Her duty for this evening was to patrol the cemetery. Too many reports had been made for disturbed headstones and dug up graves. Frankly, the chances of these reports being related to nefarious activity were quite slim, given how many of these apparent mishaps were caused by Pokemon's claws-- but she obliged regardless. It was a simple ask and one she was more than capable of handling.

What she wasn't expecting was for her to bump into another officer, one who seemed quite keen on finding something. Or that is, at least, what it looked like to her. Just as she is about to approach, the device in his hand or in his back pocket begins to go off. Immediately, she assumes that it must be some sort of an alarm alerting him to her presence.

His surprise mimics her own, and her eyes widen as she blurts out an apology.

"Oh! My apologies, sir, I didn't realize there would be someone here to clean the headstones."

Her attention shifts to the bucket with the floating rag. The beeping doesn't stop, however, and she awkwardly stands in his path with curiosity glinting in her eyes. The obscure noise draws her attention, and she inclines her head toward it, regardless of if it might look like she is staring at his butt or something.

"I am Officer Guinevere Auclair-- is there anything I can help you with today, sir?"

Gwen smiles, pauses once more as she climbs out of bed to press one last kiss to his cheek, before moving off into the kitchen.

Once there, she takes her time cleaning up, taking special care to clean every inch of the countertops. The food is packed away into containers, some of them labelled 'Greyson'. The suction of the fridge signals she is finished, and she exhales softly before peering back down the hallway into her bedroom.

There, behind the slightly open door, she watches Greyson sleep for a moment.

"You said that it would be fun."

And maybe something about.. strengthening their bond. She doesn't bring that up, however, for fear it might make the mood more awkward. What he thinks has become incredibly important to her, evidently, and that includes his general emotions as well.

Gwen slows as Greyson's Leafeon returns with a fainted Klink, and it appears after second glance that her own Lopunny has run off as well. Further ahead she can now see that the bunny has taken on a quick spar with a Mienfoo. Given her larger size and her experience, she out-maneuvers the smaller fighting-type Pokemon with ease.

"Well done, Fleur! You are quite the battler!"

She moves to catch it before glancing over her shoulder to Greyson. She inclines her head, confused.

"My manners?"

"Yes! It is just something short and sweet, but meaningful."

Gwen continues to smile, leaning over the fire now to heat up their meals. Oil and water sizzle in the pan and flames wink up and over the lip. They almost look like will-o-wisps.

"No, no, it is not. I used to camp quite frequently with my father."

With a scrape of the pan, she shifts the food off and over to separate plates. Somehow, she manages to make even a rough, unappetizing meal look pretty. She passes over a fork and knife as well, still smiling.

"I like camping."

Guinevere Auclair has never been one to contemplate the universe and all of its mysteries, but recent, troubling, frightening events concerning strange Pokemon and stranger circumstances, the thought of being caught up in some sort of multiverse is not too far from the forefront of her mind.

But the thought is fleeting, as it always is, because there is work to be done. And just as she catches herself staring at her reflection in the water for too long, she quickly reorients herself and steps closer to her post.

She smiles politely at his ceaseless chatting, nodding along to any questions he might have. In fact, at some point along the way, she reminds him how to properly use his own camera.

The quiet and the calm end abruptly, however, when a twig snaps nearly. It is out of place and catches Gwen's attention immediately. Naturally, the reporter continues snapping photos and talking- but the officer's attention is no longer on his meaningless conversation.

She begins walking in the direction of the snapping sound, fingers brushing against her belt in search of a pokeball. Lopunny shifts closer, too, to the reporter, picking up on Gwen's intensity.

After an exchange of information and a firm handshake, Gwen sets herself up to guard the young man and his professional photo camera. What with the recent goings-on of Hoenn's less than friendly climate and atmosphere, a news reporter had insisted on assigning an officer from Slateport city to follow and protect one of their prized reporters.

Which was fine and simple, given Gwen's capable hands and the lovely weather for the afternoon.

She, alongside her Lopunny, keep a close eye on the reporter while maintaining a healthy, respectable distance. The click-click of the man's camera shooting photos is relaxing, and so far she's only had to push back the occasional surprise wild Pokemon attempting to photobomb. But evidently, that had been because of the snacks he hid in his pocket for the trip.

But, given this was meant to be an overnight assignment, dangers might come out at night with the hovering full moon and stiff breeze rolling in.

Gwen closes her eyes, humming a quiet note of affection as his thumb brushes against her cheek. She leans closer, pressing cold nose to the warmth of his face.

"It's late."

She whispers, kissing quietly at the hollow of his ear. She begins to pull away slowly, careful to not wake him further.

"I will be right back. I am going to put the food away so it doesn't spoil."

"Mhm."

Gwen holds out her hand for Ana to take. Whether or not the woman truly believes in what they are going is not important, what is is the fact she is willing to do it at all.

"That is quite alright, you can just listen while I speak."

And then, when the wind blows past them and stirs up the cinders, she gently squeezes Ana's hand and begins to murmur the quiet, thankful prayer. It is over quickly and she slips her hand out of Ana's to breathe out a quiet, satisfied sigh.

"Well, shall we eat then? I packed us both some meals for the day. They should still be warm, but we can easily warm them over the fire if necessary."

She kneels next to the fire, using a stick to push in the small pile of leaves she's using as kindling. It catches fire immediately, making the campfire blaze come to life even further.

When she pulls herself back to sit next to her partner, she is mesmerized by both the smoke and the vapor from her warm breath.

"You did wonderful as well, miss Stone!"

Gwen returns the smile before pausing to think.

"We could send a short prayer for the night to continue to be as quiet and calm as it is now. Give thanks for the beautiful day we've had and the hard work we put in."

Gwen exhales, and although she really isn't shaken at all, she pretends to be for Greyson's sake. It's why she leans deeper into his touch and allows his kiss to bring her back to a sense of peace. She would never have let anything happen to him, and she would never be afraid.

She couldn't afford to be.

Two travel bars are pulled back out and one is pressed to his hand. She follows his gaze, however, and spies two incredibly large Pokemon sparring one another down their path. Fortunately, there is more than enough room for them to give them the wide berth Greyson suggests.

With a booming crash, the Mudsdale suffers blunt force trauma from running recklessly into his steel giant.

"I will agree with you on that."

She takes his hand and pulls him along carefully and quietly, so as to not draw the attention of the wild Pokemon.

For all of her years spent hunting for the girl right in front of her, no recognition sparks a reaction. She merely smiles at her, shifts her cart to the side to let her pass, and continues about her day.

Or she would, had she not been sure she'd witnessed some semblance of panic in the girl and her Pokemon's eyes. The way they'd look at each other before looking at her, and the way the girl's voice seemed stolen from her.

"Miss.. is everything alright?"

Gwen glances around briefly on the off chance perhaps there is someone else with her that could be causing unseen stress. But it is just them in the aisle currently, so she returns her gaze once again.

Gwen doesn't flinch. Not even in the face of an angry, scared teenager. Because she knows and understands the fear coming off of the girl in waves. She knows how hard it can be to feel calm, how important it is to feel in control.

So she allows her to be angry and to bite back.

"I know you can, Ann."

However, watching the girl walk away aggravates her own unease and agitates the encroaching Mightyena. She can hear them bark and snarl louder, egged on by movement and by the fear they can smell.

Fortunately, Ann is a brave girl.

She commands her Zorua to act and it does as any loyal, competent Pokemon would. It draws the attention of one of the three Poochyena, taking it out of the equation. Which left two more pups and mother dearest. Lopunny steps forward, and when the puppies approach, effectively knocks both of them out with a swift DOUBLE KICK.

The Mightyena howls.
