"I suppose I didn't think of that. Replacing it might be best."[break][break]

And maintain a finish over the new wood to prevent the rain from seeping too deep beneath the surface. It's truly a shame it hadn't been done sooner - or at least kept up regularly. Gwen exhales quietly, chewing the inside of her cheek. This was definitely a big job, bigger than she'd anticipated. [break][break]

"I might be able to speak with Amor and my Father regarding the shrine's restoration. They might be able to assist us in some way."[break][break]

She blinks in surprise at the warm kiss pressed to her fingertips. It had caught her off-guard at first that he'd held fast to her rather than just take the gloves. And, once again, his unabashed affection is dizzying. In the face of his compliments and adorations, she is stunned into embarrassed silence.[break][break]

"Wh-- I-- of course I would, Greyson."[break][break]

Gwen glances away in a poor attempt to disguise the heat rising in her face. Being described as a 'beautiful woman' wasn't anything out of the ordinary- but it was different when Greyson said it. Like all of a sudden, it felt more real, or it had more meaning. Or that, in some way, this was the first time she was really understanding it and believing it.

"Oh.. okay."[break][break]

A bad joke? Had she missed something? Was she misreading the situation entirely? Warmth floods her face for a moment at the prospect. For a woman so attuned to reading intentions and expressions, with Greyson, she was lost.[break][break]

It takes her a moment to refocus, but she eventually pushes off of the counter to follow him as he releases the Gabite. At first, it seems that the little creature stares down each of them. In return, Hugo and Riley and maybe even Ellie all stare back for a long few moments. It almost feels tense- up until the Gible turns to chew on the furniture.[break][break]

Greyson sighs and Gwen's grey eyes rise to meet his. She says nothing at first, merely working to read him, to study him.[break][break]

"Hmm?"[break][break]

Only after he smiles at her, his expression apologetic, does she realize he'd been asking her a question. Gwen's eyebrows rise in surprise and she glances away.[break][break]

"That-- yes, that.. sounds better, probably. Baked potatoes.. probably better baked in the oven."[break][break]

She rubs the back of her neck awkwardly, nodding along with his decision to start the steaks later. Gwen blinks, studying him for a moment.[break][break]

"That sounds lovely."

His laughter brings her both joy and further embarrassment, but she lingers on the brush of his thumb against her cheek. But as quickly as he had stayed, he turns away to resume their work. It gives her just a moment to catch her breath, to defog her brain, and she nods numbly, a silly smile on her face as he talks.[break][break]

"Is there a way we might be able to.. to scrape off just the thin layer of the wood off?"[break][break]

Gwen watches him thoughtfully, quietly enamored by Greyson's easy-going attitude. It brings a smile to her face and she ultimately lets a bubble of laughter rise to the surface. She plucks one of her gloves off to hand to him.[break][break]

"We can share. I'd hate for you to get a splinter."[break][break]

She continues to smile even while she works, stealing glances whenever she thinks he isn't looking. In the background of their manual labour, the woman's Togepi and Ralts goof off together. Their quiet babblings only add, not subtract, to the good mood.

Where the vine whip cracks against the ground, Lopunny BOUNCES up and out of its way, crashing down on top of the Chesnaught's body to knock him out of position. It seemed to be enough to jostle the line and give their side just a second more. [break][break]

The ground shakes at Fleur's re-entry and the dust settles, she's prepared for whoever comes next to bust chops.[break][break]

"The more the merrier, he's not unfriendly, just shy."[break][break]

Gwen smiles, equally shy beneath his constant, ever vigilant gaze. It gives her a nervous, fluttery feeling in her chest that she can't shake, even when she glances away from him to return a moment later. Thankfully, his directions are a helpful distraction, and she roots through the drawer briefly to retrieve a fork. [break][break]

"I can make that work just fine."[break][break]

With a thoughtful hum, the young woman sets up the final touches, preparing the potatoes by poking dozens of holes in them and setting them onto the stove-top with practiced precision. Seasoned, prepared, and now hot, she turns back to face Greyson just as he bumps his hip against hers. [break][break]

"Oh, ahh-- sorry, am I in your way?"[break][break]

The playful bump is missed as an intention to be funny or cute. She merely steps aside and gives him full access to the sink. Instinctively, so as to be polite, Gwen keeps space between them.[break][break]

"Is there anything else I might be able to help with?"

"Yes! That's perfect, thank you!"[break][break]

He hands her the strainer and she takes it, fingers smoothing over the hundreds of holes in the bottom. She sets to work immediately, the quiet sound of water running off and on as she rinses each one carefully. [break][break]

On occasion, her hair falls forward into her face, prompting her to tuck and retuck it over and over. She is just above to peruse for a fork and tray desired to bake the potatoes when she catches Greyson staring after and chastising the Bolthund.[break][break]

"Oh-- that's alright, really. Hugo's a bit too nervous, so this is probably really good for him."[break][break]

Frankly, the Ralts' shy demeanor was a bit concerning. She had had him for a few years now with no suggestion of growth or preparation to evolve. She had high hopes he'd grow into a formidable and noble Gallade one day- but his personality was severely lacking at present.[break][break]

"Ah.. which drawer is your cutlery? And.. how are you planning to set these? Barbeque, or oven, or?"[break][break]

She remains every polite and a little bit awkward, evidently out of place in an unfamiliar kitchen.

"What a shame..[break][break]

Gwen exhales quietly, taking in the state of the shrine once again. For the most part it just seems to be simple upkeep. Brushing away the debris and dust, pulling back the creeping plants, washing off the paint. [break][break]

She knew, though, that their efforts would take them the better part of the day. It might even end up being a two-day job, leading to a weekly revisit. If there was no one else to look after the area, Gwen knew she would take that responsibility.[break][break]

Warmth spreads where Greyson's attention draws to her. She's never quite felt the awkward giddiness that she does whenever he watches her, but she's found herself waiting for it more and more often. Even still, she is surprised by his forwardness when the young man leans in to kiss her.[break][break]

The motion is fleeting but enough to leave her dazed.[break][break]

So their dinner date hadn't been just a dream or a hopeful, exaggerated reiteration of events. They had kissed, and he had done it again. Gwen's blush is furious across the bridge of her nose, and she opens her mouth to speak up in response and finds words difficult to find.[break][break]

"Uhh, yeah-- I'll, um.. I'll.. yeah."[break][break]

The woman steps aside, dipping her head and brushing her sweaty palms on her pants. She reaches for the pair of gloves sticking out of her back pocket and slips them on, setting to work at pulling back the vines and whatnot that had grown all over the shrine.

It genuinely surprised her that there was a shrine dedicated to the legendary duo from Galar all the way out here. But perhaps she shouldn't be, given the world's diversity in beliefs and worship of different legendary Pokemon.[break][break]

And upon finding it, the shrine quite literally takes her breath away. It appears old and worn down, showing signs of neglect and possible abuse. In fact, on the back end of the statues, she can see that someone has spray-painted it. The sight makes her frown.[break][break]

"Yes, they are the two known as the 'heroes of legend'."[break][break]

She is thoughtful, coming to a pause before glancing up at Greyson. [break][break]

"Thank you for inviting me, Greyson."

A wet tongue and a sizzling sensation, or tingling, or whatever it was that supercharged the surface of his skin makes Hugo twinge in surprise. Or.. maybe he's genuinely paralyzed now.[break][break]

Gwen waits patiently in the kitchen, drifting to a spot near the countertop so as to not hover in the middle of nowhere. Her fingers smooth over the surface idly, while her eyes wander to take in the room. She settles on nothing in particular, neither focusing on beauty nor blemishes. Eventually, her attention resettles on Greyson when she hears the familiar ping of ice cubes being dropped into a glass container.[break][break]

"Potatoes? Sure, okay."[break][break]

She hesitates for a moment before catching sight of the bag relaxing against a wall in the pantry. Gwen glances back at him briefly, almost as if she's asking permission to help herself, but ultimately moves toward the pantry anyway. [break][break]

And then, while Greyson finishes preparing her water to set it on the counter where she once stood, Gwen returns to lift the bag onto the counter.[break][break]

"Do you have a basin to wash these in?"[break][break]

And of course, she brushes past him to wash her hands and reach for her water, taking a small sip.

Hugo stands stiffly, petrified as a cold nose nudges up against him to inhale deeply. Gwen breathes out a quiet chuckle before leaving them to it, as in the process, the Ralts had let go of her leg.[break][break]

Greyson's greeting to the little Pokemon goes unanswered while the child remains frozen and wholly absorbed in Riley's greeting. He'd let out a soft, relieved sigh and melt into a trembling puddle the moment the Bolthund let up.[break][break]

Meanwhile, the woman waits expectantly for Greyson's answer regarding her joining him in making dinner. She realizes only after she's asked that perhaps she was too forward. But she had never had idle hands, and more often than not she had been Amor's personal chef. To have the roles reversed was uncomfortable to some degree.[break][break]

"Water is just fine. Iced, maybe, actually."[break][break]

She smiles, following him to the kitchen. His excitement goes virtually unnoticed, as she continues to idly glance back at Hugo to keep a slight eye on him.[break][break]

"Did you want me to pull anything out?"

In the brief second that she overreacts, lurching forward to intercept what she at first determines to be danger, is abruptly shut down with the movement of his hand. He tugs it out of hers, slipping away from her and effectively acting as an unintentional barrier while he pushes the Bolthund back out of the doorway.[break][break]

He turns back to smile at her and the expression is so nervous and excited that she blinks, effectively snapping herself out of habit and relaxing into something awkward and equally nervous.[break][break]

"She's excited."[break][break]

Gwen words it like a statement, perhaps a little bit too stiffly as a result of her previous knee-jerk reaction to protect. She clears her throat, glancing away and into his home, lingering briefly on the Comfey that stares back at her. Greyson eventually closes the door behind her and she remains in the entranceway for a moment longer, taking the time to remove her shoes and hang up her jacket.[break][break]

"Oh-- perhaps Hugo might like to visit, actually."[break][break]

The woman glances back at the excitable Bolthund, but ultimately chooses to release her shy little Ralts. The little man holds onto her ankle, clinging to her with his mouth in a nervous 'o'.[break][break]

"Actually.. do you mind if I assist you? I really don't mind."[break][break]

Gwen smiles slightly, following Greyson further into the house as opposed to exploring for a place to sit and wait.

It hardly feels like she's even breaking a sweat, if she's being honest. But humility is trained into her, and despite her less than humble statement, she meant well. In fact, she makes an attempt now to lessen Greyson's effort and increase her own; take a bigger brunt of the work for his sake.[break][break]

Lopunny, on the other hand, is happy to jump into the fray all over again. She ducks beneath the hammer arm to take the full brunt of the damage, but it doesn't hit her: it hits the mirror coat just above her. It causes an explosion that recoils, smashing back with double the force of the attack she'd just blocked.[break][break]

Take that, red team.[break][break]

Was she even remotely helpful? For the better part of the afternoon she felt as though she definitely could have just sat back and sipped a nice cold drink, let the sweaty men do all of the hard work and obtain the rope burns. [break][break]

But there it was, a window of opportunity. [break][break]

A Pokmon breaks formation to attempt to intercept someone on her side of the rope, and she feels her Lopunny's anticipation shift. Or maybe the Pokemon just let go of the rope. Probably that.[break][break]

"Don't hesitate on my account, Fleur, get in there!"[break][break]

With a heave, she uses the opportunity to pull hard. Lopunny uses agility to body slam her way into the free of rock smashes and ice fangs.[break][break]
