"Aliens," Klaus repeats flatly. Surely Beau could come up with a better excuse for ditching him than aliens. He watches as Beau sits but Klaus instead stands where he is, his weight shifting from foot to foot, picking at his nail polish. To be fair Klaus didn't exactly like the man for his intelligence.

He frowns then when Beau continues to speak, though his expression slowly twists into confusion as the story is told. Klaus's brow furrows, and his nose wrinkles faintly as he pieces together the tale of prisons and giant Pokemon, and Beau barely escaping with his life.

"Like, how many-," he begins before cutting himself off. He flushes angrily at the last statement, his voice only-just below bellowing, "The fuck I was there. What?"

"You know I waited all fucking day for you to like, even call, or text, or anything. And you didn't. And you still didn't call-." Klaus's face reddens with anger and humiliation. "You don't have to lie to me. Just say you didn't want see me, fuck."

"I'm sorry for even fucking bothering you." His voice choked by the end of his tirade, Klaus makes an exasperated motion towards Beau before stalking back towards the front of the apartment to leave.

How stupid could he be, thinking Beau even spared him a moment's thought? Tears already prickle at his eyes as he rubs at one reddened cheek.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

The door opens. The door opens and Klaus steels himself to continue being totally normal, but he jumps visibly when he's met with a face full of Chaos and nearly trips - his momentum propels him against the opposite wall which thankfully saves him from going down.

"Shit," Klaus wheezes softly, his brow furrowed and bewilderment touching his expression. Thankfully, Chaos seems to finally remember Klaus's good deed of feeding him all those months ago and settles, allowing him to finally get a look a Beau.

What could have been an attractive sight is indeed ruined by Beau's arm in a sling. Klaus opens his mouth as if to speak but no sound comes out - instead Beau nearly trips over his own front door and Klaus does his best to stay rooted with his back against the wall and not touch the other man. He'd only somehow make it worse.

"Yeah," he answers, his voice distant and soft as he continues to take in the sight of Beau. Had someone beat him up? Who the fuck could manage to beat Beau up, though? Blinking once, he shakes his head as the offer to enter finally clicks.

"Yeah, sure."

Stepping past Beau and into the apartment, Klaus carefully gives Chaos a pat on the head and then allows himself a quick glance though the area. Klaus harbours no illusions that Beau has spent the last few months pining like he has, but a man can dream.

"What the fuck happened, man?" He asks when he turns back to Beau. Klaus fidgets where he stands, his fingers entwining together until he begins to pick at the nail polish on one index finger.

Klaus was a very normal and chill guy. 100%. Just don't ask like, anyone else to confirm that besides him. So it was totally chill and normal that he spent the next few months glued to his phone, waiting for any sort of message from Beau about missing their not-date.

He also spent several early mornings a week just happening to be in Dewford to see if Beau was home but like, again, totally chill and normal. It wasn't like he was watching from afar like a stalker or some shit.

Yeah.

So it's on a totally chill and normal night - one quite early for Klaus, he hadn't managed to sleep during the day - that found the man standing outside Beau's apartment door looking quickly from his very not replied to phone to the door in front of him.

Lifting a hand to rap on the door, Klaus nearly fumbles his phone before he shoves it back in his pocket and shifts his weight. Looking down, he crosses his arms and prays he's not coming off quite as manic as he is - he totally is - and when the door finally opens it's not desperation in his voice he tells himself that he hears but a very, very polite, "Hi."

"Cheers," Klaus answers flatly. "Sounds like she stayed around the usual amount."

He hopes the rickety chair breaks under Rhys but no such luck. Instead, the sound of a mouse clicking about the Rhys's muttering as to Beau's search history fills the air. That all sounded about right. He's grateful when it seems the other man will leave the computer alone; nothing too embarrassing had shown up after all, though it didn't answer the question as to where the hell Beau was.

But then it happens.

Klaus stands very still, watching over Rhys's shoulder as some slender man on the screen smiles coyly. His face steadily reddens, and a soft squawk of protest dies in his throat as the video continues. Frustratingly, Rhys is right, Klaus did seem like he might be not-Zev's type. Maybe on their next not-date he could just lean over and kiss Beau and then -

God. He needs to get them out of here.

Snapping out of his thoughts, he focuses once more on Rhys as he lies helpfully, "Lighthouse radio. Hear all sorts of stuff on it from the ships. Maybe I got it wrong. Who knows. Let's go, yeah?" He shifts uncomfortably where he stands, hoping this ill-begotten outing comes to an immediate end.

"I mean he might be but they're always saying he's covered in black shit," Klaus snaps. "Last I knew he was here." He winces as the stone strikes him in the chest, a dirty look flashed at Rhys before utter panic sets in at the idea of Beau somehow finding out they were fucking with his computer.

God only knew what the man looked up in his freetime.

But the more he thinks about it, the more desperate Klaus becomes at the idea of trying to find out where Beau went. "Yeah ok, sure," he calls after Rhys.

What's the worst they would see?

Trotting down the hall after Rhys, he slowly sticks his head into the bedroom to take in the sight. This was all like, normal reconnaissance. Yeah. "Did you check under the bed," he asks Rhys snidely, his mouth getting the better of him.

"Come on," Klaus whispers to Chaos, his hands moving to cup the elderly Snubbull's cheeks before he stands and finds several bowls to fill with water. With that, he then collects the trashed bag and does his best to sweep up the kibble into a neat pile - Chaos could tackle that later - and fills another bowl with food to ensure the beast lasts at least another day on his own.

He can hear Rhys somewhere deeper in the apartment and from the sounds of it Beau is well and truly gone for the time being. Anxiety itching at his skin, Klaus checks the refrigerator for any sort of note - not that Beau would be leaving himself notes to do shit - and upon finding nothing huffs softly.

"Where the fuck are you," he mumbles to himself. Lost in his thoughts for a moment, he practically jumps out of his skin when Chaos beings barking anew at Rhys with a high-pitched, "Shit fuck."

"Uh - yeah," he deadpans after a minute, his hand fishing into his pocket to pull out a few polished chunks of onyx. He'd heard something about Zev having black crystals but frankly he knew nothing about the Beast that had been appointed while he was gone.

"He's got these all over him, doesn't he?" asks Klaus as he slips from the kitchen and offers them to Rhys.

"Who the fuck knows," Klaus grunts out while angling the crowbar; he groans softly, pushing his weight forwards until the lock gives up the ghost and the window flies upwards. Barking from what sounds like the kitchen immediately fills the air as Klaus slinks inside and looks around for a light to turn on.

"Stay here a second," he orders Rhys over his shoulder, his movements stiff as he listens pointedly for a few moments. The apartment was silent sans the barking so with a heavy sigh he finds a light switch to flip on, though not before tripping over the furniture, and suggests to Rhys in passing, "Try the bedroom," as he moves into the kitchen.

"Hey buddy," he greets with a low laugh as he takes in the sight of Chaos amidst a hoard of kibble pulled out from a nearby bag. Kneeling down to offer his hand for a sniff, he asks absently, "Where's daddy, huh?" Before pausing at his words and flushing deeply.

Stupid fucking Beau, this was all his fault.

"Right," Klaus murmurs, sinking into himself and his chair. He gives a little shrug and answers in turn, "I deserved it, don't worry."

But then she keeps talking, and he shifts in his seat - while looking decidedly uncomfortable and shifty. "Don't worry about it," comes Klaus's answer, his cheeks decidedly red. "I gotta like, go," he hurriedly adds, unwilling to further discuss the absolute disaster of his non-existent love life. "Sorry for everything."

Not giving Marianne a chance to waylay him, Klaus shifts out of his seat and pays for their drinks before disappearing back into the bar.

It wasn't a date. It was just two dudes going to watch a movie and it was Klaus's turn to make breakfast/dinner for the pair and then Beau Fontaine would go home and they'd maybe do it again. Maybe go out to dinner next time.

What happened instead was Beau never came to the lighthouse and never opened the one text Klaus sent asking if he was still coming. Klaus totally didn't stay glued to his phone all day - not sleeping - and skip work that night as he waited for a reply.

So when he was absently checking one of the Rocket communication boards and someone asked if Zev Harcourt had been spied in the last day or so Klaus couldn't be held responsible when he replied with an emphatic "Yes," and told Rhys where to meet him.

The sun was setting on the firmament where Klaus crouched on the fire escape right outside Beau's apartment. "Hold the flashlight here," he grumbles at Rhys as he wedges a crowbar and leans against it to pop open the locked window.

Klaus blinks once, uncertainty touching his expression as he puzzles over Beau's words. He should leave, right? Like, that was the normal thing to do because he's pretty sure they aren't going to sit around cuddling despite the appeal.

His thoughts are abruptly interrupted, however, as he finds himself hauled into Beau's arms. An undignified noise sounds from the back of Klaus's throat before he parses what's happened, and a smile actually touches his lips; his hand lifts and he lightly pats Beau's shoulder without pulling away.

As he's released his smile widens, and he mumbles a quiet, "You're welcome," in return. "We should do this again sometime," he offers. At the lighthouse. Where the location is more isolated. Definitely more remote. Just the two of them. You could even watch the TV comfortably from Klaus's bed.

Yeah.

Shrugging deeper into his hoodie, and unsure what the fuck to do with his hands, Klaus ruffles Beau's hair as he stands and slinks out to return back to Lilycove.

Klaus's mouth hitches into an uncertain, if fond, smile at Beau's assertion. Not really he thinks to himself, his arm curling tighter around Beau for a brief moment. It's not for too much longer that the movie runs, its gory course finally at an end.

Uncertain how to proceed, Klaus finally mumbles a quiet, "I should probably like, go yeah?" His free hand fidgets with the hem of his hoodie before he seems to remember something; hand shoving into the pocket, he pulls out a green friend ball and displays it before Beau's face.

"I got you this," he chokes out, his face flaring a bright scarlet. "When I was in Kalos. I went to Galar too. I - I got you this." His arm still around Beau's shoulder, he jerkily withdraws it as he moves to hold the pokeball with both hands out to Beau.

Inside is a small Applin.
