This was very, very unlike the Safari she’d taken part in back in her own home region. Though she figured that was for one due to cultural differences, and for the other due to the season. This was the time of spooks, and given the directions she’d gotten from the warden’s office, Eve figured that they simply opened or closed parts of the zone depending on the current situation. She’d just gotten here during spooky times, so a spooky forest it was.

Though, being an old hare in this particular game already, it wasn’t like she was letting that get to her. After all, her own Ghastly was hovering next to her. Eve was no stranger at all to ghosts. And she was fully certain that actually dangerous Pokemon would not be included in this safari.

However, she did have her balls at the ready, in case she saw something moving. If they got away from her, she would be screwed out of a potential catch after all. Best not to risk that by being too casual about all this.

Oh? How forward. Holding hands like this already. She had not exactly imagined the girl to be this brazen, even if she fell short of actually vocalizing anything in that regard. Then again, that was how it usually worked, wasn’t it? The body knew. Those subconscious acts were always a better measure of truth than anything a person said, in her opinion.

Though actually mentioning that would probably break the spell, so she refrained from that. “It is nothing, really. After all, I do enjoy your company” was all she said in that regard, squeezing back just a little bit. “And I doubt you can truly let me down, dear. I can already tell that you will do your best, which is all I could possibly ask for.”
Plus, she would not really care about the battle anyway. Those were sometimes exhilarating and fun, sure. But most of all, she was already looking forward to having her day brightened up by the bubbly ballerina.

The touch almost makes her recoil, but she did realize that it was the man who kind of wanted to help. So far, that had not worked out. But she could easily enough accept the sentiment, at the absolute least.

Thus, she instead looked up towards him, watery eyes and a pang of guilt within them. “I….I think I know that it isn’t real. But isn’t it?” That was probably confusing. It confused her, at the very least. “I mean….this…this couldn’t just be made by someone else, right? No one here knows. Just…me. So if this isn’t real, and she is saying that, doesn’t that mean I think she’d say that? This can only be drawn from me, so I must be believing it…”

Was this altogether still Eve’s nightmare? It was probably a bit difficult to tell. The girl was still looking down, working through matters herself. Meanwhile, the apparition arched a bemused brow, looking down as well. Only it looked down upon this man. Since it was feeding on Eve’s subconscious, a case could be made that it was actually Eve pouncing on this, but that was a matter open to all kinds of debates.

All that could be said for sure was that in some capacity, it was real in that moment. And that was all that mattered. “My, it seems I have rabbled the rouble-rouser here indeed. Of course, when faced with harsh truths your kind only knows to react with adversity and immature little words. If it was not so…pedestrian, I might even consider it cute. At least she knows well enough to use the truth for self-evaluation. Meanwhile, you cannot even look the truth in the eye. After all, when has someone truly content with themselves and their situation ever have had to espouse such to others?”

“No, being content with what you are is ‘overrated’ as young people today would say.” These words did not come from Eve herself, though the voice does sound very, very similar. The stranger, by now, had been drawn into her own dream made ‘reality’, which allowed him to also see the new person to appear on the scene – a woman, beautiful despite her age, clad in a very classy gown of lavender silk would appear behind him. While her skin and voice gave some indication that she was related to Evette, who flinched and looked down upon herself, the figure’s face was fully obscured, as if it was simply too unfocused to be determined.

“Get away from her. She has to practice more and not be tainted by your pathetic influences. The likes of you may be content in the drags of society, but my girl will not stop improving herself until her voice can truly reach and touch the hearts of everyone. She has rested for too long already.”

She flinched lightly, when he grasped her shoulders. But that somewhat gentle grip, to her, felt like iron and his eyes as if they completely fixated hers. It was just the nature of this transitory mood, it upended every sensation into the worst variation possible within reason. And, just like that, his words came across much harsher, too.

Hence Eve vehemently shook her head. “No, no, that’s not true. I can do better! It isn’t futile to try! I-I know I haven’t really recently. But I can. I must. I have to. I can meet my-these expectations.” Though she did correct herself there hastily, afterwards she did fall stock-still regardless, as if the sound of her own words had caused something deep within.

It felt good to sign, really. But at some point, Eve noticed a certain….chill, really. It wasn’t a drastic change. Likely, nothing changed at all there. After all, she was still on a lonely mountain. Nothing ‘factually’ changed. But she became…more away of that loneliness. Of the emptiness. The moonlight that seemed like an ephemeral spotlight just a little while ago just turned to show the desolation of empty nature. And the echo that seemingly had picked up her voice before turned hollow, reverberating more thoroughly and picking itself up.

It was eerie. And she just felt cold, enough for her to suddenly stumble over her words, miss the tone – and then have someone assault her.
Well, it wasn’t an assault, but she did not see it coming. He bumped into her, but she stumbled and fell, feeling as if she had been shoved. And then, looming over her, he said one word that was a bane of artists all over the world.

‘Okay’. He called her ‘okay’ she did not clearly hear the rest of these words. But it was just okay. Not grand. Not even terrible. But just okay, the signifier of utter mediocrity. The worst possible outcome. Eve found her eyes watering slightly. “I….I am sorry. I can do better….can do better….”

It was ironic, that at luka chêne was dancing about in the dream state. Because someone that she did know at least somewhat well was affected quite differently, but also in the same way by the mist. While she had been somewhat withdrawn in this gathering so far, floating around, weaving through the crowd but not finding anyone to fully engage with, Eve had come to a stop now that the meteor had hit.

And somehow, she felt elated. The world around her seemed to have gone dark. For most people, that probably was a worrying thing, but not for her. She was used to it, in a way. Those moments of anxiousness, of anticipation that always came before the lights turned on. Yet, instead of a spotlight, what ultimately brought her light was nothing artificial at all. Instead, it was the moon – too large to be natural, but she did not care about that at all. Instead, she simply felt memories flooding her of a night not much unlike this one. Only, she had been alone except for one other person. And in that gentle breeze, illuminated by moonlight and a few twinkling stars, she had given what she’d believed to have been her best performance yet.

One, that she had not been able to replicate. Back then, things had not worked out with said person. But she had sworn to herself to one day sing like that again. Only a song of her own this time. It was her desire. And lost in the mist, she simply found herself taking a proper stance and start to sing herself. Of course, she had not made up a ballad of her own. In reality, she was singing one of the older, more classical songs her mother had taught her on a warm midsummer’s eve, for once without any connotations of using it to become famous. But in her mind, she was creating her own piece, ephemeral for as soon as a tune left her lips she forgot it. But she knew that it was good, so she enjoyed it, swaying to the sounds, completely ignorant of her surroundings.

One did not get into showbiz without at least a little bit of narcissism, she always figured. And while she was usually quite good about these things, she had to admit that being fawned over like this was actually quite nice. Plus, the one doing it was a cute girl and not some creep or anything, so she could enjoy it quite well.
Though she did her best to not abuse it too much. “I just have a little more experience than you, dear, that’s all.” Naturally, this whole thing about putting herself down a little bit would not work too well. But it was all about trying in the end.

“It actually isn’t all that terrifying once you do it. But it is still difficult. Which is what makes it special, isn’t it? I am sure that whoever you confess to will value it by virtue of how difficult it is alone.” A bit contradictory to her, though she figured that once more it was all down to experienced. The first time it had been difficult for her, too. But she was more or less used to it by now.
Though she had to raise a brow when the subject of a question came up. Was it confession time already? Luka certainly made a bit of a subconscious show of it. However….it probably wasn’t? She was about sixty percent sure that it was not. But she smiled one way or another. “Naturally. I will gladly battle you again. And then we can have a proper meal after or something like that~.”

“I used to think that too. But it turned out to be a lot easier than imagined.” Naturally, Eve left a pause after that. She could tell that the other, at this point, was just oscillating between hanging on her lips and drifting off into her own world. That ditziness truly was endearing in its own right.
Though she also was going to be truthful. There was a reason as to why she had not started her journey when most Pokemon trainers did. Multiple, really. But she had not just acquired a modicum of success and fame for herself first just to satisfy her mother, but also to sort things out first. To build some foundation that showed her that she could succeed. That, she had needed before jumping out into the world like this.

But not to let the poor girl wait forever here. “I was pondering that for a long time myself. But it turned out that once I stopped just seeing it as running off, things became a lot more workable. As long as you have strong conviction and desire, you can certainly begin a journey without regrets. It is the same as asking someone out, really. Often, it seems insurmountable at first and you focus on all the ways it can go wrong to the point where you think that it will. But if you just come out and ask sincerely, you tend to get a sincere answer. Maybe not always a positive one. But at least you will know what you are at regardless.”

Heh. Cute. Was that assessment a bit repetitive? Yes. Very much so. But it was also quite accurate. Watching the girl squirm and almost squeal at the thought of it, it was simply cute. And, ironically, her latching onto these aspects was what finally got Eve to think in such ways, too. This one was kind, gentle and still had an adorable kind of energy to herself. Plus, she was a fellow romantic at heart. That probably was the most important thing to her, really.

“It certainly would be possible if you ask me. Love did bloom on the battlefield in the days of yore, after all. And if you find someone that you trust so completely that you would leave it to them to cover your back, that seems a lot like someone that you could love, right?” Digging into that topic, she was now going into a bit more of a predatory in the process. Well, as much as she got, really. Not like she meant any ill by it. But she could roughly tell what the other was thinking about, and she capitalized on it.
Just was how she worked. Plus, this girl was looking more interesting by the minute, so it was only natural for her to dig in a little more. “Have you ever tried traveling with anyone for extended periods of time before, dear?”

“I do, I do,” she replied, thoughtfully. Incidentally, she had battled a whole lot of people over the past few days, but she had not exactly made as many proper connections with them. Most other trainers would just rush to the next match, as if there were prizes just for having a whole lot of battles, rather than winning a good amount of them.
Though, incidentally, she was still not sure how precisely this whole tournament worked in the end. Not having signed up for winning overall, she was not quite sure how this all was set up in detail.

“Either way, recorded battles are somewhat useful for sure, but they do not teach you all that much. After all, much of your battling comes from your own head, your heart, and those of your Pokemon. Others might give you some advice, but you will only figure out what works for you on your own and through experience. A lot like with romance, come to think of it.” She tapped her lips slightly thoughtfully again. She had come to this region looking for romance more than battle, but she had gotten quite a bit side-tracked. That rejection at the party certainly had gotten her a bit more hesitant to even approach the topic for the time being.
Hence, fortunately for Luka’s well-being, she was not exactly trying to come onto the other here. Anything that happened was just a natural by-product of Eve being Eve. “As for a companion, you just have to find someone who does not mind it and be very upfront about matters. I am certain that if you are earnest and true, you will find someone to help you if you just ask those who you feel would make a good fit.”

Luka certainly was a different kind of socialite to her, she decided. More of a butterfly, while she was the moth, more quiet, but still drawing others in at times. Even now, she mostly just smiled gently and joined her friend in the water, while the latter called for the newcomers. One of them seemed to be more of the quiet type as well, while the raven-haired one took care of introductions.

And since Luka did not do so for her, Evette, who by now had taken a seat of her own, went at it herself. “Evette Moreau,” she simply stated, allowing her Kalosian accent to come out thickly enough to be pretty much part of the introduction itself. Afterwards, she leaned back with a bit of a sigh. “It certainly has a good temperature indeed. Though for perfection, we could use a bit more steam, I would say.”
