Ceri knows Bee isn’t much older than her, yeah, but like… twenty eight is almost thirty, and in her opinion, thirty is old as fuck. ”Six years is a lot, Bee. There’s a reason my Tinder profile says I don’t date people over twenty five.”

Probably not the sort of thing that should be discussed at the labs while working, but it’s not like Ceri has ever cared much about professionalism. She can do her job perfectly and have a nice chat while at it! Multitasking!

And yet, when Bijou appears, she’s distracted by the Ninetales’ presence, giving her a small smile while the thought that she definitely hadn’t taken allergy medicine today crosses her mind. Oh well, surely it can’t be that bad, right?

As has been made abundantly clear to them during the past few weeks: eggs take their time to hatch. Incubation periods can vary between species, and this particular little fella (or lady!) had been taking his or her sweet time.

Ceri’s patience is also running thin, but the one difference between her and Barnaby is that she had expected all of this. It’s not the first egg she has taken care of for an experiment, and it sure as hell won't be the last.

”Ugh, what’s with old men and puns.” Ceri teases, dramatically rolling her eyes and then smirking at Bee, yet after entering a few commands into the incubator’s console, she takes a couple of steps back.

”Sure, though. One last blast can’t hurt. Eggcellent idea.”

Saying it like that almost hurts her.

It’s time.

Or, well, it should be time. It’s not like every single egg always hatches exactly on schedule, even if people may often believe as much. Some take less time than average, some take more, and apparently, despite the excessive amounts of Infinity Energy this one had been exposed to, it’s among the latter group.

However… every measurement and every test indicates that it will hatch soon, and just this morning, it had pipped, so of course Ceri had been ecstatic, done a little excited dance, and texted BARNABY FINCH with a plethora of emojis.

”Hell yeah! Come, come! Look!” She grins when he enters the lab, pointing at the egg in its incubator. It still looks just as it always has, except of course for a tiny crack towards the top of its shell – a miniscule hole made by the pokémon inside.

In the end, humour may just be the salvation of Hoenn. It’s how many of them have learned to deal with things, isn’t it? Just laugh it off and go on about your day as soon as possible.

To Ceri, all of these phenomena that often defy logic are exactly what she likes about the region. They’re part of why she had chosen to pursue science as a career, and it’s the constant challenge that they provide that serves as one of her main motivators when it comes to all of that.

Mind you, she’s also well aware of the damage said phenomena have caused, like the recent destruction of her own region, but at moments like these, things like those are blissfully ignored…

She just focuses on the here and now, watching the swirling petals of Bijou’s SPRINGTIDE STORM

”Nah, I’d definitely blame culture shock.” A smirk. ”Think of it this way… this egg? Experiments like these couldn’t happen anywhere but at Hoenn. It’s an exciting place!”

”Living in Hoenn must fill you with annoyance, then.” She teases, beaming up at the executive with the cheekiest grin ever. It’s the simple truth, isn’t it? Hoenn is a place that constantly surprises them; full of changes that often defy all logic and their notion of reality. Ceri herself enjoys it, but she can see how others would be deeply annoyed by it.

The thing is that she’s not a particularly patient person either.

Were it her choice, the egg would have hatched long ago, but the whole point of this experiment is exposure to Infinity Energy overtime, and so she has no choice but to wait.

Thankfully, at least Bijou acts fast.

SPRINGTIDE STORM is as she has come to know it to be, no huge variables existing. Being that it always comes from the same pokémon, the move’s power is always around the same parameters, but she still monitors it from her tablet just in case. All is as it should be. Hopefully, the egg will hatch soon after this.

As Ceri sees it, there’s no such thing as a waste when it comes to experimenting. Even failure can result in learning and discovery, and honestly, often most of the learning done comes from it. There’s no point in her explaining that to Bee, though, even if he weren’t joking.

”It’s a surprise.” She winks then, stepping away from the egg. There’s nothing spectacular about it, not really, and as easy as it would be to tell him, it also wouldn’t be nearly as fun as this.

”I get you on being busy with preparations, it’s been pretty damn crazy around here. Ready to kick some ass at Pyre? Oh, you can start whenever, by the way.” She looks at Bijou when saying that last part, not Bee himself.

She’s running late, and so it’s literally that she runs; with the cardio and the coordination of one who is young and who has been trained by years upon years of running across campus in order to avoid being late for class. Except, of course, for the fact that Ceri isn’t actually particularly athletic, that her cardio sucks, and that there are only a few things she hates more than running.

She pauses a few metres away from the door to oscar clayton’s workshop. A moment taken to catch her breath, fix her hair, and make sure she doesn’t look like a total mess when first meeting a man who, judging by his many titles (CEO of GMH, Team Rocket Beast, so on and so forth), must also be incredibly smart.

Once this moment is over, she walks in with a smile. There are a myriad of people Ceri has found herself working side-by-side with at Team Rocket’s facilities, many of them being fellow scientists and many of them being people who couldn’t care less about that sort of thing but had been assigned to help the science division.

At this point, she’s not sure exactly what she’d call Oscar, but she’s way too curious.

”Hey hey! Ceri Glynn, you asked to meet me? Sorry if I’m a little late.” She greets him, yet her gaze is immediately drawn towards machinery. Warm eyes scrutinise every inch of the PokéPod, and quietly, a single word leaves her lips after a second. ”Cool.”

”Sometimes I wonder if it’ll hatch at all.” Ceri admits with an exaggerated sigh, giving the incubator a few gentle pats. She doesn’t particularly mind the lack of a greeting: by this point, she and Bee see each other so frequently that it’s almost like seeing one of her coworkers at the lab – except, of course, that the executive is no scientist.

”It’ll hatch, though, no worries. I could have accelerated it with a Pokémon with Flame Body, yeah? Old breeders’ trick and all, but I didn’t want to introduce more factors into the experiment.”

There’s a shrug, once again not bothering with elaborating on her reasoning. Instead, she simply places the incubator down and gets to work, checking parameters and ensuring that everything is up to standard before they can get started.

”How have things been, by the way?”
[break][break]
Small talk is also part of this routine, isn’t it?

The Ninetales' actions, however, are not, and for a moment, Ceri is confused. What does she do? She smiles down at Bijou, also giving her a couple of pats just as she had done with the incubator... except that more hesitantly and covering her hand with her sleeve. You know, allergies and all. Nothing personal.

Turns out that – surprise surprise – eggs actually incubate for a really long time.

Ceri came into this knowing that, of course, and at least this is a light project that she can take care of with mild supervision while dealing with every other task that has been assigned to her, but still… looking after things like these just doesn’t suit her. Too damn delicate.

”Sure wish you would hatch already, little buddy.” She tells the egg when taking it to the testing chamber, incubator in hand. She knows it's very unlikely that the pokémon within can hear her, yet the words are spoken all the same – as if by instinct.

The egg had been kept among crystablooms all this time, with additional infinity energy being provided by her mega stone, but just as before, today they’ll expose it to SPRINGTIDE STORM once more.

When BARNABY FINCH gets here, that is.

Mount Pyre. Ceri isn’t particularly familiar with Bee’s specialisation (beyond having interesting pokémon for her to study and gather samples from, that is), so she can’t help but wonder exactly why he’s going to Mount Pyre of all places. Is he particularly stealthy? Is he going to be there for defence? She had heard Cillian Quinn will be there, which probably means it will be a tough battle.

The Mega Stone belongs to Ceri’s own Toxtricity, something which she would have shared with Bee if he had asked. See, technically, it’s Rocket’s property: ages ago, when she first became a researcher, she requested it for the sake of testing the effects of the potent poison of mega evolved Toxtricity. It only makes sense to use it now, right?

She stands at a safe distance away from the SPRINGTIDE STORM’s range, watching Bee’s Ninetales for a moment before turning her gaze towards the tablet. The move is as potent as ever, but the incubator endures just as she had designed it to do.

”Have they assigned you to one of the three yet?” She asks while the storm of petals rages. She means the missions: Meteno, Littleroot, or Mount Pyre. Most Rockets would be going to one of them. Ceri herself, though? Thankfully, her skillset calls for her duty lying in helping with ground control for the Meteno team. She'd do terribly in a battlefield.
