He asks for specifics and for a moment, Luka blanks. An embarrassed flush rises in her cheeks but she quickly waves it away with a further fluttering of ribbons.[break][break]

"So, like! I mean it's durable, a-and helps a lot in weird environments like this. It has, like...when you link up with other people that use one, it kinda helps out in battle. Umm...and for me at least, it really helps me focus and calm down in tough situations. But I think that's more Sugar's doing than anything else."[break][break]

The Sylveon at her side purrs in agreement and rubs against her leg. Luka gives her partner a few loving head scratches while Ollie poses, and once his little display is over she claps her hands in delight.[break][break]

"Ehe, I know!" Her Kalosian accent isn't always the most noticable; Luka tends to copy the dialects of anywhere she visits, like a mockingbird. But her natural cadence seems more pronounced now. "A friend back home helped me with the design of this, actually. So like...we're kind of matching!"[break][break]

Nothing Remiel says is very reassuring. Perhaps her talk with ollie morales earlier had helped open her eyes some; she feels entirely disillusioned with the prince she'd once been so besotted with.[break][break]

"...I wish I could believe that," she replies with a sigh of her own, so softly that she's not sure it'll even pick up over their comms.[break][break]

But before their conversation can further devolve a crackling voice interrupts them. The words, distorted by static and something loud in the background, are almost completely lost to her. But the urgency and fear behind them comes through perfectly.[break][break]

"No," Luka answers, a shiver crawling up the length of her spine, "It wasn't."

Ramune, like many of the other performers, is more than thrilled to be up on stage. In her opinion, she is being woefully underutilized in her trainer's contests, and deserves this chance to shine![break][break]

As soon as the act is set, the bubbly Brionne tries to force herself onto center stage. She fluffs her frilly tail and sashays in front of the rest, a true primadonna in the making. But thankfully, she has the vocal chops to back up all of her swagger.[break][break]

Her voice joins the choir, a delicate sing that starts off soft and pretty but quickly creschendos into a powerful soprano. Each note floats over the cafe's patrons like a bubble, bright and mystically delicate. Although as the show goes on, her voice gets noticably louder. It's clear that— like it or not— she's trying to make herself the star of the show![break][break]

Remiel underestimates how truly dense Luka is. She doesn't get the implicaton behind his words at all. And instead of clarifying, he just retierates what he'd already said. Except to her, it still doesn't mean anything. [break][break]

In fact, it's sad to think about. Remiel knows her better than most; she'd opened up to him about her past, let him see the flaws she always kept locked behind a saccharine exterior. But what he had said at the masquerade was true: she never knew him at all.[break][break]

Right now, he might as well be a stranger.[break][break]

"I-" He's right. She has no good reason to stay connected. "Because, I...I-I thought I could finally get some actual answers out of you! But you're just being all vague and weird instead. I have no idea what you're trying to say!"

He's not wrong. Remiel had broken her, shattered her heart like glass and left her to sweep up the remains. She's used to it— heartbreak was a familiar ache and she'd been down that road many times before. Her patchwork heart has been stitched together so often that maybe she's more thread than a girl, held together by a string. But this itme she hadn't been able to put it back the same way.[break][break]

Somehow, she'd managed to convince herself that he was the only one able to put her together again.[break][break]

For there is a place in her where his fingerprints still rest, his kisses linger, and whispers softly echo. It’s the place where a part of him will forever be a part of her.[break][break]

But whatever warmth she still carries for him freezes over in the wake of his confession. The words don't register at first— Luka blinks up at him, stupefied. An uncomfortable silence settles between them.[break][break]

He's lying. He must be. It's just like before— he's trying to hurt her, to find the words that'll cut the deepest to get her to leave him alone. She won't fall for it again.[break][break]

Every word that flows from her lips hurts to say. It's still hard to believe that the man who had once laid beside her, crooning sweet nothings into her ear, could ever be capable of the despicable acts associated with Rocket. She knows he must have hurt people— has he killed anyone? The thought makes her sick.[break][break]

She knows there's no real reason for Rocket to target her— bar Lulu Flint, but that's different. She's a nobody, hardly threatening. She looks like she'd make a squeaky toy noise if you hit her. Though as she continues to walk, her exaggerated concerns start to become a legitimate fear. This place is unnatural and unnerving, and twists the senses in a way that inspires paranoia.[break][break]

Luka snorts, but with how shoddy the reception is here it probably just sounds like a burst of crackling static.[break][break]

"That's, like...not very convincing at all, you know." She has half a mind to try switching to another channel and trying her luck again. But she stays on the line anyways because he's the first person she's been able to contact in nearly twenty minutes and in a place like this, being in the company of the man who'd completely shattered her is still better than nothing.[break][break]

"And I don't need your help," she asserts stubbornly, even though she is very much lost on her own. "You'll just send your Rocket goons after me, or whatever it is you do."

Luka sucks in a breath when a shape appears on the other side of the mist.[break][break]

Spiky, irregular, and dark, she mistakes Andrea Vaneau's sygna suit for Darkrai at first. She almost laughs aloud when she realizes her mistake, but sobers quickly. Is this new person a friend or a foe? Should she be more worried than before?[break][break]

But the way Lulu calls out to her, voice dripping with disdain, tells Luka everything she needs to know. And it seems the enigmatic Rocket has focused on a new target.[break][break]

She could use this opportunity to escape. Use the dream mist as a cover and maintain as much distance between herself and Lulu as possible. Darkrai's avatar is not one to be trifled with, and she knows that she's really no match for the woman.[break][break]

Maybe it's stupid or maybe it's noble. But either way, and despite the danger, Luka can't bring herself to abandon this stranger.[break][break]

Her Clefable enters the field with a flick of her love ball, the movement sending pink mist swirling around the pair. As soon as she lands a request is given, and a protect is hastily thrown up between Andrea and the oncoming attack.[break][break]

Whether they've reacted quickly enough to actually help remains to be seen. For now, Luka can only hope.[break][break]

He's right— Luka is skeptical. She hates feeling like she can't trust someone but Remiel has lied to her enough that she can't just take him at face value anymore. Especially now, when danger lurks around every corner and anything could be a trap.[break][break]

There's another hiss of static as her comms crackles back to life. "Why should I believe you?" she asks, trying to keep her voice as emotionless as possible. There's a turmoil of feelings brewing inside her, but until she can be certain one way or another, she tries to shove them down.

The immediate relief Luka feels is quickly replaced by a sinking in her stomach.[break][break]

Although slightly muddied and garbled at first, the voice that filters through her earpiece is very distinctly Galarian. She’d like to think it’s unfamiliar, but the familiar posh tone becomes clearer and clearer with every word in a way she can’t ignore. [break][break]

"Oh, pardon me," she says, her voice suddenly flat and cold, "I didn’t realize I had tapped into Team Rocket’s channel."

Unfortunately, their pleasant chatter has to be cut short. Luka would love to talk more about contests and her bag or whatever, and to inquire about Milo's tattoos, but that'll have to wait.[break][break]

"What?" she whispers, turning to her partner with wide eyes, "No! I'm not just going to abandon you! Don't be silly."[break][break]

She creeps forwards, but still doesn't see anything in the eerily lit gloom of the cave. This is hopefully a good thing: whatever is there might not have noticed them either. "Give us some cover please, Ume," she says as softly as she can, and her Musharna obliges. Billowing clouds of dream mist rise to envelop her and Milo, resembling the pinky-purple air of the Interdream Zone.[break][break]

Perhaps it'll be enough to fool whatever's going around the bend— few seem to want to enter the dream zone voluntarily. But that's all just a gamble, and entierely depenedent on what lies in wait around the bend.[break][break]

She's not really one to brag, and the ultra deep sea isn't a good place for an impromptu fashion show. But Luka can't help giving a little twirl anyways, the skirt of her Sylveon inspired sygna suit swirling around her thighs. In the low gravity of the sea, the ribbons on her suit and her bubblegum hair float gracefully around her, just like a little fairy.[break][break]

"Isn't it so cute?" she gushes, "And I mean, like, it's practical too, I promise!"[break][break]

A moment of frivolity doesn't suit this tense place, but maybe it's what both of them need. Luka laughs softly, and the sound echoes strangely around them in the mist. "Of course, your outfit is lovely too!"[break][break]
