless container of sugar, knocking it onto the ground at the feet of a shocked Kendra Frye.[break][break]

The bartender sees red, and she is suddenly ripping the Vanillite a new one in a string of expletives. The assaulted pokemon, feeling cornered, reacts by FREEZING her below the neck. She gasps a moment, and then screams even louder.[break][break]

“Ooh!” A nearby woman hands her beer off, ready to save the day. “Um.. shit. Uh..” A quick feel around in several pockets and something useful is seemingly found. “Got it! Hold on!” [break][break]

A tired looking Cyndiquil is released. It squints up at the frozen woman curiously. “Cynnamon, we need to warm her up.” ‘Cyn!’ “Use FLAMETHROWER!”[break][break]

“OH. No no NONONO—”[break][break]

FWOOSH.[break][break]

A moment after the pokemon’s mouth yawns open, fire spreads from it, all the way down the bar-top—following the trail of booze which had spilled moments prior. [break][break]
Kendra screams louder, still unable to move. Luckily, the ice is melting, now.[break][break]

Looking at his next opponent, Rowan Wrynn , Weedlem points from across the table. “I’ll be back for victory.” He assures, as though the tournament would somehow be continuing. [break][break]

A Muk is released into the bar’s drunken, makeshift defenses. ‘MUK,’ it says, as it slouches over a bit of fire. However, the alcohol fuels it, and it is not snuffed out. The stench of burning chemicals becomes strong instantly. ‘MUUUUUUUUK!’ the pokemon screams, flailing its goopy arms, aflame. [break][break]

People scream and flames rise, however, it seems that the building is so packed that not everyone is aware immediately of what is going on.[break][break]

A lone, drunk bridesmaid swings from the microphone stand on the other side of the establishment, wearing the ‘DO NOT TOUCH’ sign around her neck. Mascara runs down her face and her pink margarita sloshes. She wails loudly with feedback, [break][break]

“BUUUILT THIS CITY, BUILTHIS-BUILT THIS CITY ON ROOOOCK AND ROLLLL—”

SLATEPORT BEACH: WATER / FAIRY

There were the muffled sounds of Wingulls, and the crashing of water against the surrounding rock of the small cove. The waves became gradually less aggressive further into a naturally hidden cave, which eventually revealed a modest dock.

Roach sat on the edge of it, ragged boots hanging off and fishing pole cast out far. A free hand smoked a cigarette and he daydreamed into the reflection of the water on the stone wall. His face was dull, matching that of the Cubone which sat beside him.

Another day in paradise.

Roach drew from his cigarette with a neutral look, if not a touch smug, and returned the Malamar in a red glow. Damn straight.

Another pokemon was released. This time, a Mandibuzz appeared. It screeched loudly as it began to fly down the tunnel, disappearing. Patrolling, to be sure no one was using the tunnel ahead of them. “I always send ‘er out ahead.” He explained, turning to walk towards the car. “Le’s go, then.”

It was a dirt-cheap sedan with some black paint peeling off the original silver—one that wouldn’t cost him a dime to drive into the water if need be. Old as it was, the door shut with a similar clang to the truck in the parking lot above them. It sputtered. A police scanner fuzzed to finicky life along with it, a signal booster only doing so much to support it underground.

A puff of smoke blew out the window.

Even without the drag of Slateport traffic, the drive was several miles. It would take a few minutes to reach the other end, despite maintaining a speed of around 50 mph.

The air in the cool tunnel whipped wildly and his baritone spoke loudly over it. “So, how’d you find out?” About his business, of course.

“You think so?”

His smirk agreed, despite his teasing. There it was. This woman had placed her trust in him, that easily. It was sort of jarring, considering the haul. He liked her; she was cute. For this reason alone, he would not take advantage.

When they went down the steps, an unseen eye was already watching them, and opened the door. A gruff looking, armed man and his Tepig looked up at them and grunted, stepping aside and then closing the door when they’d entered. His eye hung on Alexandra Briarwood , suspiciously, but Roach kept walking, paying him no mind and sparing nary a passing glance. He ran this place.

At first it would look like an extension of the bar. The stairs that led down, visible from a certain angle upstairs if you leaned over the counter. Always off-limits. Below, another two pool tables, several gaudy rugs, more cigars, leather. Moody lighting.

He kept walking. Opened a door and held it for her. A couple of turns, and they came to another door which opened to what appeared to be a dead-end cave. It was cold and whispery. There were outlines in the dust where cages had come and gone, since it’d been swept last--yesterday. His hand went for a pokeball, and a Malamar was released.

“This is what’s really down ‘ere. Don’ tell nobody.”

The Malamar glowed and so did the rocky wall in front of them. It shook, and lowered, to reveal what was actually going on.

Underneath the unassuming pub known as Ritual was a tunnel that went all the way under Slateport City, and eventually towards water—and a port. Several of Rocket knew about it. Of course, the higher ups, but maybe not someone as new as Lex. Then again, maybe she did. Or, maybe she'd heard rumors.

“Goes all the way out t’ the water.”

He reached to the side, grabbed a large lever and pulled it up with a light grunt. Beams of low light gradually flickered on, down to the next ‘door’ which opened to sea breeze and salty air. His chin nodded towards it, although it was so far that it was impossible to see. Luckily, a small sedan and a boxtruck sat close by.

“Wan’ go t’ the beach?” He’d show her where to dock everything. Or drive it. Either worked, really. This was still the route. He removed another cigarette from his pocket and lit it casually.

“I’m always ready, Lex. I’m a businessman, make no mistake.” Eyes went in her direction again, flashed teeth with a slant. His jaw cut across a line in the air as he shook his head once. “Jus’ didn’t know whether to take ya seriously er not.”

A finger came up to scratch his bearded chin a moment. “You must trust me, ‘uh?” There was a teasing tone to his Unovan drawl. To offer a front without ever having dealt with him; without having to ask for it. He didn’t need it. He could pull a wad out of his pocket and buy the whole stock. That was usually how he operated, because he had the clientele.

His eyes narrowed a moment and he shook his head again, clicking his tongue. “Someone’s gon’ get you, girl.” It was lilting—not so much intentionally condescending as it was habitual. His leveling would tell that it wouldn’t be him, not this time. This was a friendly warning. “Gotta know what yer inventory’s worth, else yer jus’ gettin’ robbed.”

He added one more tip, eyebrows stretched up on his face severely as he bestowed his last grain of wisdom. “When money’s involved? Never admit you don’t know sum’m.”

“But sure, I’ll move ‘em. I'll even be fair with ya.” He popped the door on an old handle, pushing it open with a muffled screech. “Show ya the operation, if ya want.” He nodded towards a stairwell which led into the bottom of the pub—a separate speak-easy.

Tomorrow night was sooner than expected. The idea of this actually happening at all was not something he’d necessarily been confident in, agreeing to it. He nodded twice, his shoulders rocking with it a little. Okay. Not the potential business partner he’d been expecting—didn’t look a damn thing like Price. Roach wouldn’t complain, though.

He sighed. ”’s quicker ‘an I thought, but that’s fine.”

A hand went up to scratch his chin. “Y’know, hold up. 'fore we go gettin' into all this: how many and how much are you talkin’?” Roach preferred to buy low-price bulk. He was at the top. Was she an acquirer, or just another dealer? He eyed her, genuinely curious. The fact he'd agreed to this without asking was enough to make him smirk at her, and his own foolishness.

Roach’s eyes left her briefly to find the end of his cigarette while he cupped it with rough hands to protect a flame. ‘Mm.’ It was almost a grunt. Puff.

“Well, Miss Desmarais, is yer name in fact on that contract? Cause I’ve never given you money before, and I can’t say I’ve ever given anyone money without product.” He raised eyebrows at the younger woman. Rich kid. Early twenties? Mad at her father?

Yeah... he would hold onto his money for now.

“I kinda figure, if yer name’s on a contract, ya might know what those terms are, don't cha think?” He took another drag.

“Hm.” He wasn’t sure what to think about her strategy. Sometimes, taking a risk was better than letting a good haul go—at least, in his book. On the other hand, being so strapped for a place to put them that she had to reach out to a stranger was questionable.

Either way, this woman seemed to know his deal. His guard dropped. “Fine, fine. I’ll take ‘em.” He pinched the cherry off of his cigarette, not wanting to litter his own lot. “So when’s the shipment comin’?” He finally looked over at her, raising his brows expectantly. All flirtatiousness had been dropped aside. Roach was a money man.

IN THE DISTANCE, YOU ALL HEAR SCREAMING. There is a sudden visual explosion of glitter, sashes, and phallic novelty items. The queen, bearing her identifying tiara and an empty fishbowl elegantly labeled ‘BRIDE’ has taken over. Her court is fierce, demanding, and utterly reckless.[break][break]

Combined, they are a force unstoppable. Their battle-worn general leads the fray with a look of savage determination. It reads that, by Arceus, they will be entertained, or all shall perish. [break][break]

“RITUAL IS OURS!” They announce, like Vikings descending on an unsuspecting village of drunks, waving their inflatable dicks around wildly.[break][break]

Shifted into high gear, you see Bartender Lonnie Booker release his Vanillite. The two seem to make a great team as the pokémon begins sending ice into a long line of tumblers in a flashy, arcing trick. Eat your heart out, Tom Cruise. [break][break]

Bar Owner virgil roach goes to help out behind the bar somewhat frantically.[break][break]

Meanwhile, at the pool tables, several people have not shown up. No matter. This is to be expected, and it’s a high possibility a few of them had gotten to the door and decided this was not worth it. Who could blame them?[break][break]

However, with a packed building, we are hardly short of willing competitors. Names are easily replaced, and these new opponents approach the tables.[break][break]
