The mist overwhelms in an instant, filling the room to the brim. Now more than ever, Killian's become the very thing Fernando assumed him to be, a rat. Held hostage inside a vorpal cage of fumes which Fernando controlled entirely. [break][break]

Suffocated by the terrain, there's no choice but to breathe it in. The breath comes almost instinctively as the figure forms behind Killian's captor. Pink vapors snake up his nose, delicious in its smell, insidious in its intentions. It keeps him rooted in his seat despite the violent urge to stand.[break][break]

"What are you -" [break][break]

A dull, throbbing pain pulsed at the back of Killian's mind - a scar left behind by nightmares willingly endured slowly tears itself open. [break][break]

"So smart but so stupid at the same time. I thought you were better than this?"[break][break]

Louder now than before, the familiar phantom of a voice returns.[break][break]

"What are you doing?" strained, he focused on the figure - one he doesn't recognize. "Who's behind you?"

What a simple but important question. One Killian's asked a lot throughout his life. He straightened as gravity lightened on his body. [break][break]

"I don't blame you for disliking them." Killian wasn't particularly fond of Rocket either, but they were a necessary evil to get what he wanted. "As for why I'm here," he cleared his throat, hand carefully sliding into his pocket. "It's like I said, I wanted to talk." a pensive smile lined his lips.[break][break]

Callous in her laugh, Katherine more than lives up to her moniker, and Killian can't help but frown. The intensity of which grows as pressure builds on his shoulders. He hardly noticed at first, but once he feels himself start to sag toward the ground, the Zoroark beside him groaning, it's clear what's going on. [break][break]

"Avatars." [break][break]

How bitterly Killian resented but wanted their power for himself. A dichotomy that he's only recently begun to wrap his head around. Still - it could be far worse, and at least she's honest in her answer. [break][break]

"Very well." teeth gritted, he nodded to Zoroark, who drops the illusion. The flickering light shimmers as the mirage fades to reveal the pair's presence. [break][break]

"Killian." he introduced himself, "We've met before, do you recall?"

Fernando has a point. The fact Killian is here at all speaks to a casual disregard for his usual caution. A waning of skills that served him well for years. He'd gotten too relaxed in Hoenn. [break][break]

Having Alexandra Briarwood back in his life put blinders on him, and it shouldn't have. [break][break]

"Rat." [break][break]

Killian's smile broke at the word, lips tucking into a frown that only grew as mist spread into the room. A sweet aroma wafted to his nostrils, a teasing tentacle of allure inviting him to breath deep. [break][break]

"And how do you plan to do that, Mr.Silph?"[break][break]

First Lulu Flint, then Cillian Quinn, and now FERNANDO SILPH. Killian can't seem to escape from the machinations of Avatars. You wouldn't be remiss in thinking he got off on the rush of challenging those whose power far exceeded his own. In some ways, maybe he does. Regardless, his pension for poking beings of higher power bares its ugly teeth. [break][break]

There's no subtle way to approach someone in the dead of night. Least of all, when that person declared war on you and your people. No matter how Killian sliced it, this would go one of two ways. Either bad or horrible. [break][break]

No one's ever fine when they answer like that. Killian hadn't been on Mt.Pyre and she'd seen straight through the lie. But now's not the time to press. He needed Lex at the top of her game. Not arguing in her thoughts, distracted.

"I'm here if that changes." he reminds her.

The same time Lex says she ready, new hands are dealt to the players. A 13 and a 5 land on Killian's side of the table. He smiles, sliding a stack of silver chips worth 2,000 Poke forward.

Let the games begin.

"She'll tell me if she sees him won't she?"

A thought meant only for him reaches into her mind.

"Why not, Lis?" he chuckled, "You're the one with all the experience." Older brothers were supposed to tease their younger siblings, right? Killian wasn't sure. It felt right but wrong at the same time, and it carried into his smile. Subtle, the loss of shine is likely noticeable only to Alexandra Briarwood.

Killian didn't have much time for personal introspection, unfortunately. Another hungry customer stepped up to the counter. His Slowking input their order into the register, and it appeared on a screen in the kitchen.

"Swablu Shaved Ice and Eiscue Caprese Salad."

Who ordered shaved ice this early in the morning? Killian scrunched his face dramatically and sighed. His eyes fell on Lex as his Pokemon worked hard to complete the Swablu portion of the order. The look in his eyes said the same thing her frown did.

"Get me the fuck out of here."

From the back, Lapras angled her head in from an open window. She eyeballed the distance to a cup filled with Powder Snow and held tightly by a Cubchoo. Her shot lined up; she fired an Ice Beam through the window.

At the same time, a recently acquired Cloyster unleashed an Aurora Beam. The two ice attacks combined, lighting the kitchen in a vibrant array of colors. They hit the powdered snow and solidified into a beautiful blue dome resembling a Swablue's head.

The only thing it was missing now was a sweet kiss.

And so was Killian, for that matter. He snuck over to Lex when amaryllis karneva was (hopefully) not paying attention to steal a kiss.

"Thank you." he whispered.

It's a story that mirrors his own. Nice to know that their dad didn't play favorites with his children. "I'm sorry to hear that." sympathy isn't a trait Killian often showed. In the world he lived in, it's liable to get you killed. Yet it's there in his voice. Like it had been for Alexandra Briarwood when she'd shared the burden of her suffering with him.

Pursing his lips, Killian rested his hands on the table and grew quiet. The noise of the mall turning to static in his ears. Silence. It wrapped around him like a blanket, but it's not Killian that needs the embrace. It's Chase.

"Don't feel bad he doesn't know about me either."

The implication hangs in the air waiting for him to grasp it. All Chase needed to do is reach for the truth, pull it like a string, and watch everything he knew unravel.

"The anger will fade eventually, trust me."

He's reminded of flying on Aubie with Alexandra Briarwood. Although those flights had been a bit more intimate in nature.

"Our first stop is Dewford Town."

His focus shifts back to Fernando, eyes pulled toward the papers like a magnet. What's written on those pages? Info on Killian Decker, the criminal from Johto who'd served his time? Or details about Kaito Nakada, the mobster whose depravity knew no limits? [break][break]

"Caught in a cage like one of your rats."[break][break]

The only way to find out is to test the waters. But skepticism nips at him, the possibility of a bluff all too real. Using blank papers to provide the illusion of information is a common tactic. He'd seen it done before.[break][break]

"Sloppy?" he chuckled, "I've got no idea what you're talking about." Killian leaned back in his seat, letting the posture he'd just taken the time to fix collapse into a slouch. An arm is thrown casually over the back of the chair. [break][break]

"But since you seem like the man with all the answers," he nodded to the papers, "Why don't you tell me?"
