“Canta Per Me,” she replied, without hesitation. Naturally, that song was not hers. She had not written it, but she had always loved it regardless. It was hearing that song, way back when, that had first gotten her to see music as something she could love, not just something she pursued because mother would praise her for it. Plus, it informed a lot of her view of the world itself. “Singing, a melancholic, yet also celebratory ode to one you love in passing, being able to look back at a life full of pain, yes, but also genuine happiness, a hymn to death not filled with regret that life might be coming to an end but gratefulness for having been blessed to have lived it. Ah, just thinking about the melody gives me goosebumps sometimes,” she further elaborated, a bit of a blush on her face but no wavering in her voice. This wasn’t her trailing off fangirling about a nice song she had heard. This was Evette explaining her feelings towards a piece of art. Mayhap a bit unprovoked, but she felt sincerity was appropriate.

Shaymin, of course, knew absolutely nothing of that. In fact, it was far too engrossed in the chase until it triumphantly booped the other – being way too enthusiastic about it and ending up lightly tackling the other, causing them to tumble over, if not stopped.

Well, that reaction was a bit obvious. Not that she minded too much. It was always more comfortable conversing with someone who was not putting up too much of an act. Well, too much being operational. Everyone did wear a mask, after all. Some just had more expressive ones, like this. Maybe she could use that as a lyric somewhere?[break][break]

Oh, right, the conversation that was stalling. “Oh, believe me, I was just as surprised when I was given the option. Especially when the head ranger told me about his whole ordeal of catching that one. But, well, my offer was quite rare as well and I am not one to complain about these sorts of lucky incidents,” she replied with a smile and a shrug. Honestly, this had kind of fallen into her lap, to an extent. But she definitely would not complain.

Fortunately though, there was also the matter of music. One that saw her sigh a little. “Well, I do sing mostly classical or more in the direction of Pop, depending on the audience and avenue. I am mostly trained classical, but that just translates decently well to broad appeal as well.” Spoken like the daughter of an old songstress turned manager, indeed. Maybe that was part of the problem. But there was not too much she could do in that regard, either.

The Shaymin, in the meantime, were initiating a game of their own. While Evette’s was still a bit unsure what to do and where to direct its energy, the other quite clearly showed the path in that regard. It was easy enough to understand, after all. So, the one that was ‘it’ right now would try to rush the other and boop right back.

“I spent quite a while in Alola, right before coming here. I also visited Johto very briefly. And I guess there was that one trip to Unova with my family, but that was years ago,” she mused, briefly tilting her head and thinking in the process. There had probably been a few more, but she was not someone who had been too aware of borders for most of her lives. One of the peaks of growing up in privileged family like hers.

It certainly wasn’t like this man. While she had ‘left’ Kalos back then, it had always been with the expectation of one day returning there. One day not too far into the future, really, but she was trying to procrastinate on that was best as possible anyway. A shift in topic helped with that too, at least in a little way. “Fighting is human nature, so I guess it will never truly stop. And this region seems to be a magnet for calamity anyway, so I guess nature itself is not going to let us just stop fighting and living normal lives. Well, at least to some degree, right?”

Okay. All of this was a bit much all at once. Probably because those were not exactly Kalosian legends. Apparently, this man knew them quite well, but to her, this was all kind of new. She could have read up on things more before going in here, but she figured that it would be best to go in blind. After all, one could learn best when one had an open mind.

Though maybe knowing nothing was a bit too open in that regard. All she could do for now was to nod and give the other the shield, following his lead. “I guess you know these Pokemon a bit better than me. I will just follow what you lay down.” That was not difficult, after all. Following instructions, singing notes supplied to others, that was always much easier than coming up with her own melodies. Eve sighed slightly at where her mind was going there, but soon decided to first focus on what was in front of her for the time being, taking cover with the stranger.

Well, that certainly was a more imaginative nickname than her own. But not by too much. Which Evette figured was still better, so she had to give this round to the stranger. Sure, she got a name, but a stranger by any name was still a stranger. At least until some more information was added.

“I have not even given mine a nickname. I just got it in a trade about a week ago,” she replied, deciding to be honest about it. Sure, that was a bit of an excuse, but she considered it to be more of a reason than anything else, really. “Anyway, I am Evette Moreau, Kalosian by descent and wandering songstress by volition. A pleasure to make your acquaintance,” she introduced herself with some pep, as if trying to regain her momentum.

Speaking of that, the momentum left her Shaymin as the tumble came to a close. Evette’s specimen recovered first and started to prance around the other as if to initiate some play without really knowing what it wanted itself.

Ah. So that was how it worked, in particular. “Ah, I see. I have just been referred to this by one of the higher-up rangers to test it out, but I have not gotten much information about how it all works.” That person was probably still trying to recruit her, in a way. It was not working so far, but she could not fault the man for trying. It was endearing, in a way. But she still was a singer first and did not want to officially declare for any side and become a ranger. It just was not what she wanted for the future.

But that was really not important. Especially not when they were transported yet again, this time to a more war-torn area. She had not exactly seen many Dynamax Pokemon before, she eyed them curiously at first, instead of sneering at them like he did. It was somewhat easy to see that they were dangerous, though. This was a simulation, so the danger was not real – but she still did not want to lose. Hence, Evette briefly mulled things over before giving a gentle nod and reaching for the shield again. “On three, then?”

Naturally, the happy go lucky Shaymin did not even for a second miss its brethren appearing right near them. Its song stopped not abruptly but simply faded out as it allowed the note to waver, only to then exclaim something in the ancient Shaymin tongue itself – and rush right towards the other one.
With way too much momentum, causing it to crash into its brethren and both of them to tumble along, unless the other thought quickly enough to put an end to that.

Which, of course, only added to Evette’s surprise of actually seeing another of these rare Pokemon, replacing that instead with a bit of shock. “Oh my. I am really sorry about that one,” she exclaimed to the other trainer that had come in sight while rushing after her own rambunctious Pokemon.

Evette had to admit that she was not quite feeling it on this day. Or maybe she was, but just not enough. Eve sighed, still slightly frustrated with herself. She had hoped that visiting this very rural part of the region would help spark something. But maybe that, in itself was a Fool’s Errand. After all, inspiration was not something that came to anyone on demand. She knew this. But at the same time, if she did nothing that might trigger it, she was bound to fail too, wasn’t she?

“Damned if you do, damned if you don’t,” she mused to herself quietly while she watched the little one trot along in front of her. That did make her smile a little. For one, because that one just was cute in general – just another reason why it had not fit that ranger, of course – but also because it was so evidently enjoying herself. It even had decided to oppose the quiet of trail they were hiking on. But not in a way that pierced the veil of silence, but by hum-singing a melodious tune that, much like the Shaymin itself, somehow just managed to evoke flowers. It was enough to on one hand, like alert the other Shaymin nearby of their presence, while also distracted her from noticing the others nearby right away.

Ah, well, at least she had a name now. Hence, she carefully accepted the handshake, being more on the delicate than the firm side with that for the time being. “Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Calicfet. I am Evette Moreau,” she replied, believing that a proper introduction was in order first and foremost. That was what she had been taught from the youngest age, after all.

However, the time for introductions was cut short by the arrival of…a book? Well, at least that was what it looked like from below. And no, not a book-shaped Pokemon, judging by its appearances. She was not yet ready to rule that out just yet. “Is this Scarlet Book something I should know about? I fear I am fairly new to these simulations in general….” That hopefully would allow him to open up some explanations as to what was happening. Because she could not fully connect the Jigglypuff of sorts in the jungle with floating red books of unusual size, frankly.

“I am not exactly that popular,” she replied, jokingly. It hadn’t been long since she restarted doing proper shows, after all. And, frankly, her original content was still lacking. That muse she had been searching for all over the place, it still eluded her. But at least she was doing slow and steady work instead.

But then again, she could find what she was looking for right after this meal. Life was full of opportunities. And now she had someone else to potentially share these opportunities with. “Though I am always glad to see someone in the crowd that I know. Most artists are, even when it doesn’t seem like it.” She nodded and waved at him going. Given that she was not quite finished yet she did not want to keep him any longer, but also not appear rushed. They were both adults enough to not get offended by something like that. It was a decent enough meeting already after all, no reason to push things into one direction or another.

Ugh. Why did it have to be a horrible noise of all things? And right away? That was already annoying. The last simulation she had been in had had volcanoes and the like, but at least built up to that. But this? Just random scream, right away.

She usually was not one to get agitated quickly, but horrible noises did offend her on a fundamental level. Plus, her sense of hearing was a bit more finely tuned than most due to her occupation, so this felt like it was going right at her. Eve immediately put her hands on her ears and tried to isolate the source of the noise. It was not the Pokemon ushing away around her, but rather what looked like an aberrant Jigglypuff in the distance. However, before she could do much – and she preferred to keep her hands on her ears – her companion already decided to stop it. A decision she whole-heartedly agreed with.

Eve accepted the other ball, once more surprised as to how easy this all was. Probably because she was most used to high-society dealings where even getting a straight answer out of someone was quite a rarity. Something as simple as a trade was rather uncommon to her. Mostly because she had rarely done so during her travels.

Still though, she was glad for it. That little one had seemed to fit her a lot better than the big wing, after all. She was briefly lost in though as she stabbed her salad once more. Hence she felt an odd surprise when he pulled her back into things with a comment she could not quite work with yet. “21? Oh,” she replied, only now realizing that he had returned to mostly focusing on that game. Some people might have been annoyed by him shifting his attention away so quickly, but she did not mind much. “I am not going to pretend to understand the game. But I get what you mean about closer games. Even I know that those are a lot more interesting and….exhilerating.”

Ah, so he was getting to business already. She could not fault him. Eve put down her fork briefly, cleaning her hands before going after a specific Pokeball in her handbag. “I did bring it. I do not have that kind of grand adventure backstory for it, though. An old acquaintance gave it to me and I cannot really get along with it, frankly.”

She briefly shrugged, softly. “I think it is a matter of temperament more than anything. But it would likely be very useful for ranger duties. It seems fairly versatile and strong, though definitely not the kind of ride I would be looking for myself,” Evette noted, nodding to herself as she put the ball down. Honestly, this was the kind of thing that the green-haired lady would have liked, but she herself preferred smoother, more stable rides if she was being completely honest.
