Mason watched in awe as the Dragonite punched one of the Beheeyems into the ground. When the boy saw the older man standing up, he followed suit, ”We’ll do our best,” he replied. He saw the Dragonite separating the Beheeyems into groups of two. ”Let’s draw their attention, Vesty use Bug Buzz!”. The Larvesta called up loudly and released red waves from its body. The red waves travelled through the air and reached where the two separated Beheeyems were. It definitely caught their attention as the waves seemed to hurt their heads a lot. 

     Soon enough, the two Beheeyems closed in towards where Mason and his Pokemon were. This was perfectly how Mason wanted it, ”Twiggy use Crunch! Vesty, cover him with Bug Buzz!” The Turtwig leapt towards one of the approaching Beheeyems and used its powerful jaw to bit it and brought it to the ground. The second Beheeyem raised one of its hands to conjure an attack towards the Turtwig, but was disturbed by the red waves produced by Vesty, disrupting its thoughts. 

     The Beheeyem the Turtwig was wrestling against used Zen Headbutt, knocking the Turtwig off from its body. It then used Psychic on the Larvesta and released its ally from the suffering. Mason gritted his teeth, ”Twiggy, conjure a Leaf Storm and trap them in! Vesty-”, the Turtwig did as ordered, it shot several leaves from the seedling on top of its head and the leaves circled the Beheeyem. Mason was going to tell his Larvesta to use Bug Buzz, again. But before he could, the Pokemon tugged his pants. Mason turned to see the Larvesta and saw its eyes, he knew what the Larvesta wanted to do.

     ”A-Are you sure you want to use that?”. The Larvesta nodded. Mason sighed, ”Alright Vesty, Flare Blitz!”. About a couple days ago, while fighting a wild pokemon, Mason told his Larvesta to use its signature Flame Charge. But then, Vesty surprised him by using a move similar to Flame Charge but its intensity was just so much more. The Larvesta’s five horns lit in flames. Soon, the flames cloaked its body and burned bright in the night. The Larvesta wasted no time and charged at the Beheeyem’s, leaving a trail of burned grass with it. The flames interacted with Twiggy’s remaining Leaf Storm and incinerated the Beheeyems.

     Larvesta cheerfully danced beside the roasted Beheeyems. Mason watched and scratched his head a bit, they kinda over did it. He began to notice how much his Larvesta really liked fighting and burning other Pokemon. The Larvesta was also the one who suggested to use that very dangerous move. Which was a bit worrying. He then heard Amor’s voice, ”Y-Yeah! Everything alright here!” he said nervously, not sure if this was how he should’ve handled the situation.

Amor Rose

    Mason did not know what he got himself into. But there he was pulling a rope with a bunch of other people. It wasn’t his ideal type of activity but oh well spending some time with his Larvesta, Vesty, won’t hurt that much. 

     He then saw a Rhyperior ahead on the other team pulling with extra force. Despite wanting to go back home and have a nice shower, Mason did not want to give up. He wanted to put his all and try to win this thing. 

     ”Good job Vesty! Now let’s put more energy into it!”, out of passion, the Larvesta FLAME CHARGEd, cloaking itself in fire and pulled with much more force.

    When the boy saw the purple-haired lady walking over, he thought that he would get a congratulations, a clap of approval and appreciation, something along that line. But oh boi. He did not expect to get a smack right across the face. It truly shocked him. 

     He rubbed one of his sore cheeks to lessen the pain, and sat up when the woman was off him. With a prominent frown and sad droopy eyes, he asked, ”What did you do that for? Nobody got injured, nobody got flung into the air...”.

    Mason chuckled a little when the Ghastly zipped away, he found the Ghastly’s behaviour very interesting. ”Alright, Larvesta, go to the other side, Twiggy stay right there,” he said as he moved towards the front of the Seviper, with some distance between it and him. The case was the same for Larvesta and Twiggy, but they were on different sides of the Seviper. The snake Pokemon noticed them and bared its fangs at them, hissing. 

     Mason picked up some rocks from the ground, ”Vesty, String Shot! Follow up with Ember and Twiggy use Razor Leaf!” he said and his Pokemon did as told. While Mason, threw rocks at the Seviper. An attack from three different directions. The Seviper had to choose any one of them to attack and Mason already had in mind what to do for each scenario as he already had it played in his mind. Hopefully, it will work. 

     The Seviper became a bit agitated and was deciding who to attack. The Seviper plunged at Mason. The boy knew that he is the likeliest target be attacked since he seemed like the most vulnerable. But, this was actually to Mason’s advantage as he was ready to dodge anytime whereas his Pokemon had to be told so first. Mason held his breath and jumped aside, missing the Seviper’s fang by a width of hair, ended up rolling to the ground. Without missing a bit he shouted, ”Flame Charge! Crunch!”. 

     The Larvesta’s body were immediately cloaked in flames as it charged towards the exposed Seviper. While the Turtwig jumped at the Seviper, and bit with the full strength of its jaw on the Seviper’s body. The snake Pokemon wailed and screeched, before finally plummeting to the ground and fainted.

     Mason, still lying on the dirt with his mouth dropped, could not believe what had happened.

    Mason literally did not know what to do. His Turtwig ate the damage Water Pulse. He kinda felt like giving up already, but knew better and the best way to lose is to lose with dignity. ”Alright buddy, let’s try this again, use tackle!”. 

     Mason guessed that it would be easier to use a move that only requires you to plummet yourself towards the Pokemon. But he guessed wrong, the Turtwig did charged at the Slowking, but missed by a long shot. Mason was quite embarrassed and began to unconsciously pull his hair down to try covering his face.

    Amor’s words were in his mind, kinda. He thought about it for awhile. A path he wanted to follow. Never had he considered such questions before. He had always lived life following the flow, just being kinda okay wherever it takes him. But, as Amor said, he had a lot of time to think about it. At the moment he must stay alert of the alien-like Pokemon. 

     When Amor laid low, Mason became more aware of the surroundings. When he was asked to get his Pokemon ready, he turned around, to see the two little creatures entranced by a small ladybug they found somewhere on the grass. Mason said to them, as quietly as possible, ”Hey you two, get ready and stay alert,”, and they did as told, slowly walked towards Mason’s side. 

     Mason watched the older man searched the sky, and he followed suit. If it were not of their current situation, Mason would’ve found the sky most lovely. With all its stars decorating the black blanket of the night. But then he saw something peculiar, something that didn’t look like the rest of the stars. It was flashing. There was no mistaking it. He quickly pointed it out with a finger, ”There,”.

Amor Rose

    Mason had always been a great listener, and listened to what the woman in front of her was saying. He thought about it for a while, and then turned to look at the Ghastly. His lips curved to form a smile. ”I have an idea.”. Then without skipping a beat, he looked at his Turtwig, ”Twiggy let’s go.”. The Pokemon let out a joyful and passionate cry before it followed its trainer who was rushing towards the battle scene. 

     When they arrived, the Larvesta was already there. ”Thank you Ghastly, would you let us take it from here?” he’d ask out of politeness.

    Mason sulked a bit as he was ‘lectured’. His arms hugged his knees and his Turtwig was trapped between his legs and body. ’I was just trying to help..’ he thought. Despite those thoughts he listened to what the woman was saying. That snakes are this and that. When she asked him the question though, he pondered a bit. ’I could easily overpower the Seviper if I used Lily...’ though the sudden thought of the Milotic brought back some depressing thoughts so he quickly pushed the idea aside. ’No, Vesty and Twiggy can do this.’.

     He stood up, still hugging his Turtwig. ”Twiggy, use Synthesis.”. The Turtwig looked up to the sun and its body began to glow with a hint of green. The bruise he got was healed. Mason put the Pokemon back on the ground. He then looked at the purple-haired woman, eyes suddenly filled with determination. ”Well I’d like to try.”.

Evette Moreau

    Mason didn’t even know such move existed! Restricting a Pokemon from using a move. He had a lot to learn before he could even challenge one of the gym leaders. He had already wasted a move when he tried to order Twiggy to use Crunch, so the Slowking had the opening to attack. The move hit and it sent the Turtwig hurling to the ground. ”Twiggy!” Mason shouted. A trainer worried about his Pokemon. 

     The Turtwig stood after taking the full on blast of the Water Pulse. Relief washed over Mason’s face when he realise that his Pokemon was still standing. But then he realised... that his Turtwig was walking a little bit funny. Realising that he was still in a battle, he took the chance to immediately counterattack. ”Twiggy use Razor Leaf!”. The turtle Pokemon swayed its head around a bit longer than usual. ”Err... Twiggy?”, the Turtwig then finally released a set of blade like leaves but it boomeranged back, hurting itself. 

     Mason was more than shocked he had never had his Pokemon get confused before, ”Oh no...” he muttered as he dropped and crouched on the ground. Both of his hands dug deep inside his hair while he shook his head slowly, ”Not like this...”.

    It was definitely the lighting. The light from the sun was shining at his eyes, only allowing him to see the silhouette of the figure that had approached him. When the figure had came closer and began to speak did Mason realise that the person was just an ordinary trainer like him. Perhaps it was also the adrenaline rush from saving his Turtwig that caused him to see things in a weird way.

     His mind was blank for a few seconds, trying to process the words said by the person. ”Uhh... catch? I’m not trying to catch any- Oh!” he suddenly remembered why he was in that situation in the first place, ”Well, I saw that an old man was in trouble with the Seviper, so I tried to help him. But it seems like I’m not strong enough to beat it.” he explained, sighing at the end of his sentence.

    It really shocked Mason when the Slowking stayed calm and collected even though its tail was bleeding. He noticed that the Slowking’s eyes was shining and wondered what kind of trick was pulled by it. ”Twiggy go and use Crunch again!” Mason exclaimed. 

     But when the Turtwig was about to open its jaw, it closes again, again and again no matter how many times the Turtwig tried. ‘Oh no. So this is what the sparkling eyes does.’ Mason said to himself.

    Mason turned his head to look at the older man, his attention undivided. He was a bit surprised to hear Amor giving him some tips on becoming a trainer. ‘Is he really helping me out?’, he thought. Which is what was happening and what was good for him as well. Amor looked even cooler now in his eyes. Doing something is better than doing nothing. That line rang clear in his mind, and would be so too throughout his journey. For a second, he thought, ‘I am very lucky to came across Amor,’. 

     At first, the boy didn’t believe that he was actually listening to Amor’s childhood days. But as the story progressed, Mason couldn’t help but to feel a little bit sad. ‘Starting from the age of six...’ he thought. ‘Isn’t that a little bit cruel?’ he ruminated for awhile. ‘I couldn’t even focus on one task when I was six, I used to play around... Like what kids are supposed to do...’ Mason began to empathise with Amor without noticing it. He could only look at the other man’s eyes and ask himself what the man was hiding beneath all that masks.

     Mason set his gaze onto the setting sun, the sky changing colours of beautiful hues of orange and purple. He didn’t find anything humorous when he heard the man chuckling. To Mason the man’s chuckles were a little bit melancholic, or perhaps that was only due to his own previous thoughts. ”Twenty years... I haven’t even been alive for twenty years.” he stated while he played with the grass near his shoes, his chin rested on his knees.

Amor Rose

     ”Vesty String Shot!”. Mason was running, his eyes on his Turtwig instead of the direction he was running towards. His Pokemon meant so much more than anything else. The Larvesta did as instructed and shot strings of silk at the falling Turtwig, wrapping in a cocoon. As the cocoon-cased Turtwig approached the ground, Mason leapt, with his arms stretched out. He managed to captured his Pokemon before it had managed to hit the ground. By instinct, Mason kept the cocoon close to his chest and folded his legs, ending up rolling across the ground. 

     Mason felt a little bit dizzy for awhile from all that rolling. When he managed to stop his head from spinning, he tore the silky threads away, revealing a happy looking Turtwig inside. Mason chuckled while tearing up a little. He proceeded to hug his Pokemon, the thought of losing his Twiggy scared him to death. 

     When he looked back, he saw a purplish orb, a Ghastly, handling the Seviper. Mason was a little bit confused, but then he saw someone descending from the sky like a saviour. His face awestruck by the heroic scenery.
