Ceri absolutely lives in this dank submarine too, and she absolutely has wandered through its cold corridors in the middle of the night without a single light on. It has never bothered her in the slightest, but will that stop her from using it all as a cheap excuse to stay close to him? Of course not.

Boys can be adorably dumb sometimes, and in this case, at least it’ll make patrolling a little more fun… Especially as she steps closer to him indeed, so very casually allowing her arm to touch his.

The singing… the voices… the sounds… whatever they are, they reverberate all around them. They ring loud, they ring low, they are whispers and also high-pitched tones. It makes her head spin. It makes her feel nauseous. It makes no sense at all.

No matter how badly she wants to stop and take a breath, what little common sense she has left in her tells Ceri to keep going. ”Same… we need to get out of here.” As if that weren’t already obvious.

As if it were no more than some sorry ground type or something, the Rillaboom stumbles back when the huge wave of the Snorlax’s SURF splashes against it; struggling to stay on its feet and holding onto the edge of the ring.

It would probably be something that would concern most trainers, given that defeat is imminent, but all Ceri does is tilt her head slightly while looking directly at Matias.

”Is it?”

What part of it is supposed to be fun? Ceri really doesn’t get it at all, but she does no more than shrug, turning towards her Rillaboom.

”Du-ir~ I thought you wanted to fight?”

There’s a growl on the pokémon’s part, and perhaps somewhat reinvigorated by its trainer’s words, it uses what strength it has left in an attempt to SLAM the Snorlax.

”That sounds like a huge change, I imagine you must really miss the lab… sir.” Caught up in the excitement of talking about both science and Galar, it had been easy to dismiss the rank difference between them, so the correction is swiftly made the moment she realizes her mistake. After all, colleagues or not, she’s still only a grunt, a student, a lab assistant, and there’s still much left to learn no matter how much she may already know...

In theory, it should work, but with so many unknown variables perhaps it’s also a matter of the stars aligning and having faith and what not. The question is asked calmly, focused on her work as she is, but in her eyes shimmers her own anticipation and thrill – as if she can’t wait to see what happens to this poor Slowking.

Somewhere in this multiverse there’s probably a movie about a Snorlax that learns Kung Fu and really loves noodles (coincidence? I think not), and in that movie the villain’s punches would probably bounce off the pokémon’s stomach just like those of the Rillaboom do.

And so she calls out her Crobat after reaching for a pokéball in her bag, the pokémon’s INNER FOCUS somewhat protecting it from the strange things happening around them. ”Aer, try to find a way out from above, okay? Don’t stray too far, though.”

The Crobat flies up, and with a nod, Ceri steps forward, following after Kano.

”I think it reacted with something here. That something brought it to existence.” Her words come with a small shrug, and a hand is tentatively extended to pet the grass type that happily feasts on the leaves.

A soft chuckle escapes her when the Houndoom stands thanks to the scent of coffee, and she turns to look at the pokémon.

What the Houndoom gets instead of coffee is pats, because despite her cheerful words, Ceri is all too aware of just how much coffee it takes to cause serious toxicity to a pokémon like that. It’s almost by habit that the thought crosses her mind, and yet she still smiles all the same when she looks at Elliott once again. Sheepishly, this time.

”Fossils?” Her interest is piqued, because just like many, when Ceri was a kid she had a few years when she was completely obsessed with all things prehistoric. Although, did she ever really outgrow it? ”I’ve always wondered what the species those came from must have looked like, though the existence of hybrids creates interesting possibilities for sure… Like what sorts of hybrids could exist between modern pokémon.”

Evolution can be really weird like that, and that’s the whole reason why creating the serum she swirls in a small beaker is much more complicated than what she’d like. It could work, or it could not. Too many variables.
