Despite what people might believe based on her peppy attitude, Ceri is not one to ignore her problems. An apocalyptic threat looms over them, that much is true. People she deeply cares for like Naomi Sato are being sent to said threat to mine it for unknown resources. And, Ceri herself? Ceri herself has been assigned with aiding with the preparations for the “Meteno mission” when there’s so much she’d rather be doing.

The meteor is constantly in her mind.

”I think calibrating ships to land on a moving chunk of space rock enroute to crush us is a pain.” She responds without missing a beat, beaming at BARNABY FINCH.

There’s a light laugh then, and although it’s something Bee may not notice because her attention quickly returns to the screen on the incubator, the joy does not reach her gaze.

”It better be full of cool, undiscovered alien pokémon to make this worthwhile. I wouldn’t mind an Ultra Beast or two to study, but that’s a stretch.”

Mostly, she thinks she’d rather the world doesn’t end before she finishes her doctorate.

The egg itself has not changed, but the incubator has. Superficially, it’s subtle enough to mostly go unnoticed, but the truth of the matter is that this is exactly where Ceri’s specialisation in biotechnology comes in. A few changes had been made to the incubator over the past week. Most important of all is the MEGA STONE that now lies clearly embedded in it – a constant source of Infinity energy.

”Hey, hey! Yup! Exactly! I’m mostly trying to see what will happen to the egg if I expose it to controlled yet significant amounts of Infinity Energy overtime. I need to adapt a few things, but it’ll only be a minute.” Ceri tells Bee with a bright smile when stepping into the testing chamber.

It’s only a simplified explanation, of course, but she’d rather not get too technical or throw too much jargon at the executive.

”How have you been?” Small talk, really. Her attention is on the incubator and her tablet, not on him.

Lastly, what she had come to find: a shiny Spinarak. It’s at the very top of a tree, barely visible, but unfortunately for (and very fortunately for Ceri), its shiny colouration does a very poor job at hiding it among the tree’s verdant foliage.

Ceri doesn’t particularly care for psychic pokémon, nor for fairies, and some of her despite her choices in Halloween costumes, she also doesn’t care much for witches. But she does like pink things, and she also does know that a lot of people are willing to pay a lot of money for aesthetically-pleasing shinies.

Study of the effects of exposure to EXCESS INFINITY ENERGY on eggs during incubation, with the intent of replicating the circumstances that led to the BIRTH OF ANOMALOUS POKÉMON at the establishment referred to as "THE HATCHERY" during the Infinity Energy surge in early 2022.

After excessive amounts of Infinity Energy caused the previous three eggs to break (view past reports), SUBJECT AT4 has been placed in an incubator among CRYSTABLOOMS, resulting in controlled and constant exposure to the energy they emit. It is intended to continue this process for the entirety of its incubation.

SUBJECT AT4 has also been exposed to SPRINGTIDE STORM. Heat signatures emitted by the egg varied during the process of exposure to the move, soon returning to the expected parameters. Vitals remain normal.

Disappointing as Bee may perhaps find it to be, Ceri doesn’t really expect anything particularly flashy to happen – other than the move itself, that is. What they’re doing is undeniably amazing, and it’s through thermal imaging that she can see how the egg’s heat signature changes when struck by the SPRINGTIDE STORM, yet, to the naked eye, nothing out of the ordinary happens.

The egg incubation period is far from over, after all.

The goal here is to expose it to as much energy as is possible overtime without killing the pokémon within it in the process. For all she knows, something perfectly normal may hatch, but there’s always the possibility that it might be different. She has to try.

Having tested SPRINGTIDE STORM enough times to be more than familiar with its strength and energy output, Ceri had ensured that the incubator would be able to both withstand the attack and protect the egg from it, all while exposing it to its energy just as it had done with the crystablooms.

She doesn’t bother with telling Bee all this, though – mostly because she already bombards him with enough information as is.

As such, the incubator is set down, and stepping away to a safe distance, Ceri inputs a few commands into the tablet she had brought with her.

Internally, she hopes the incubator doesn’t break.

”Yup!” She guides him through the greenhouse, out of it, and then through the corridors of the third floor, and while she does as much, she explains their goal:

”I’ve been experimenting with ways to possibly replicate the results from “the Hatchery”. Hatching abnormal pokémon and so on? I figured they may have done something to the eggs when incubating them so that the pokémon mutate during fetal development, since there’s no record of any pokémon being born with the same abnormalities out of the Hatchery, you know?… This one has been exposed to the Infinity Energy emanated by crystablooms for a while now.”

It’s not the only egg on which she has done this sort of experiment, but there’s no need to tell Bee that much.

By the time Bee arrives with his Ninetales, Ceri finds herself holding her usual tablet. Precise devices laid out all over the greenhouse measure the state of the crystablooms, and it’s on the screen she looks at that all such data is displayed.

”Just in time!” She greets both the executive and his fox with a smile. Naturally, she had made sure to take her strongest allergy medicine today as well – not like it’ll completely stop her from sneezing, but at least it’s something.

In response to his question, she pats the incubator. ”This!”

It doesn’t make for much of an explanation, but she grabs the device (egg and all) and starts walking.

Among the many rooms in the third level of Blackstone Labs – accessible only to those who have reached Tier III clearance in the M.A.G.M.A Division or higher – there happens to be a small greenhouse. Here is where some of the few crystablooms in the division’s possession are kept. Most have been transplanted from the wild, for growing new ones still proves to be a challenge that many scientists continue to attempt to find a solution for.

That is not what Ceri is here for today.

Calmly and carefully, she tends to the flowers, the expertise in her every movement coming from a lifetime spent caring for flowers. It’s not the sort of knowledge she puts to use too often these days, but crystabloom research and experimentation has created a need for such skills of hers.

Nestled among the crystablooms is a small incubator with a single egg. The egg is the reason why she’s here today.

It’s also the reason why she had asked BARNABY FINCH to stop by and to bring with him the Ninetales that Enamorus had blessed for him.

Ceri sneezes out of the blue. She pauses, confused, and with the sudden itchiness of her nose, she sneezes once more. What the fuck?!

She looks around, searching for the culprit, but it's TTX that finds it before she does: a shiny Fennekin napping under a small tree.

”Huh… Not gonna lie, the shiny colours are kinda aesthetic.”

She’s not usually a fan of foxes, mostly due to being so allergic to them. Maybe this is the result of spending too much time with BARNABY FINCH, or maybe she thinks she could sell the Fennekin for a nice price when its colours are so nice. Regardless of the reason, she gives the command:
