WELCOME TO RITUAL!

FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, drinks are half-off. It’s a bold and confusing move for a pool tournament, but hey, go big or go home![break][break]

Despite it being only Thursday, after an ominous tip via text, virgil roach has realized he’s bitten off more than he can chew. A dumpy, dull looking character is hired off the streets as makeshift security. He sits at the door with a flashlight, which he is struggling to keep in working order, shaking it often. Oh no.[break][break]

People have SWARMED. A slew of the city’s best (and worst) drunks, have come to guzzle cheaply and make things awkward and chaotic for the unsuspecting participants of Ritual's first Pool Tournament. It seems that even Slateport University has been tipped off![break][break] People are overwhelming the staff, and employees are, of course, welcome to jump behind the bar whenever! Kendra sees you, you slacker![break][break]

Regular patrons will find that the typical two tables have been moved a few meters to the west to make room for more, all of them in a neat row under freshly dusted, hanging fixtures. [break][break]

@everett ’s piano sits covered, for now, in hopes that any out-of-control drunkenness during the event will not attract unwanted attention to Ritual’s most vulnerable new furnishing. To the side of it is a microphone on a stand with a sign around it that simply reads “do not touch.” It is very tempting. [break][break]Alternatively, there is a jukebox for all of your musical desires, which you can access anonymously through an app on your phone if you'd rather not be caught picking through it to cue your guiltiest pleasure.[break][break][break]

If you are participating, you will find your opponent on a dry-erase bracket board near the pool tables. Your opponent has been randomly drawn. Names are not exactly as follows, as some of these characters may have signed up with a different desired identity![break][break]

A game starts with a break! Roll to determine who will break the balls up, and then roll again and apply the following:[break][break]

6-10 — eight ball / lose[break]

11-75 — no balls in[break]

76-85 — one ball in[break]

86-90 — two balls in[break]

91-96 — three balls in [break]

97-99 — four balls in[break]

Edit your post and roll for each ball you’ve made. 1-50 determines the ball is solid, 51-100 rolls stripes. You may determine the ball’s number if you wish for flavor, otherwise, it may be left up to your opponent. This won't affect the game.[break][break]

Include in your edited notes how this occurs. The cue ball either doesn't reach the others, or it sinks in a pocket. Both have the same result.[break][break]

1. Games start when you start them. Once you BREAK, you have ONE WEEK (by the minute) to complete your game.[break][break]

2. Games will be forfeited by the deadline if not completed, in which case the character remaining in the round will finish the game with an NPC over a time extension. It will take a little longer, but this is for the sake of fairness. Additionally, you will play an NPC for the whole round if your opponent fails to start the game. These NPCs will then be part of the game, and it is possible for them to win. If they do, the next closest OCs will still win the prizes.[break][break]

3. There are typically three tables in Ritual. However, for the sake of streamlining, play around this. Pretend there are more. It's fine.[break][break]

4. DM Mad on Discord once a game / your round is complete![break][break]

5. There will be prizes! However, they are a surprise. For now, let's just say the grand prize is a Slowbro.[break][break]

It was utter chaos in Ritual. She had never seen it like this and quite frankly it made her a bit annoyed. Since when did her quiet, seedy dive bar get so popular? The half-off drink sign near the entrance reminded her immediately why. Word spread fast in Slateport, apparently. Hopefully, this didn’t change the dynamics of her favorite place to sip whiskey.

Lex pushed through the entrance and into the bar with the same grin she normally did, fuel by the anticipation of good whiskey and a good time. For the first time, she didn’t arrive alone. Killian Decker wasn’t far behind her. Lex weaved her way to the bar where she saw Lonnie and Kendra scrambling wide-eyed and slightly panicked at the sudden rush. Lonnie was smart enough to acknowledge the regular with a subtle nod and sideways glance while he poured drinks for other patrons. She flashed him the number 2 with her fingers. Lex’s order was predictable and easy to get out of the way. There were two top-shelf, neat whiskeys in front of her in no time.

“For you, my love,” she smiled, handing Killian one of the glasses. It was a particularly smokey blend with lingering notes of caramel, spice, and a soft burn. The area around the pool tables was less crowded in anticipation of the tournament. Lex led them over there to glance at the bracket. Thankfully, they weren’t playing each other in the first round, “Yuan Wright,” she read, lifting a brow. She recognized the name but couldn’t put a face to it. kris flynn-edwards, on the other hand, she knew quite well.

In an effort to keep the piano silent, Lex drew her phone from her pocket and queued up JET’S – ARE YOU GONNA BE MY GIRL? on the electronic jukebox. Classic.

With half-price drinks and an opportunity to put Remiel Calcifet ’s boasted pool skills to the test, how could he possibly refuse signing them both up to Ritual’s hotly anticipated tournament night? Especially with a rumoured prize whispered among the patrons… [break][break]

They’re positioned at a circular, standing bar table that’s already sticky on the wooden surface and smelling faintly of lemons by the time they get there. The previous occupants having spilt most of their citrusy drinks it seemed, rather than tipping them down their throats. It was the only one available at the time they entered the packed establishment however and so, leaving Remy to guard their spot, Angelo had tackled the bumping of shoulders and clumsy, shuffling feet in front of the bar. [break][break]

He appears unfazed by it all however when he returns with full hands and a only slightly lighter wallet, brushing the empty cocktail glasses to the other end of the table and making room for their beer bottles, clinking merrily as they bump together.[break][break]

“Bad news, Rem. They're fresh out of Kalosian merlot, age: older than us both combined.” One of the cheap, standard beers is pushed in the ambassador’s direction instead as a substitute. “But I got you the next closest thing.” They’re outrageously different in comparison, actually but if Angelo is aware or did it deliberately, it doesn't show on his easy-going expression.[break][break]

“So who’s your first victim? Think they’re ready for your 'unparalleled' skills?” His lips curl impishly around the edge of his bottle, turning to lean his back against the table while he takes a swig, gaze sweeping towards the board close by. Tilting his chin to peer over the small group of people surrounding the names listed tournament style, Angelo scans for Remiel’s name along with his own. [break][break]

His eyes land upon his own first, a familiar name scrawled beside it that brings a small flicker of recognition. Ki... Ki...? Angelo doesn't think on it long before turning his attention back to his friend, unable to put a name to a face. That sensation of recognition is a familiar one to the courier, after all.

Pool is not part of Valerio's street cred.

The closest he ever gets playing one is through street soccer where their makeshift ball of garbage or sometimes a worn down ball is being kicked to the trash bin "pocket" and they're not even following the same set of rules. He considers the game as an elite pasttime and never bothers learning it that's why it is a surprise that the pool table in his favorite bar in downtown Slateport is more than just a display for its loyal customers.

“Baby, tell me how to play that thing, will you? I'll give you half the reward if I win!”

Slate Milhaus is a Rocket, and perhaps not a lot of people know that. Not even everyone knows about Team Rocket being well and functioning not until Declan's declaration. And because of it, he knows all about the redhead Beast's antics and how to ignore it despite him being very pushy.

“The prize is a pokemon. Half a pokemon has no use for me. And it will be just a bloody mess.”

Valerio is spending his time on the counter with Slate, waiting for Cillian Quinn to arrive. It's funny how the match are made with him competing against a fellow Rocket in a Rocket-filled environment. It genuinely a curious sight to see unexpected people in this part of town, especially the likes of Remiel Calcifet and FERNANDO SILPH with esteemed League reputation.

“How about free drinks?”

“I'm a bartender.”

With the sound of Alexandra Briarwood's song on the jukebox, he gulps the last of his liquor, giving the bartender a rolling eyes and a sly grin before he dances away. He loves trying to break down the walls of guys like Slate. Too bad Valerio's not even a quarter high scaling his high barrier.

Wright was no stranger to Pool, he highly enjoyed this game, and many others. When he wasn't in the labs often he would go to little casinos or even bars like this. So to hear that there was a tournament he was more than excited to take part. Having come a tad early to order himself a few shots before moving over to the pool tables and taking a new stick to use. Wright uses the cue chalk on the stick as he was about to go looking for whoever this Alexandra Briarwood character was until he heard his name and smirks.[break][break]

"That would be moi," he calls out from behind the other, making sure not to be too close as he's been in enough bars to know they were not the crowd to come up behind. "Don't worry I'll go easy on you since you're young," he teases with a wink, not that he had any real intentions. He moves back to the pool table he's already claimed as he picks up one of the shot glasses he ordered and motions for her to take the other one he ordered as an extra. [break][break]

"To a good game yee?" with that he downs his shot, and if she didn't want the one he offered he'd take that too. Cause why let it go to waste. [break][break]

Just as the first few beats of her song selection started playing, the masculine voice of Yuan Wright called out to her, announcing his presence. When she spun around to face him, he’d find a set of amber eyes sparkling with a predatory quality and a mischevious grin across her red lips to match. It seemed her opponent was ready and waiting, and Lex was more than happy to get things started.

There was a soft laugh after his tease as she walked towards the billiard table, “Don’t get ahead of yourself, old timer” she teases back, “There’s more to this than meets the eye,” she placed a hand on her hip, the small shrug implying she meant herself. Despite having eyes for only one man in this particular room, Lex could be a shameless flirt. Especially if it got her what she wanted. She was honestly terrible at pool, she just really enjoyed the playful, competitive banter and the chance to kick some ass if she was in the right groove.

“To a good game,” she agreed, lifting the other shot glass to cheers the scientist. Like the seasoned pro she was, the shot was taken smoothly and with a smile.

"Can't wait, but don't get my hopes too high, you'll break this old man's heart by promising a challenge you can't live up to," he continues with chuckle glad to have a good sport. Way to often did others take this to seriously and games like this were all about fun! And a little but of math, but no one ever appreciated the math part of it, rude. [break][break]

"What kind of gentlemen would I be if I didn't allow that?" he chuckles before doing as asked. Besides who knew if the other knew how to properly rack them seeing as there was a certain order the billiard balls needed to go. As from what the sign ups suggested this was a tournament open to all skill sets. [break][break]

With all balls set and a fun little jiggle of the balls before lifting the rack up and leaving the balls open for her to hit. "Show me what you got"

Lex was glad Yuan Wright had a good sense of humor. This would be a fun game, “I’ll try not to disappoint,” she laughed while polishing off her cue stick with some chalk.

After taking a sip of whiskey from her glass on a nearby table she readied herself for her break. Leaning over she set up her shot, drawing back a few calculating times before making a sharp move forward to strike the cue ball.

The break was decent. She hit the cluster well and the balls scattered but none found their way to a pocket. Lex frowned while she stood back up, "Bummer . . . you're up, Wright," Lex moved back towards the table where her whiskey sat to take another sip and see what Wright had up his sleeve.

Chu-e saunters into the bar with all the confidence of a master.

Which is kind of just like advanced lying, since he has never played pool before in his life. Like, pool was one of those things you would kind of expect a career criminal to know. It was in a lot of books and movies, the bad guys plotting and planning in shady bars while playing a round.... but not Chu-e. And, like, sure. He had been around pool tables. Spent lots of time in grimy bars. Even bent a woman over one to use for extra leverage to snap her arms once. But played? No. Never.

This would be either a very easy win for angelo vestri or Chu-e would have some batshit amazing beginner's luck.

The only reason he had even signed up was... well... he didn't know why. Probably boredom. A lot of his day, when not doing Rocket type things, was pretty basic. He wondered if his partner was here already. May as well check the board. "Hmm... Vestri..." The name was familiar but he couldn't place why. He scanned the bar, eyes lighting on a few familiar faces in the crowd. He gave a wave to Valerio Dachev before his eyes caught on Angelo, and Remiel Calcifet, and he smiled wide before walking over. Had Remy seen his public persona yet? Well, first thing for everything.

"Angelo?" It took a moment, but he kind of remembered their last encounter. It had been a while back, attacking some Snorlax; he was also one of the people in the video he had taken at the Church. Small world. "I'm Ji-Hoon! I think we've met before!" He offered his hand anyway to shake. The last time they had met, Chu-e had been a bit sicker and hadn't been as perky. Today he was in top form and ready to dazzle.

Strolling in alongside Alexandra Briarwood, Killian immediately notes the crowded nature of the bar. It doesn't bother him in the same way it does his lover. Whose annoyance is evident to him despite her grin. Seedy with an almost noir-like feel to it - it's the type of place he expected Lex too frequent. Not that Killian had any room to talk. Sordid locals tucked away in the shadows of a city's underbelly was where he did his best work.

Information flowed through them like water through a pipe. Secrets passed along from the loose lips of the drunk and neglectful. Killian might not stalk them as he used to, hungry for the secrets of their patron's, but he'd never forgotten their importance.

"Thanks, gorgeous." he flashes Lex a suggestive smile and takes the glass. The buttery aroma of caramel wafts towards his nose as he brings the drink to his lips. He expects the whiskey to go down hard but is pleasantly surprised at the gentle warmth that fills his chest. "Your choice in alcohol never ceases to amaze." and her taste in music wasn't too bad either.

Of course, they hadn't come to Ritual to enjoy each other's company. They were here for the pool tournament. Well, Lex was, despite signing up, Killian couldn't care less. He just didn't want to miss the chance to watch Lex showcase her talent. Correction, her lack of talent. She could steal a ring off your finger without an issue. But put a pool cue in her hand and get ready to watch her struggle.

It was cute.

Lex found her opponent before he did. "Good luck," he said, a playful and mischievous smile crossing his lips. Killian continued to sip his drink, enjoying the show while he waited for his opponent.

"Not bad, I've seen much worse," he comments as he circles the pool table as in his mind imaginary lines are made in his head to see what would line up best with the cue ball. "Once had a newbie somehow miss the rack completely and somehow made the cue ball fly off the table, solid 3," Wright lines himself up and takes a shot. It was a bit too soft but it gets in the hole all the same making him just smirk.

Nice, though his luck and calculations could only get him so far as his next shot just bumps into another and, "Ah phooey, you know I think is the lack of something fun on," he chuckles as he uses his phone to put on a person favorite of his.

Although Lex was fully invested in the game, her amber eyes would occasionally wander over to find Killian Decker. She couldn’t help it. Speaking of which . . . she pulled her phone back out of her pocket and tapped a few times on the screen with bring up kris flynn-edwards’s number.

Hey! Ritual??

She typed before hitting send and tucking it back in her pocket. She thought she saw Valerio Dachev here too, maybe he would know where Flynn was at. Anyway, he attention turned back to the game when the sound of a ball falling into a pocket indicated she was already losing. Great.

Lex frowned as he made a second shot. Lex shot Yuan Wright a playful sideways glance, “What? You didn’t like my selection?” she teased as she moved towards the table to take her turn. The redhead stood there for a moment, surveying the scattered balls across the table. There was no way she was as calculating as Wright, but she tried to make it look like she knew what she was doing.

Taking up a position behind the cue ball she lined up her first shot.

"15" she called, pointing to it with her stick. The 15 barely made it into the corner and Lex sighed in relief. Close one.

Her eye was on the 13 next. She ran her tongue across her lips in concentration as she bent over to line up for the stripe after pointing towards it with her stick. It was a long shot down the side rail perfectly executed. She stood back up with a smile, surveying the options.

Could she really make a third ball this round? She might die of surprise if that actually worked out. There was a straight shot into the corner pocket of the 14 calling her name, "14!" she said in a cheerful tone, executing yet another shot. Damn, she was on fire.

But all luck runs out. Lex moved to attempt the 11 stripe into the side pocket but it was a bank shot off the opposite rail which failed epically. Over all though, she was satisfied with her luck, "Too disappointing for you, Wright?" she teased, glancing back at him while she walked back over to enjoy her whiskey.

Your first choice-" french kiss, "lovely, it's what started playing after that made me go- meeeh," as he says this he overly cringes his face in a dramatic fashion as his hand rotates in a so-so manner. He gives a heartily laugh as she is able to get an extra in over him. "Trying to hustle me are we? I guess I need to up my game a tid bit then." With her latest miss he twirls the stick before doing a quick line up and taking the shot to hit it in. [break][break]

"This next one though?" he brings up as he moves himself to the other side of the table to line of with the cue ball as he's already done the math, "Just watch one and seven," there's the line up as the imaginary lines show up in his head as he makes his calculations before hitting the white ball and flawlessly it knocks into one of the striped balls before it knocks into both 1 and 7 to knock them both into the same pocket. [break][break]

Though his seems with that shot hit brought the cue to a terrible position. Ah well couldn't hit them all, with it all he could do is hit the ball into a hopefully more difficult position to get the stripes in.
