the way he looks at her has francie startled. she flinches, watching the sudden — was that passion? — move through fernando's features. she can't help the way it makes her smile, because passion's always fun to see from somebody that's usually so poised.[break][break]

"well i mean, that's good then, if it's based off of compatibility with a pokémon." she looks to her lycanroc with a grin and lincoln just wags his tail at her in return. "cause i was gonna use lincoln here for the first run through! i'd use lyonel but he likes to sleep during the day."[break][break]

she pops her booty off of his desk and moves over to lincoln, giving him a few snuggles and kisses, his fur unbearably soft for a rock type. only those pieces of him that are stone would be sharp enough to hurt, and even then they'd have to have energy surrounding them to do any real damage to her calloused skin.[break][break]

because she's used to things being rough. she's accustomed to it, and the challenge of this suit is no different.[break][break]

"i still don't want you to give me one, though. i can buy it...e—uh—eventually." and cue the sheepish grin.

truthfully, he's insistent and she's a pushover. so she lifts her arm and smiles his way, allowing him to work as he sees fit. a protective hand is near the applin, to make sure he doesn't topple off of her lap or anything.[break][break]

"i've heard it said a time or two, yeah. my dad used to say it a lot growing up because i'd always fuss over things that weren't broken yet but looked like they might."[break][break]

great, now she's rambling about family. but she can't stop. there's a swelling inside of her chest that threatens to take over. it's the ache and pain of loss and the worry that she might be losing her mind. even if ever so slowly. much like ...[break][break]

"my mom used to tell me it was careful planning."[break][break]

the tone used is one of longing, like her mother's passed; but she hasn't. it's complicated and she doesn't quite know how to talk about it out loud. since she never has, not to anybody. not FERNANDO SILPH, not BARNABY FINCH. not even to herself, really.[break][break]

"but um," she changes her tone; plasters on her social sunshine smile and looks to him again. "yeah, i mean, you used the phrase right."

"oh ho!" francie starts back the banter with a grin, wiggling her brows as she absolutely slaughters his accent and adds, "he's a clevah boyo!"[break][break]

FERNANDO SILPH's order and Remiel Calcifet's taunt have her leaning into tilly so that there is little to no wind resistence. she tucks and tilly catches up to the roaring moon just in time to enter with Remiel Calcifet. but she barely sees anything before suddenly there's a bell toll so loud she can feel it in her jellies.[break][break]

everything stops. there's nothing but that bell.[break]
her heart beats in rhythm.[break]
the darkness around her begins to burn at the edges.[break]

finally, she's awake. she gasps as she comes to, lurching up. she's on the floor of stadium seating. she's never been here before, that much obvious as she looks around. beneath her is not cement, but something like; it's breathing.[break][break]

"tills?" she turns, looking at the aerodactyl with a soft expression. the aerodactyl had instinctively wrapped around her during whatever transport. she gave the beast a hug before getting up, standing on the bleachers and returning her aerodactyl with haste.[break][break]

she'd need somebody with a bit more mobility within the stadium, so she releases her hisuian arcanine. he gives a sniff and his fur bristles, unfamiliar land causing him to be tense. she mounts him with a hop.[break][break]

"francie myrtle checking in," she glances around as she accesses the coms. "everybody alright?"[break][break]

she doesn't realize she was asleep longer than most, but when she lays eyes on everybody she's beaming. closest to her is priam conrad and FERNANDO SILPH, to which she immediately gawks and points at priam conrad. remembering him from the ultra deep sea adventure.[break][break]

"it's you!!"[break]

excitement riddles her body with a bouncy step. she closes the distance between herself and the utensil needed, picking up the brush and beginning to pull it gently through her coat with shimmering eyes.[break][break]

she could cry. sort of. she felt a knot in her throat, anyway. probably all the excitement.

the sour green applin rats her out, but she doesn't mind. instead, she soaks in what she wants the most by picking up the applin and giving him a snuggle. not enough to make applin sauce, but enough to surely show she really needed the hug.[break][break]

usually when she's feeling down, she finds a friend to hug and cry on. it's gross, and intimate, but that's all she ever really wants. somebody to give her a welcome home hug and not mind that she can, in her most raw state, be incredibly clingy and want to show physical affection much like a lap-dog.[break][break]

but right now, she can't bring herself to do it. she can't bring herself to call BARNABY FINCH and ask how he is. in a way, she wants to give him a pretend alibi in her head and tell herself that the mist and hallucinations mean nothing and she's just being dramatic.[break][break]

so she instead takes remiel's hand and stands, making her way toward wherever he leads. once she sits, she places herschel in her lap. she offers him a tender smile, a little warmth in there. like a cloudy day's sun.[break][break]

"i think you wrapped the bandages fine. they don't bother me, and it feels like it's healing fine."[break][break]

not that she's had them checked by a medical professional or anything.

it's a rhetorical what. one of those times where her brain has to work out what he said a few times to try and find words to express the emotion that completely blindsides her.[break][break]

"ferny," she immediately laughs after her 'what' and then makes a face at him. "you can't just give me a suit, they're expensive."[break][break]

yeah she just gave him custom made mega-cufflinks, but she doubts she'll wear them and if anything they'll end up on the desk or in a drawer or who knows he might forget they exist. this is what she tells herself. because she's horrible to her own kindness, belittles it.[break][break]

"i don't mind buying my own. i just wanted to like..." well now she feels silly, but she wants raw authentic connection in her life now, so she boldly allows herself to be raw.[break][break]

"i wanted to make sure i'm able to handle a suit, and like, compatible with one, before i buy it."[break][break]

her eyes find his as she speaks, honey eyes losing their usual sheen of optimistic sunshine for a more serious does of reality.

"myrtle?" she looks around, makes a show of it. "my name's francie."[break][break]

not that he'll look her way, but she wiggles sheepish brows at him and partners them with a grin equally as wily.[break][break]

instead of handing him the box, she turns her attention to his office and glances around. she then makes her way over to him and his desk, not looking at his screen. reading over people's shoulder is rude... she's curious though and she has to look at the screen to see at least the time to satiate the curiosity that builds.[break][break]

"i wanted to ask you if you have a sygna suit simulator. i've heard real good things, but it's a chunk a change, y'know?"[break][break]

as she speaks, explaining herself, she sets the box down and then opens it for him. within are two cuff links; ones that can, in fact, host megastones. yeah; they're mega-cufflinks my dude.[break][break]

"so i figure, you're like me. you wanna trial things before you buy 'em. of anybody i know, you're the guy who'll have a simulator or like a trial suit or something; or at least know of a place where i can find such a thing."[break][break]

she slides the opened box between him and the computer with a smile.[break][break]

"also, i had these made out of some ore i mined with my sibling."

earlier that morning she'd asked fernando if he had a sort of spare moment that day to appease her questions about a sygna suit. she'd looked into getting one multiple times, but boy were they expensive and super not easy to come by. that being said, she wanted to test it out and see if she could even handle it before she dropped the PD on it.[break][break]

with a happy skip i her step, she approaches the silph co. elevator and gets in. she hits the button for his office and bounces in place on her heels. lincoln walks beside her, who she knows she'll be using to help her get used to the suit.[break][break]

in her hands she holds a small box. it's a gift she'd gotten for him. silly, sure, but she'd thought about him while she was out and about in another region and gotten him something accordingly.[break][break]

though she nearly threw it out twice out of childish spite, she figures nows as good a time as any to give it to him![break][break]

the door gives a ding! to show she's reached the floor and she exits, heading past the office and to his door. she peers in, slowly having opened the door and blinking honey colored yes at him.[break][break]

she's always been unorthodox in her meetings, why would that ever change? lincoln pokes his head out below her and his tail starts wagging in excitement at the sight of fernando.[break][break]

"you're supposed to be off right now, ferny." she scolds as she opens the door more. "not working yourself to death in here, are you?"[break][break]

lincoln trots over to fernando to give him a greeting. nothing physical, just to sit and stare at the man while wagging his tail.

if she hadn't be eyeing him as if to say, 'when has being respectful ever stopped you before?' she wouldn't have caught the way his mouth moved in perfect synchronicity with words she never would have guessed he'd said.[break][break]

moments like that with fernando were few and far between. maybe she would seek him out to ask him about where to look for clues toward regirock, who she was specifically interested in for multiple reasons.[break][break]

for now, though, the fact that he missed her had her biting her lower lip and letting the words ride both on the wind and in her heart. she clutches her hand to her chest and made her way toward the grave again.[break][break]

to say goodbye, and to make a promise.[break][break]

not that she'll be stronger, no. strength is no great feat. but instead that she'll not let his sacrifice go in vain. she will try her damnedest to make the world a better place.

there are several thoughts that try and circle around in her head. all of them consist of her own doubt. not in him or his words but instead in herself and her own worth. that very thing which holds her back so strongly.[break][break]

something about the moment, about his own little confession of not wanting to bury her and preferring she not be there to bury, makes her feel a hint of relief. this shows in how she returns his grip.[break][break]

"you can make do with or without others, yet you prefer i make do alive somewhere else than be here, supporting you, and potentially die doing what makes me happiest?"[break][break]

being with the people she cares about. this has her turning to face him, tugging him a bit to try and get him to look at her.[break][break]

"did it ever cross your mind that maybe me being away from you felt worse than burying louie? or that not being here if you were to be buried hurt worse than being away? that's what i learned, anyway..."[break][break]

and maybe that was the difference between them.[break][break]

"i can't survive all alone, ferny. i tried, and it made me realize that's my worst fear, being alone...which is why it hurt so bad to be here, and feel so alone just because you don't have the courage to accept that you might have to bury me."

not that he realizes this, but the words haunt her. each time she left were for, in fact, selfish reasons. not a once did she leave for any other reason that she felt she needed distance to figure herself out. only to realize, while reflecting with her family, that she was just doing what she always did.[break][break]

hiding.[break][break]

perhaps no legendary had graced her with their presence because she couldn't make a decision. to stay, or to go; or maybe they knew she hated confrontation.[break][break]

a silence falls, but it is only out of respect for his words. reflection. what they mean to her, what decision she'll make. for now, she simply decides she's done being a coward when it came to her ferny.[break][break]

"i'm sorry it took me this long to... um, to see you." her words are soft, like a compliment to the silence and not an attempt to break the solitude that came with it.[break][break]

"for a really long time i had myself convinced i was in love with you." the confession is nothing new. "and really, i think i just envied you. always so put together and strong. even now, the resolve you have, and the way you're so confident in what's happened... i admire it."[break][break]

finally she turns her eyes from the horizon to fernando and braves to take his hand, then returns her gaze to the horizon with a soft sigh.[break][break]

"there will always be a part of me that loves you, ferny. which is why i'm apologizing for being ... well, a coward, and so wishy-washy. for being a disappointment and letting you down. i know you were relying on me, and ... i let you down. i let my feelings get in the way again, instead of using them as a fuel i used them to build up a wall."

it isn't what she expected, this explanation. the beginning even startles her. sets her heart into a rhythm that matches a thousand beats a second. she's entranced and he has her; hook, line, and sinker.[break][break]

but she's dense, he knows this. yet he tries to warn her. that's not what happens, though. instead, she feels this is a raw moment between them and, in fact, she feels... encouraged. emboldened.[break][break]

the startled look in her eye settles into curiosity and then awe. once again he is like a god in her eyes. she doesn't shy away from the way he explains to her what an avatar is. instead, she embraces it fully and finally, her usual smile shows up. even in such a moment, she smiles; it's a smile of pride and acceptance, just for him.[break][break]

she's never smiled at anybody else in such a way before.[break][break]

"i know you're trying to tell me not to become one... but the more you talk about it, and the more you show me, the more i ..." want; to meet legendaries, learn from them, be accepted by one.[break][break]

"if i could, i'd protect the entire world. i know that's pretty much impossible, so i'll settle for protecting the people closest to me. recently, it feels like the only way to do that is to become the same kinda powerful, maybe even the same... kinda evil as everybody else who's tryna come after the peace i care so much about."[break][break]

perhaps that's too selfish to deem her worthy of an avatar.[break][break]

"maybe that's why none of the legendaries have shown themselves to me." her laugh his watery, soft; it's uncharacteristically raw and makes her swallow hard. "pretty selfish to ask them to come help me protect the whole world just because i don't wanna lose anybody i care about, huh?"
